In deus ex 1 it was a gimmick that required a lot of exploiting game machanics to pull off, but it got a lot of attention since deus ex became the shooter where you dont need to kill anybody. So the devs picked that up for human revolution, butit seems so forced, especially with the call of duty-like xp popups for a kill/knockout.
I personally abandoned my ghost/nonlethal playtrough because it basically made the game a puzzle platformer. I rather play it as a stealthy shooter, its too bad i feel punished for it.
There is a greater EXP emphasis on non-lethal combat but, for me, it didn't really present much of a problem because a) I love treating stealth games as non-violent puzzlers to begin with b) Adam, or at least the way I played him, came across as a depressed and reluctant fighter rather than somebody who was actively out for blood.
I haven't gone for a second playthrough yet but I know you earn less experience playing a lethal playstyle. Perhaps a lethal playstyle is a bit easier so they tried to balance the choices out by giving the non-lethal player greater rewards?
It's not a perfect game by any means, and takes a few bad cues from other modern games, but I found it so wonderfully engaging and atmospheric that the flaws were easy to overlook.

It'll probably show up in sales again on christmas, doubt if it'll be less than the €9.99 though. CIv IV took a while before it went under that magical €9.99 price.

There was a deal from a website I dont remember (it's gone by now) where you got Civ 5 GotY + G&K together for 12€. There was also a deal on amazon (Germany dont know the others) where you could get Civ 5 GotY for 5€. With G&K it was 12.50 / 13 (dont remember exactly).
Is it worth it? Probably. But you can probably get it cheaper as well.
O man, the DRM on Arkham City is annoying. I bought it on steam. That is already DRM. There is no need for 2 other layers of fucking DRM on your game. Makes me wish i had just pirated it instead of dealing with this bullcrap. First i need to activate it on some securom website, and put some stupid code from there back into the game. Then I need to log into G4WL, which of course does annoying shit, and has me activate the game AGAIN with their code. Also it of course does not simply let me do that, because it tells me that someone else has been using my G4WL account and makes me go through some retarded process to change my password. I highly doubt that. It was probably just me playing some of those retarded double DRM games on my laptop. And even if someone has, i don't care in the slightest. I only have that account because some games that i buy on steam force me to have a G4WL account just to play them.
I don't get why people think it is a smart idea to have people fight through 3 layers of DRM to play a game they bought. If my first impression, before even starting the game makes me want puke that is probably not a good thing.
I know that this is probably not the best thread for this, but since i bought it on sale yesterday, i thought i might as well post this here.
The fact that it decided that it wants to be in German for no apparent reason, and does not have a language option ANYWHERE is annoying as well. Why do i have to google that and change something in some weird ini file they hid as best as they could?
This game is doing the best it can to piss me off before i even start it. I am probably spoiled from playing to many indie games who don't want to annoy everyone with absurd amounts of DRM and who only exist in english and thus don't force me to deal with horrible german translations based on my IP, i just don't understand how anyone could have thought that any of this would be a good idea.
Arkham City was such a bitch for me to run. I ended up not playing it until a year after I bought it because GFWL kept crashing on opening menu and none of the posted solutions worked. A year later, I went back to it and eventually got it to work somehow. Great game, but all the setup you have to go through is god awful.
I can see how the G4wl can be annoying for some people, but I already have an xbox live account, so it's never been an issue for me with those games. Just input code and sign in with my xbox account and I'm good to go. It's never really been a hassle for me.
I just don't get why one game has to have 3 different sets of DRM at the same time. Given, after dealing with all that bullshit its a pretty good game, but i still don't see why they could not just NOT put all that annoying crap onto it. Those things are annoying even if they work like they are supposed to do, and somehow for me they have a tendency to do random stuff to annoy me even further, like forcing me to reset my password, verifying that the account is actually mine, etc..., and i could surely live without that. And if a game on steam, that is already enough DRM. No need to additionally force me to register on some strange securom-site AND on g4wl.
Sure, it's not the biggest deal, i just hate this "create account here, register your stuff here, create another account, create account to create your account, we surely won't spam your email address hard or sell your information to shady ad companies" stuff in general. Funny note, the email address i use to register for all those random accounts has now accumulated over 10000 spam emails.
