I'm lucky in that the newbie camp I started at has some carrots growing, so I was able to harvest a couple of seeds today and plant my own plants. I'd like to find wheat though so that I can plant that and work on Beehives eventually.

I need a total newbies guide to farming. How do you come across seeds for crops if you don't have a field of them? I've been playing for about a month, and I've never come across crops except in an already human-planted field. This lets you find Wild Windsown Weeds, which can be picked like any other forage-able item. You then hang them on a drying rack for a few hours (8 I think, not 100% sure), and when they're dried, you should have seeds to plant! You can use an herbalist table instead of a drying rack, and its faster, but wheat seeds, hops, and hemp seeds can dry even further if they're on an herbalist table. If they're left too long, they change into something else, wheat seeds become germinated wheat seeds for instance. Once they change, they can't be planted. Because of this, I dont recommend using herbalist tables for gathering seeds, unless you're going to be really careful about it.

No wonder the guy that got me into the game said to get exploration at 10.. I thought it was just an arbitrary figure to help things along. Mine is 7 or 8 at the moment so not far to go.

A couple more things, 10 is the minimum value needed to find WWWs, which also means you find very few of them. As your exploration gets higher, you find things much more often. There are also other cool items that can only be found at even higher exploration values. For instance, you won't start finding gray clay nodes until your exploration is around 20. Another thing you should think about is raising your survival skill. The quality of foraged items is usually affected by your survival skill. If you have a high survival skill, the quality of a foraged item is equal to the quality of the soil. If your survival skill is lower than the quality of the soil, the quality of the item is the average of your skill and the soil's quality, which will always be lower than just the soil quality alone.

Actually, it's not just Exploration skill that determines whether or not you see stuff.... it's your Exploration * Perception value. You can start seeing WWWs at [Exploration * Perception] > 80: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Wild_Windsown_Weed Have you found out about FEPs? http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/FEP You eat foods that give FEP in order to level up the list of stats on the left side of the character sheet (obviously, as you've figured out, the ones on the right side are leveled up using learning points). So you need to find food that gives you +Perception FEPs (they're orange on the bar). A good example is carrots. Make your poo orange!!! And keep raising your Exploration value, too. Soon you'll be able to see all kinds of things. Stinging nettles, WWWs, blueberries.... later on, yo'ull be able to see more stuff like forageable curiosities (example: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Tangled_Bramble ) and really important herbs (like http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Rustroot , which you need to do Prospecting). So if you're just starting out, try to find some Perception food to eat. The wiki lists some example foods for each stat: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Perception#Perception Carrots grow really fast, so if you get your hands on just 1 carrot and stuff it in the ground, soon you'll have a huge field (assuming you're more Nature-y than Industry-y). You'll also want Intelligence, which you can get by eating blueberries. More int will mean you have more attention, which means you can study more things at once, which'll get you more learning points.

Right, I know about this stuff, though I thought the Per*Exp requirement for WWW was higher. Also, since the starting value for perception is 10, I figured the easiest thing for him to do would be to raise his exploration skill. Many things are determined by a formula like Attribute*Skill. For instance the quality of some kinds of clothing is influenced by Dexterity*Sewing. Intelligence is definitely very important though as well, because once you start finding the better curiosities, they also require more attention.

We gotta set up an alliance! It would be hard to unite everybody into ONE village because I think we have varying playstyles. But we should help each other and trade. ...as long as we're sort of close to each other.
