Prices have been inflated but wow. Carroll for that much? Carroll, half a season in the PL and injured, rated at 13 mil more than Suarez, a proven top-class goalscorer and World Cup semi-finalist. Huh. Bent's price looks more and more sane. Also interesting looking at that list of most expensive transfers - big spendings at the start of the millenium, then people paused for ten years, then Ronaldo:/ Remember when Shearer was the most expensive signing in the world? Good times.

Chelsea are going all out to try and move back to the top of the PL too, replacing aging players with ridiculously overpriced ones. If they'd actually spent money wisely they'd have been able to develop young talent instead of just buying it from elsewhere and hoping it fits into their system. More managers would do well to pay attention to what Wenger has done over the years - yes Arsenal haven't won trophies. He's also been able to build a brand spanking new stadium (all paid off), make a profit (how many managers have done that?), built a team of youth with some new players and still been able to stay in the top four (poor Liverpool). Let's just hope he keeps his talent :D

yea. Torres to chelsea really sucks but carroll for 35 mil is even worst imo. With that kinda money, they could have gotten charlie adam + 2 more decent players that could strengthen their team. they need better players in the middle of the park. a creative player. i would pay 35 for javier pastore over andy carroll anyday.

Good but not great. Pav is inconsistent and greedy, Crouch is...well he's good in the air, that's about all you can say for the man, and Defoe is good but has recently come back from a fairly long term injury and has yet to start scoring goals in the league. It's long been accepted at the Lane that we need one real quality power striker at the front. It says a lot that our top two scorers by far this year are Gareth Bale, a winger, and Van der Vaart, an attacking midfielder.

There were rumours of 5 big time strikers that Redknapp was bidding for, it seems nothing has materialised.

Yeah I'd agree Spurs need a new golascorer - I think Bendtner is scoring more than the Spurs strikers, and he isn't what I would label a top striker.

I totally buy the story that Ashley made Carroll hand in a transfer request so Ashley can look better. He's probably not reinvesting a single cent from that 35mil back to the club.

Pfft the prices for current players seems a bit daft, the two teams at the top of the table at the moment are the two big names teams that have spent the least, clearly investing in youth/ stealing 16/17 year olds from international clubs is the way forward.

While I agree that is the case with most players these days. Torres spent six seasons at Athletico Madrid without champions league football, he loved that club and it was the reason he left. Liverpool don't have champions league football this season and likely won't next season. Torres didn't leave Athletico to not be at a club that isn't contending in everything.

carroll been great this season and he's a 22 year old brit. as a newcastle fan I'm not too happy about this.. I just don't see how that money is gonna be spent on getting someone equally good whom feels connected to the club and whom is that young.

honestly I think liverpool made a great deal if you look at the transfer window in its entirety - carroll + suarez is gonna score more goals than torres+babel or whatever other striker they could field.
chelsea also spending money to try to be title contenders in both CL and PL.

but yes he's obviously overprized and smart teams that plan ahead don't squander money in january because players cost twice as much as in july. but torres was also sold for way more than what is warranted - he's 26 so not a talent anymore, and apart from two seasons in liverpool where he scored 18 in 22 and 24 in 32 games, he's hardly ever gone above 0.5 goals per game.. 82 goals in 214 games for AM, 65 goals in 102 games for liverpool, 25 goals in 82 games for spain. he's obviously good and a lot of the goals he does score are masterpieces, but I think him being sold for 50 million pounds is just as outrageous as carroll's fee. and I think carroll+suarez is gonna be one dynamite combination - if liverpool had also gotten charlie adam I'd say they'd have a top 3 offense in PL after this window.

and i don't think he gave 1 foul for arsenal when everton have been doing professional fouls left and right all game long... wtf is up with this shit.

yeah saha's goal was bullshit. how the fuck can professional referees make those kind of errors. arsenal have played pretty dirty though.
