LOL. Then Inzaghi is the best striker ever? He is the record holder for goals in european competitions in clubs. Please. Klose is a good player at best. Just to speak about current strikers, Eto'o, Rooney, C. Ronaldo, Messi, Milito and Drogba are all way better for him in terms of contribuition to the team. To judge a striker only for goals is silly.

And I don't agree with the list above. But discussing that is just fruitless, comparing 17 different kind of offensive players. Ah well, goals really do speak for themselves, so "good player at best" is just wrong. That's enough for me.

On another forum, we got 16 people together and each picked an all-time team NFL draft style, including six subs, and Klose was undrafted. Number of goals =/= skill, especially in an era with a ton of meaningless friendlies and lots of games against awful countries where you can run up the score. Just looking through his international goals on wiki and the quality of opposition is lolbad. If we pretend Muller, Rummenigge, Klinsmann, Voller, Seeler etc never existed, he might have a shot at being the best German striker ever.

Now he is average at best. If you ask me, he really sucks when playing for Munich and shouldn't play. For the national team he seems to be okay, but just because he makes some lucky goals doesn't mean he is anywhere near a world class striker. In my opinion Löw should start giving other strikers a real chance to play.

The only one I can think of is Helmes, but he needs to get his form back after the injury.

No goals this season, 3 goals last season, and 10 goals the two seasons before that. And he plays for the most dominant team in Germany. How do you call that if not average? And why is Kuranyi worse? Kießling not good enough last season? Cacau sucked as well, right? Klose is good with the head and he runs alot. Apart from that he is horrible and nowhere near as good as other really good strikers both in the Bundesliga and elsewhere.

DFB should pay a compensation fee to Bayern because they give Klose the opportunity to train inbetween his matches for Germany. Now he is very good for the national team and that's it. On the club level, which is the most important thing for a football player, he is mediocre at best. His first seasons for Bayern were ok, because he made few assists and scored something like 10 goals, and that were his best seasons in the last years...

You do not become a great player when you play up to 7 good games every 4 years. But due to the rarity of World Cups and due to the bigger fanbase you will be remembered if you win(and only then), that's why players care about it. Every 4 years. No player gives a fuck about World Cups at the moment, and they won't the next 3,5 years. You become a great player when you prove your worth week to week at the highest level in football, which means the big leagues and Champions League(CL is qualitywise the hardest cup to win by far). That's where 95% of your career happens, that's where you earn your money, that's where you want to shine when you want to be recognized as a great player. That's where players like Xavi, Messi or C.Ronaldo earned their status. Xavi now confirmed the status he has for several years by winning a WC, he didn't attain it there. Klose fails at club level right now, and you can see it even in this thread - he is not recognized as a great player, only because he played a few good World Cups.

Oh yeah, Maradonna, Pele, Zidane all become big by winning CL. I totally forgot that! Hell, tons of players say they'd trade their CL title for a WC title.
