It was a much closer game than the numbers tell. Newcastle defence was compeletely abysmal in the first half & they could've made 4-5 goals in the second half to just 1 more Wigan chance.
Anyone think Cisse might have a transfer to an even bigger team in the summer ? I know it's kinda early as he has a 5 year contract but it's clear he is a phenomenal striker & ,eeing that 50 million have been spent on, .. I don't know, .....Torres, certain big teams might want to catch him while he is still <25M € .
I guess it depends on how much Newcastle gets to spend in the summer, they have a good team but I think they need a wider pool of talent to maintain such high league finishes and to really break into the Big Four.

Well, look at Nasri and cesc both out of the champions and 1 is out of the league hunt. RVP will sign with us again. If we sign top players like Verthogen from ajax and m'vila or Javi Martinez. Hopefully, we sign Belhanda what talent that guy is. We already signed podolski according to the daily mail. We make some good deals like these in summer we will become a contender on all fronts next year.
I still don't see a strong enough squad. Yeah, we've been unlucky with injuries (as usual), but the quality, and most importantly the depth just isn't there. And the players we're looking to sign over the summer are not that good either. We just can't financially compete with a host of other clubs, and Arsene's repeated attempts to unearth talent has gone wayward over the past 5~7 years.
As for Van Persie, him delaying the talks over his contract until after the Euros is a bad sign for us. It's clear he wants to wait & see if he can further impress potential suitors at the tournament.

Stop being a pessimist, ugh with wilshere and arteta coming back from injury and new signings we get this summer. RVP will surely sign for us. Where would he go not city, Madrid wants aguero, only destintation is barca and with all crap happening in barca i doubt it. His family loves London and he has both of his children in the arsenal program. He probably just wants to finish this season off and see who we sign before he commits to a new contract. This has been a pretty remarkable season with abysmal start and the talks about arsenal is a mid table team blablalba and look where we are now 3rd in the league. Captain VanTastic is here to stay!

Well by the look of things I doubt we'll be keeping this squad anyway, I think Arsenal are going to shake things up dramatically for next season and if they go through with some of these big transfers it'll definitely be a huge boost for the team.
On top of that hopefully Wilshere will be fit for the season and I'd like to see Ox start more regularly. Obviously it would be nice to see RVP stick around to see things out too, which I think he will.
Liverpool fans are fucked up bunch of people...Singing Kennys name like he has changed them around, got them playing amazingly and are good to watch. They are piss poor in the league and have been since the end of Rafas reign, they need to get rid of Kenny, he has spent way to much and produced so little, they have got to 2 finals winning one compeition vs Cardiff and now face Chelsea in the FA cup. But they are battling to stay in the top half of the league table let alone for 4th which a club like Liverpool should be, very confusing football club. Scored on the break justs, 0-1 Liverpool Shocking defending by Noriwch, 0-2

On this note, is the Podolski to Arsenal transfer official? There have been rumours back in the beginning of march, but I think I haven't seen anything official yet. Also, should be funny to see Podolski try to speak english as his german is already funny as hell.

Like demba ba right? O wait he is forgotten now. Wait another year, if he is still banging them in then maybe. There have been so many strikers that start well then just fade back into obscurity.

Psh, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ramsey, Gervinho, Walcott...what a nice set of youngsters to build your team around.

Well The Cisse thing is silly because every striker who goes on a good run isnt phenomenal.. so I agree with that. You dont become worth alot of money to big clubs just because people made stupid buys for Torres and the donkey in the past.
The Demba Ba assesment isnt quite fair either, though. Alot of people do go out of form and play poorly but in his case its not all his fault.
Since Cisse signed Ba has moved to playing on the flank, taking on a more defensive role aswell, he tracks back aaalott more. Collects the ball deeper and Newcastle has better playmakers than him in Cabaye and Ben Arfa who get way more touches. T Obviously he wont get to be in the goal scoring positions as much. The best chance he can get is coming in late to the far post. The way Newcastle setup, if your team is playing well your guy upfront will get alot of goals. Carrol, Ba, Cisse all benefited from the system at some point. In general Cisse gets to play where Ba played and hes enjoyed the same success. Ba fading had less to do with a dip in form. Hes sacrificed that for the team, which is a big deal. Alot of it was because he went to the Cup of nations and was a bit tired so they rested him a bit and then Cisse got hot so Pardew was like "well ok". Guess hes our central striker now. Ba isnt exactly comfortable playing either, he looks alot more lethargic and at times a bit frustrated the games Ive seen but I dont see him complaining at all which is commendable.

Not really. Ramsey hasn't been the same player since he came back from his leg break. He's very loose in possession, tends to be hesitant in front of the goal, and his passing often gets sloppy as the match goes on. Maybe he just needs more time to get back on the right track, but I'm not holding my breath (see what happened to Eduardo). Ox definitely looks a promising talent, but he has expressed his desire to play in central midfield, and I'm not sure how that'll turn out. I think he should focus more on being an out-and-out winger and work on his ability to go past players and deliver a good ball. We need good wingers more than CMs right now. Gervinho, I'm not really sure about. He's a decent player, but I still haven't seen anything particularaly noteworthy from him. And we all know Walcott is a very mixed bag. Blindly fast, yeah, and he can finish well, but is very inconsistent. He is also very poor at taking on defenders and going past them, and is very injury prone (which fits Arsenal perfectly lol).
Perhaps I am being a pessimist, but I'm just calling it as I see it.

Wow you are fiercely pessimistic. From where I'm standing you have nothing to be worried about. Arsenal have had a cracking season and all of your players will be getting better. Losing RVP if it happens will be bad but the amount of money you'll get should allow you (if the owners don't jew it up) to at least get some sort of worthwhile replacement. Wenger has some form in picking good strikers! Ox is fucking amazing, he could play CB and still make an amazing contribution. Gerinvho is young so just wait for him to get some maturity. Same goes for all of those players. Even Walcott has been showing that with some maturity he can play with the team on his back. Remember people having doubts that RVP would be able to come out of Henry's shadow.

Yeah, 8 years of nothing will do that to a person.
And after 8 years of 'rebuilding', we're no close to ANY trophy than we were back than. If anything, we've become less competitive over the years. Perhaps I'm being a realist and the rest of you don't really care about Arsenal or are particularly optimistic.

Yea I have to agree with those sentiments a fair bit. Perhaps not as gloomy as it sounds but really its all promise and no substance for a while now. The only great thing about it has been the consistency in being up there but never being a real challenge which is a funny position to be in,
Most of the dissenting comments sound either fan-boyish or somewhat patronizing. "O look we/you got x y z coming, surely the future is bright." This is not championship winning mentality. How many people actually gave 2 shits about Danny Welbeck last season ? There was no hype and he managed to force a healthy Hernandez out for a bit this season. No one outside the maybe the club and its supporters thought he was Man U material at Sunderland. Less hype, more PL performance. Then were getting somewhere. Fingers crossed. Otherwise its all in the pipeline with nothing to run your car on.
Arsenal have had an amazing season, considering all their injuries. If they don't sell off all the talent, they will win the PL within the next 3 years at least once, in my opinion. They could do with a little sprucing up in defence, and in midfield Song is good but he's no viera. Aside from that, the team has pretty much all the materials necessary for completely destroying the opposition, as they've shown. And they are young which is clearly a factor. If you look at Chelsea, our attempt to youngify the squad was mostly a horrific failure, and Di Matteo has only achieved success by bringing back the old guard. I don't see how you can look at the performance this season and think that Arsenal are on the way down, they are clearly battering the living shit out of good opponents when they work together and they will only get more predictably dominant as they get older. I love the fact that people are ruling out Walcott despite the fact he's only 22 and Henry arrived at Arsenal from Juventus (as a pretty average winger with a good turn of pace) when he was oh yeah what age oh yeah that's right 22 as well. Oxlade CHamberlain is looking like he could be one of the top 5 stars of the prem and he will be a shining star in the England team as well. And him coming on the inside works fine, he is amazing anywhere, also he won't get in the way of walcott and gervinho.
To be honest I'm really envious of Arsenal's current possibilities. I think they finally have got everything in place to return to the heights of 2003/4
