Took me 7 Hours to complete it, mostly because i got stuck on some levels because i was thinking far too complicated (hell, i got stuck for 5 minutes on the broken bridge where you just had to press jump on the blue goo because i thought the distance would be too far, so i tried to jump on the blue goo on the wall to bounce over, etc.), so i think 5 Hours is possible.

Oh yea, I was stuck on that bridge also... actually tried to jump over it twice and failed... then I tried to get some air before going over, but that lost me too much momentum...

I know it's fiction, but aren't any of you surprised with size of the facility? Big underground space with moving rooms. The cost of constructing this would be astronomical, this puts Black Mesa facility into shame, even thought Black Mesa actually won Aperture over contracts, it just doesn't fit well with the lore.

I found the over the top size of the facility to add to the humor. The first game establishes that the Aperture Science facility is huge, but this one really one ups the first. The way the facility gets older as you go further down was pretty cool and with how massive the place is, the first thing that came to mind was Dexter's Lab.

While I thought so too at first I don't think the timeline works out for that to be true. GLaDOS was based on a woman who was working for Aperture back in the sixties. Chell was in grade school when GLaDOS took over the facility in the following millenium, (one of the potato battery science projects is by a girl named Chell). Caroline/GLaDOS would have been too old at that point to be her mother as she would be in her 50s at least.

+ Show Spoiler +
not sure what kind of calculations you are making, but im pretty sure glados was indeed chell's mother and Cave Johnson the father.

+ Show Spoiler +

My calculations are fine. The first era of retro tests date to 1968. Caroline/GLaDOS was already working at Aperture. Let's say she is 18, we'll be generous. That would mean she would was born about 1950.

Now GLaDOS took over Aperture some time in the 2000s and locked people getting in or out. That actually happened on Aperture's take your daughter to work day and early in Portal 2 you can see the science experiments of the school girls. If you look carefully one of the projects is by Chell, and the handwriting suggests she is about the age 6-7.

Assuming GLaDOS took over as early as possible (2000) that would mean Chell was born around 1994. Caroline would have been 44. Late but not impossible. And that's with the most generous of calculations. Caroline was likely older than that and GLaDOS's takeover was later in the decade. Which would push Caroline into her 50s when Chell was born.

Also the fact Chell was even at take your daughter to work day means she has a dad working at aperture. And Cave Johnson died back in the eighties sue to the inhalation of poisonous moon rocks.

I just bought the game! So excited to play it! Anyone want to do a co-op game with me? My steam name should be: AKidNamedOmni

Edit: Just played like 2 hours worth of Portal. Such a good game! Loved every bit of it so far! Def worth the $50~

Loved it, took me 8 hours and I don't for 1 sec. believe those who claim that it took them 4-5 hours.
Great voices, humor and puzzles.

Clearly everyone is lying. Much like cake.

The Steam timer is actually wrong.

Can't remember where I read it but some people took 10+ hours to complete Portal 2, but the steam timer stated only about 4-5 hours was played.

This is true. My fallout 3 says i spent 4 hours on the game, when in reality it was closer to 100

Apparently there is also a bug which makes people miss a chunk of the game.

Just finished this last night(single player)....and, sooooo good. An instant favorite.

My only beef is I want some really ludicrous chambers now. 90% of them were WAAYYY too easy, as in, instant solve easy, and that's even some of the later ones. I seriously was only stumped on two chambers, and then only for about 15 minutes max.

I loved the whole game. I came into it with very low expectations, so maybe that's the reason that I was so ecstatic with how it turned out. I thought the added mechanics would just clutter up a game that I thought was so beautiful because of its simplicity, but they were done tastefully. Single player length seemed fine, for me at least. Difficulty seemed decent; though the only chamber I got stuck for a while was Chapter 18 Chamber 11, I think. The whole game was a fun experience; hopefully the user generated content will be sweet in a month.

Yeah, was on the easier side compared to Portal 1. But the game in general definitely flowed better. They should be adding more levels in free DLC. Like they've done with all their other multiplayer based games.

Its not clear in my opinion, but there is a strong indication that Portal takes place during or around the events of HL2 due to GLaDOS in the first game commenting that even she doesn't know what's going on outside there. Of course that's weak at best, but we can think something along those lines.

We do know that the takeover was on Take your Daughter to work day, but one thing people miss is we don't know how long passed between that and when Chell was woken up for Portal 1. It's entirely possible that the take-over happened early/mid 90s which would help match the timelines up for the Caroline/Cave thing to have happened. Chell clearly aged at least 10-15 years before she was woken up since she became a subject at the age of 6. Though I think the very first dates in the old test chambers were actually 1958. Still it's at least plausible from the timelines. Even more concrete we can see in the portrait of her she seems to be about mid 30s in 1968 which would make her 45ish if she had her child in the mid eighties (right around when Cave died) which would make Chell 6-10 years old by the 90s which would be perfect for when she was captured and sets it up nicely to have the capture occur right around when HL1 occurs and have her in her 20s by the time Portal 1 takes place.

The important thing of it to me is that it casts a different light on the ending a little bit, and actually makes the ending more solid. When I first played it I thought GLaDOS' motivation for grabbing you was just good will from her Caroline parts, but now you can see the euphoria and motivations she had for saving you were because you are her daughter. Then that part is immediately deleted and you're sent on your way.

Though it's kind of a shame that Portal 2 seems to happen so far after HL2 that I doubt the games will have that much in the way of interesting crossover stuff anymore.

Started playing at 6:30 Atlantic standard Tuesday, took a half hour "break" at 9:15, finished at 11:45.

So, about 4.5 hours for me, first playthrough. I was not rushing at all, I was always looking at everything and checking stuff out, couple puzzles had me confused for for a bit. I could probably do it in about 3.5-4 on a second run.

Edit: I should actually check my achievement times to verify this
So, five-card stud, nothing wild... and the sky's the limit
