Bought FF III on the Humble store, liking the game so far. Hope IV and VIII go on sale on steam. FF8 is 50% off on Humble Store now for a bit over a day and a half. I can't imagine it'll get any cheaper than that during the Steam Sale. But... why would anyone want to play Final Fantasy 8? Because it's good.
no, just no

8 was alright. I like it more than 7 at least. But that's a discussion for another time.
The Steam Auction stuff is all back up. All the auctions were reset although it still seems like a fool's errand to try and actually win one. The bids are lower than before, but still in the tens of thousands. I turned some junk in to gems and crafted some boosters and sold the cards. I figured it's the simplest way to get something out of the backgrounds/emoticons, although it may not be the best.

There's a hundred auctions for each game on the list, and once they get started they'll be done in 45 minute intervals.
Should be easy to get some good deals, just not on the major games.

Same thing happened to me. Looks like it just converted to the auction badge and didn't give any additional experience.

oh well, I cleaned up my inventory a few weeks ago by selling almost all the cards and stuff so no way I can bid on games without paying lots of money to buy gems first. Does anyone know what the conversion ratio of money to gems is at the moment? My question is if it's worth participating in the first place

It varies a lot, I'll check three of my things in inventory.
0,05€ for a card worth 17 Gems -> 340 gems / € 0,09€ for a card worth 3 Gems -> 33 gems / € 0,05€ for a background worth 80 gems -> 1 600 gems / €
Generally speaking cards seem bad and backgrounds/emotes tend to be better.
Translating a game I want into € using above ratio. 3600 gems for it, using best ratio above it means 1,5€ in backgrounds or 2,99€ in store.
EDIT, prices for items have already gone up. So best current ratio I know about is 1000 gems / €.

I made all my cards and stuff into gems and got ~800 gems.
Then i checked for bids and the games go at minimum 5 digit bids wtf.
Some of my cards were worth 12 gems, now if i have to make a booster pack for that same game it costs 450 gems...
What im supposed to do with that few gems lol ?

Civ 5's better overall, and you could get it with all its Xpensions for the same price. It's not a bad game, but I got tired of it quickly, I found it repetitive and never was able past the first few tech Levels as the game got to a point where I lost intrest. Factions have a much bigger impacts than Civ (some trait go as far as preventing you from declaring wars or having more than 1 cities) and there's a RPG element to it. You can upgrade your heroes and units and have them lvl up, and there's a turn by turn battle system where you can micro a bit to get a more favorable outcome. Unfortunately battles are slow can be repetitive. The AI's not the brightest either.

you place a max bid. the current max bid on that item will go up by 100 until only one guy has a max bid above it.
Starting monday, the highest bidder willl get the item, have his gems and bid removed every 45 mins.

Will be interesting to see if I get anything. Placed myself near #50 on a few games I wanted. I might need to consolidate them once things start moving I guess.
