Points to take note: 1. Indie games sometimes come in packs. Last winter and a few times they have put out a few indie titles into a pack with a theme. Usually 5 for the price of one indie. Sometimes you might not want anything else in the pack, but still a better deal if you already might want at least one more thing from the pack then just the individual title. 2. These major game sales crop back up seasonally, with summer and winter being the biggest due to holidays, vacations. If you miss something this season you will still most likely see it next season with a similar discount. 3. Always wait until the last day of the sale to purchase anything that didn't crop up on the Today's Deal, so you maximize savings for games you really desire. This is probably common sense but I've seen quite a bit of complain threads on Steam because of this. Only buy what you want to finish off, as I've found I've installed quite the lot of them but realized later on that I didn't want to play some of them after the sales. As for today's deals, I only have experience with Recettear, a bit of DoW 2, and a bit of Oblivion. Recettear is a JRPG mixed with selling aspect. It has a Japanese tone you might expect out of an anime (little girl in debt, lead by fairy to help her gather stuff and sell stuff led by adventurers), and its quite addicting at first as you try to meet the paydays. Didn't know I got past my bedtime until too late. DoW 2 is a strategy game with no base-building in single players and a bit of it in multiplayer. I didn't complete it, but its main focus is around controlling and upgrading 4 heroes out of 6 in single player resisting a zerglike invasion across different planets. Oblivion is another game I have not yet managed to complete. But I'm sure all of you know it well enough by now to judge by yourself whether its something you want to play or not. It does have a sizable amount of mods, including naughty ones, so if you like that kind of stuff Oblivion has more to offer than meets the eye.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4577-WUSK-4280 + Show Spoiler + How do I get prizes? Various games have special Steam Summer Camp Achievements. Each one earns you a Prize Ticket. You can redeem your Prize Tickets for prizes displayed in the Summer Camp Prize Booth. Prize tickets must be redeemed during the Steam Summer Camp Sale. You can keep track of your Achievements and Tickets on your Steam Profile page. How and when do I recieve my prizes? Because the prizes are DLC (downloadable content), you must own the base game to use the prize. In most cases DLC will only function for games registered or purchased through Steam. Note that downloadable content will not be listed as a separate entry in your Steam games list. When redeemed, this content will be automatically downloaded and incorporated into the game. What if I change my mind about the prize I want? Sorry--Once you’ve redeemed your Tickets for a certain prize, the prize cannot be returned and the Tickets cannot be refunded. Be sure! What if I selected a prize for a game I don’t own? Will it work if I buy the game later? Yes, the prize will work if you purchase the game at a later date. However, prizes will not show up in your game list. If you want to see your prizes (even for games you don’t own), you can see them in your “Account Details” view, which is accessible from the Steam Store. Can I still complete Achievements for previous days and earn Tickets? Yes. A list of previous day’s Achievements can be found here. They can be completed through the last day of the Steam Summer Camp Sale. How do I qualify for the Grand Prize? 100 lucky campers will get the top 10 games on their Steam Wishlist. First, create and organize your Wishlist. For every Prize Ticket you earn, you will be entered into the Grand Prize Giveaway. We'll draw the winners at the conclusion of the Summer Camp Sale. Does using Tickets for prizes mean that I have less entries for the Grand Prize? No. You are entered into the Grand Prize Giveaway for each Steam Summer Camp Achievement you earn. Spending your Tickets does not change this. What can I do with my Tickets after the Summer Camp Sale is over? Nothing. They’ll disappear. So use them while you can. Where can I view the complete rules? Complete rules are here. Edit: here, http://store.steampowered.com/eula/summersale2011_199

Patches rose the level cap to 69 I think. But let me warn you the game gets VERY repetitive and boring in singleplayer about 10-15 hours in, the real meat is co-op. Sadly, there are no dedicated servers and the connectivity is almost as horrendous as the lag most people experience. Just a friendly heads up for your $7.50

Any recommendations for games that aren't on the daily deal, but are cheap enough regardless? Have you thought about Syberia? It looks like in the same veins of The Longest Journey and Dreamfall. I was thinking about picking those oldies through GOG.com, since I've heard that they try to make sure the game is compatible with the latest versions of Window. But they don't have a sale right now. The problem with steam is sometimes your S.O.L. if it doesn't work and you will have to figure out yourself how to make it work. Steam doesn't guarantee compatibility for very old games.

Seeing as you just bought a load of games anyway: make the list from other posts but do not buy them until the last day of the summer sale. That way you prevent buying a game 'cheaper' now when it becomes 'dirt cheap' a day or 2 later. I today nearly had that happen as I was going to buy The Witcher 2, thankfully a friend reminded me of the big July sales. Seeing as it is currently on -33% I think I owe him a beer.
