I changed from SKYPE to Ventrilo because the majority of us already have it set up from SC2/WoW/etc. It is way easier than calling in SKYPE imo. Now everyone just has to join 1 server location instead of adding the whole team to friends.

I am actually going to change my mind and make a softcore char. I havent played much since the addition of rune words etc so I want to get way more comfortable with the game before I jump right into permanent death .

Basically my current plan for reset day is for everyone in this thread to have SKYPE installed and a working microphone preferably.
If for some reason you dont want to, I will be posting my account name in this thread. Hopefully we can get a full 8 man roster on day 1 and just beat the shit out of this ladder.
Since were not going hardcore anymore, I'd like to have a wide variety of the classes. Hardcore makes the decision harder as no one really takes risky builds but in SC, having 6 sorcs and 2 hammerdins isn't the best bet haha.
Im very excited guys! I just finished running a brand new sorc through a1-a5 on normal. Going to try and tackle NM/Hell before Tuesday to get a bigger feel for things.

I am going ORB sorc full MF for first char so if you go hammerdin we are a great duo already. Having said that, play whatever you feel like is the most fun. You can always MF on your hammerdin.

@Priph, i wouldn't mind playing Classic, although there is just plain out more people on xpac that i don't think it is worth it. Plus, you see a lot more variety in LoD play, as everyone isn't a sorc(teleport), barb(Battle Orders/Command/shout as well as best CC), or hammerdin because the rest of the classes have become more viable because of xpac changes.

As someone who played D2 Classic for two years straight religously, it pretty much boils down to BvB barb (bo, shout, WW, weapon mastery, offensive gear focus), Blizz/orb sorc, Meteor sorc, and a hammerdin. Zon's focused around lite fury arn't too bad, and bone necros play well in nightmare, but other than that you are pretty much just gimping yourself.
In general though, Hammerdins have the best non-tele movement (charge+vigor), the best survivability (ala redemption+holyshield) and the most damage (Concentration+Hammers) so aside from a Sorc/barb you get kicked out of diablo runs if there are good dins who want to play instead as a zon/necro/barb with bad BO/sorc with latency.
That said, <3 D2 Classic to no end.

I don't want to play classic the same reason you want me too! I know that there will be a fair number of people for the first week or so. However, me and you both know that in a month tops, the classic servers will be empty aside from three or four groups playing in private games. Literally, any wanting to roll another character, or socialize is futile... basically, give it a couple weeks and you are playing by yourself! If i wanted to play by myself, i would just play single player. Even if i am wrong, and the East server still has a following, the later grind of classic laddering revolves around three skills, and three skills only: BO, Teleport, and Hammers.
I understand your disdain for LoD, i used to think it was stupid myself. Hell, i still do think that many runewords are stupidly powerful and pretty much control the game (not to mention trivialize rare drops and take away the system in classic where everyone literally has much different armor), but personally i would rather it was gear that did it than just one class in general. I'd argue that it is easily possible for all classes to solo hell, it is just that the Hammerdin is just so much better than every other class without the nerf that LoD gives Blessed Hammers. Hell, i have cleared hell with all classes PERSONALLY, but that doesn't mean that they are all just as optimal as a good Din.
Coming from an experienced D2 player having had several top five ladder characters over the last five or six years, i think all classes have things to bring to the table. For example, i think Barbs have the best crowd control in the game with spells like Howl, Taunt, War Cry, not to mention the best buffs in the game hands down in Battle orders/command and shout. The Amazon has equally good utility with things like slow missles, Decoy, and Valkyrie. You have already talked about the kind of fun that can be had with a decent necromancer, but the thing is they just are not anywhere near as good.
As much as i don't like some of the changes in LoD (Runewords and charms come to mind...) it has a ton of features that are just necessary once you have played with them... like the expanded stash, better hirelings, jewels, class specific gear, and alternate weapons setups. And, an important part for me having played D2 for a damn long time, it is just different. I don't know all the ins and outs of LoD like i do classic, but i do know that in the one season i participated in the LoD ladder i had a ton of fun with the new act and gear as well as the increased amount of players and plain out viability of every class. The current Nightmare/Hell were designed for LoD characters to clear, and therefor it simply much more balanced endgame than classic is. Period.
TL;DR: I want to play with people, and i am interested in exploring new possible builds with LoD skill changes and gear. So, at this time i will not be playing classic with you Priph.

Btw..all your assumptions about how you can only use certain builds and only THREE skills are used and all that bullshit is just a flat out lie. You just play with people that are no fun. Its not about being the most uber or doing the max damage possible in the game like hammers its about playing builds that are fun to run through the game with and supplying them from a magic finding character. Anyways, i can't wait to make my Spearazon [shes going to be a Fendazon~!] to start with, then im going to make a Fishymancer Necro, After that probably a Pole-Arm Barb. Yeah if I remember correctly, I found ViperMagi on Andy an mask on meph.
nm meph is pretty good to get some decent gears so you can run hell without dying much.

shawster, jump in vent anytime. There is usually someone in there whether they have a mic or not that can teach you how to play.
Basically the idea is to get to Hell Difficulty as fast as possible and do Baal runs untill level 90+.
