People fail to realize this is most probably going to be a relatively long closed beta. There is still a lot of time left.

Did they market this at all? I feel like most of the hype comes from the community itself.

If the rate that was stated earlier is true, and this is not even accounting new people that will make accounts, it will take over a year (~290 days) to even come close to everyone. Most of us don't know how far along the game is (considering we're not in beta obviously). Is it actually going to last that long? If they don't change the rate of acceptance, it's really not a very good chance at all.

they will invite way more ppl when they have fixed stuff.
It's logical, 1500 ppl find more than internal, so they fix it.
After that, they can invite 10k and fix new stuff etc.
You don't have to wait a year, open beta will come in a few month.

Yeah they did very little marketing at all and weren't expecting it to get so popular. Your best chance is probably to just wait for that email, as before open beta starts they'll have thousands of people in closed beta, which may include you by then.
I'm just thinking that if this is the hype their small closed beta gets, imagine what open beta will be like ;0

I posted on their forums with TL's beta key giveaways, the roulette and scavenge hunts included. Hopefully they take it into account the frustration feeling we have in the air. Nothing worse then thinking you have the worst luck out there, following the game should get you closer to it, even though "chance" is fair, it just doesn't feel right.

About the sheer numbers and people getting mad over how invites go out. They posted in their forums that this is a closed beta because they want to be able to get gameplay and other feedback directly from other player. The game is not ready for mass play yet as they just cannot handle getting feedback from so many people. They are already releasing more keys than they planned on.
