So Judicator, when Dark Ascension is finally released and the cage is put into decks and sideboards, do you think siding out snapcasters will be the best way to combat the card as a Control player? I mean you dont really have that much access to artifact removal, or run that much artifact removal.

I couldn't care less about Cage unless I am in Flare which isn't a deck, but they have access to white. I don't think people realize that turn 1 Cage = 1 less spell I have to worry about interacting with. I don't need Snapcaster as a control player and playing it like such is miserable. I think LSV said it best when he was talking about Cage vs. Dredge and Leyline/Spellbomb vs. Dredge, Dredge still gets to advance the game when Cage is out, but Dredge cannot advance the game with Leyline or Spellbomb out. The same case applies here. Reaching for White isn't that hard in either case.

The set is out now on WotC's Site. The are, as Orpheos mentioned, is the absolute tits.

EDIT: The cards of the set feel "slow?" I guess that's my initial thought.

No kidding. You can't draft like a super aggro deck anymore unless you happen to get a few rares from DA then the absolute nuts in the Innistrad packs. Everything below rare seems overcosted by at least 1-2 mana for it to be useful even in the current limited, however since it's not restricted to any one color/combo, it's likely that it will slow the format as a whole rather than break it.

I'm more a limited player myself. So the weakness (at least, I think it's pretty weak,) doesn't bother me too much. It's nice to see that red's gotten a bit stronger. Also, I like Tower Geist. I think it would have been nice if they just gave him Undying and made him a rare.

did UW Spirits just get real? The phantasmal image interaction with the Captain isn't as strong as it is with Lord of the Unreal but it is still strong, plus Moorland haunt is still there....and Midnight Haunting and Geist. Plus the addition of the 1 drop white spirit that taps creatures seems extremely viable as a new tempo deck.

I dont see that lord coming into play much and they're not playing plains on top of being 3 mana. As for limited, the board slowed down by a considerable degree, except I dont think for the better.

After seeing the rest of the set I`m glad I didn`t order a booster box. It looks like most cards are crap or okay. They did a good job with the mythics though in my opinion. Cards with effects too weird to be anything but mythic, especially Helvault.

I was all ready to rebuild the ooze-grimgrin deck featuring the new lich until I reread the text. "When you cast that card this turn, Havengul Lich gains all activated abilities of that card until end of turn." - I thought he got the abilities when you paid the [1]. Would it have been too broken in other formats to have it work the way I wanted, pay [1] get the abilities, then you can cast it if you choose?
I can already see the ending

Its going to show up in legacy in stoneblade decks. 1 Equip cost and once you connect you get a 13/13? That 7 casting cost is an optical illusion. It really costs 1W and can't be countered.

There's no room for it in Bant Stoneblade, plus it offers no protection/board state even if it connects. The guys doesn't flat just end the game with advantage like Jitte and Batterskull. Plus if it ever gets stuck in your hand, you WONT ever cast it. It won't be in legacy.

Man I feel like zombies is so close to being a good deck. It just needs another 2 and 1 drop but I think it just comes up short currently. If only they had made the UB mythic zombie good instead of shitty grimgrin.

My friend was looking at Elbrus, but we realized that it's not really any faster than other equipment out there. It's a single turn faster, assuming they have no guys to chump with. With t2 stoneforge, t3 play equip elbrus, t4 swing for 2, t5 swing for 14, t6 kill, vs t2 stoneforge, t3 batterskull which hits for 5/5/5/5 kill by turn 7, with lifelink and isn't hosed by a single STP, or isn''t beaten by t2 dark confidant/pridemage/grizzly bears, and doesn't lifelink.

Vault of the archangel is insanely good. I was playtesting it with a friend, and in his b/w token deck, its just insane.
