One move could be the navy, blocking the path over the bosporus and then bandwagon when they are in a major war. Only way to revoke a core that I know of is the Cultural Unity province decision. AI can and will sometimes use this. But it seems like a long stretch
You can revoke cores when Sueing for Peace.

So today I finally got my patch fixed and started playing with another TLer (fush). Our checksums are BJLT, and we are on patch 5.1.
So Fush decided to take England as his country, and I chose Muscovy. We then played for a short period of time before my game crashed. (Probably like 1/2 a year)
WITH THE TERRIBLY BORING AND UNEVENTFUL STORY ASIDE. Any other TLers want to play EU3 with us during the weekend? I'm not exactly sure how the system works but it appears we can also save games (which makes sense anyway) This is a really fun game to play, but it's incredibly time consuming. However, we CAN save and play on another day.
It would be really fun to have other people play as large superpowers and duke it out with one another, while dealing with the AI on the side. However, it probably would be even MORE fun to play as a coalition of small countries and duke it out with, say, FRANCE.
But yeah, anyone else want to play online? (Hamachi is the most convenient method)
Edit: use this server :D

^ it was awesome. not too sure still how to chat IN game but i suppose we can always alt-tab out into hamachi to chat. i like the idea of small countries, but it'll be fun either way.
think the thing with the checksum is that you have to get the non-beta 5.1 patch - which was released in july i believe.
+ Show Spoiler +http://www.gamefront.com/files/20605378/Europa_Universalis_3__Divine_Wind_v5_1_Patch
apparently there's an issue with this game and hamachi causing it to crash. we're testing it out with just normal IP connections.

we planned a saturday playing session
it will be at 8 pm CEST that is GMT +2
it should be a good time for europeans and americans. So if you are interested in some multiplayer see you tomorrow
After reading here that the right checksumm for 5.1 is BJLT we will play that patch.

I am in for that! Checksum is BJLT and all! :p
I want Hansa if possible!

We should properly set some rules so we don't get any misunderstandings. Been reading Paradox Entertainments EU3 multi-player forum and it seems that most follow these:
Settings: Difficulty: Normal AI Aggressiveness: Normal Lucky Nations: Off Spread of Sea Provinces: 100 Years Spread of Land Provinces: 100 Years
General Rules 1) Questions about game exploits and game breaking action have to be handled decision of the GM. The resulting decision is final. 2) No sale of provinces to nations who can’t see said provinces and can’t see the sellers capital. 3) Wrecking your own nation just because you lost is forbidden. 4) Disrespectful treating of other players is forbidden. 5) It is a players duty to find a sub to fill in for his absence, the GM holds no responsibility to this. 6) Bargains between players will not be enforced by the GM. 7) A form of communication that runs outside of EU3 is required. This could be MSN, Skype, some other IM program that another player has, or connection to the TS server we have. Being able to quickly communicate outside of the game is vital.
War & Peace Rules 1) War goals are free and based on player karma. 2) When one side surrenders it can pause the game to reach a fast agreement (2 min max)
Absence Rules 1) Players absent to the game, without notifying the GM or any other player will be attackable by other players at a maximum of 2 wars in total against them. Peace demands cannot exceed 3 provinces and 40% of warscore. 2) Nations which are not subbed during the first session of player absence will be invulnerable to attacks from other players. If the nation was involved in a PvP war from the session before it will not be invulnerable. 3) A player with internet instability will also be invulnerable. This also joins in under "unable to join trough external effect". The GM however does need to be aware of this. 4) If a player drops, he will be set to be braindead by default. AI control can be requested by the player if he does not wish to be braindead. 5) Rehost has to take place immediately after crash.
Rehosting 1) It is a players right to receive 2 rehosts per session after communication has be done with the crashed player. 2) Host saves the game and GM tells everyone to restart their game. 3) Player Join the new game and save is downloaded directly in game.
Reply if you agree/disagree with these rules or if you want to join !

I'll join you guys in this, but I'm not sure what gamebreaking exploits are.
Just to clarify, I think 8:00 pm CEST is 11 am PST. (I think)

that does not mean 100 years for cores. Cores are always given after 50 years
the 100 years relates to how quickly you can see provinces in Terra incognita that other nations found.
so for example portugal finds the carribean but you play poland, you will have to wait 100 years until you can see the carribean, this makes it more fair for countries that want to specialize on conquering the new world.
concerning the other rules I find them a bit over extensive. I trust the TL community that much that i would say that noone is going to exploit anything
if players have to leave early it is their problem I wont set rules for something like that.
I think playing a 4 hour session should be fine for any hardened star craft nerd. If aafter those 4 hours players want to continue we can do that but for now 4 hours is what I think is best.

IDK if this has been linked before, but this is a VERY good and super funny read: EU3 as Scotland

Holy shit, this game pisses me off sometimes. I hate when I'm doing good (as in successful wars against Karamon, the Knights, and Achaea as Byzantium within the first few years) and then the game is like HURR DURR TRIPOLI (that nation on northwest Africa) DECLARES WAR ON YOU, HAVE FUN FIGHTING A 15 STACK WITH 6000 TOTAL TROOPS
But god I can't stop playing

If people who want to join tomorrow could say in here, what country they want it would make things easier

Hmm I'm not sure which country to pick...
I dont want to pick someone too strong, cause then the game would not be fun... I dont want to pick someone too weak, cause the game would not be fun....
I suppose I'll have to settle for the medium-difficulty nations.
I think ill go with.... Teutonic Knights?
Maybe Muscovy though

we can do that tomorrow ingame no point rushing this now.
but I would say it is best if we take the bigger countries
Ottomans France Castile Poland/Lithunia Denmark/Sweden Austria Bohemia
and others in that direction. Feel free to take small countries but i dont wanna hear any whining if you get owned by a big country

Hi. I have a problem. I want to stream this game for a friend, who is interested in it. i have a stream set up with Adobe Flash Encoder 2.5 and VHScrCap, which works fine with Starcraft. However, when i start EU3, it just ignores it. I basically just see my Desktop and the Mouse of EU on it. If anyone has an idea what the problem is, and how to solve it, i would be thankful.

I actually have this same problem, except it happens when I printscreen.
Whenever I press printscreen, all it prints out is the desktop and stuff. Lol.
Edit: However I recommend you try playing the game in windowed mode. Might be able to stream then. http://www.paradoxian.org/eu3wiki/Window_mode

You can form EU. You have to own the capitals of like 12 major countries. Frances, Spains, Italys, Englands, Swedens, Denmarks, Norways, Austrias, Germanys, Hungary's, Greeces, and maybe a couple others.

I would like Castille or England if they aren't already taken, if they are I'll figure out another country tomorrow.
Does anyone know what the time is going to be EST btw? 2:00 PM right?
