Note: Mondragon vs Sen will be happening at the exact time we're going live as well. But we will be casting for hours after the TSL2 match is over tomorrow, so I implore you guys to switch over once SC is done .
A special Quake Live broadcast and a Street Fighter legend come to Live On Three this weekend, with hosts Marcus "djWHEAT" Graham & Rod "Slasher" Breslau broadcasting finals day coverage of the Silent Gamers Cup. The online event is being held to help raise awareness of the league, which will help serve the needs of those in the deaf and hard of hearing community. North America's top duelers Shane "rapha" Hendrixson, Tim "DaHanG" Fogarty, Tom "griffin" Wall, Chance Lacina are all participating, including the appearance of the legendary John "ZeRo4" Hill. All the action starts at 2 PM EST with the pre-game show starting at 1:30 PM EST with predictions and interviews. We will have player interviews over the course of the event as well as the winner at the end.
See the schedule here: http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1837853
At the conclusion of the event, which we have put roughly at 6:30 PM EST, Street Fighter legend Alex Valle will be coming on to talk about a new fighting tournament series he is a part of that is launching called the SoCal Level|Up Tournament series. The debut event will is set to take place next weekend, February 27th, at Dave & Busters at The Block at Orange. There will be a 64-man tournament in Street Fighter 4 and Tekken 6, featuring the west coast's top players and a bonus $1,000 for each overall winner. Level|Up COO Jimmy "ShinJN" Nguyen and media specialist AJ "PotatoHead" Papa will be joining the call as well to talk about the release and concept of this project, the first event next weekend, and what we might see in the future, including the release of Super Street Fighter 4 in the near future.
Other news topics we will touch on
- Starcraft 2 Beta is out! Will discuss our thoughts so far and those of the hardcore Starcraft community - Major League Gaming has launched the site for their Combine event series, as well as announced the dates and locations for their first four events, which will be held in Nashville (Mar 26-28), Chicago (May 14-16), Denver (Jul 23-25) and Washington DC (Oct15-17). - The Electronic Sports League has announced a $170,000 prize purse for their Global Finals at CeBIT next month. It has also been noted that the ESL has removed the Intel logo from the German portion of its website, and has said that changes will be coming with the combined power of two partners. Could Intel no longer be affiliated with ESL?
Tune in at 1:30 PM EST for all the action starting with the Silent Gamers Quake Live Cup, and 6 PM EST for the Level|Up fighting game tournament series.

3 overtimes ... pretty insane for only the 2nd competitive quake match i've seen casted like this.
|
It's fun. I aways liked Quake and it's cool to see it in a totaly diffrent prespective.
|
I don't understand why it's a featured stream on teamliquid.net
Shouldn't they feature every gaming stream from SF4 to WoW then if they want to post up quake streams on the front page.
Sorry but Djwheat/slasher and their whole show has never really covered SC much, or accurately. I don't see why now that SC2 is coming out and it actually is gonna be $$$ attached all the sudden they get featured/promoted on teamliquid.net. I thought this was a SC site, not a site for some people to advertise their podcast which is 99% not SC related.

Damn these guys are playing really fast.. and shooting with great accuracy.

that would be great if they had more streams for other games. great idea!
i think having pro caster streams posted as featured streams can do nothing but help the e-sports community in general. theres no reason tl should be just some starcraft only clique. teamliquid.net represents more then just starcraft gaming. it represents esports as a whole and should embrace all forms of it. just take a look at all the HUGE threads that focus on other games and their communities. dont be such a hater...if you dont like the stream dont watch it.

Exciting! Last second forcing an overtime, winning it and going to game 5 of the second bo5!
|
Best Bo5s I have seen in quite some time.
|
I've never watched any Quake before and only played the game in any form for a few minutes but this was really great. I quickly understood all the lingo and it was pretty easy to follow the action, so really great casting by yourself and djwheat. That 0 seconds left rail shot to put it in overtime was ridiculous awesome.

You're gonna hate it when the TSL2 winner comes on the show next week. May as well not tune in.
Thanks for everyone for tuning in! Details about next week's show soon.

Nah was just wondering why a stream on Quake games would be featured on teamliquid.net. It just didnt make any sense, no one comes here to watch quake, the SC2 streams get more viewers in general than your show. No one comes on teamliquid and says "Lets check those streams maybe some quake or random gaming talk is on". It would be like if sherdog.com (mma site) just randomly had Day 9 Daily on the front page. I have nothing againt your shows it just really isnt in general sc or teamliquid.net related.
I'm sure though you guys will bandwagon jump right on SC2 along with every other "esports" person and company and completely mismanage/misrepresent it. I've seen your fighting game coverage and ive heard DJwheat casting SC games.. (or basically just handling transitions and filler). We have way better and knowledgable casters/commentators/interviewers in the community.

They're not even really welcome in the Quake community. They're trying to branch out and get a few followers everywhere since they're not popular at all in any single place. ESR would be happy if you took them off of our hands. =(

Wow are you guys serious -_-
Wheat, Slasher and Scoots have done a great job. For crying out loud it's just a damn podcast. If you don't like it don't watch it. They have never taken advantage of any community up until this day and I've followed them around in all of them pretty much and every time they do something like shout-cast a match or do interviews they deliver so why is the punk from ESR whining? ESR is a terrible, terrible site to begin with. The community is one of the worst around and only gets surpassed by GotFrag in stupidity levels.
Jumping on the SC2 band-wagon... Please, oh god, please don't let this turn out like the SRK deal. I'm pretty sure it won't considering that TL head-admins are way smarter than those of SRK but still if people start crying every time someone new tries to get involved with SC2 this is going to bring down the level of awesomeness of TL by a lot.
Expect stupid questions and noob users in the upcoming months and flocks of them once SC2 finally hits. That's how the internet works and the price you have to pay for having a big community based around a game.
And why is Lo3 a featured stream? Why not? After all they have done several interviews with SC personalities and let me remind you that Scoots is part of EG and EG has a SC squad, and a pretty good one at that too. So no, they are not jumping on the SC2 band-wagon because they have been in the SC band-wagon for quite some time now.
The post is not even in the General Forums. People advertise freaking Chess streams in the S&G Forums so why not Quake?
If you ask me I would appreciate if God took you two idiots of OUR hands >.<
Also, as everyone has already posted: Pretty crazy matches, and I loved the Valle piece. I follow him on twitter and I was hesitant to start digging around his new Level|Up project but now I really wish him luck and hope it gets big. It's nice to see that he has the right idea and that the FGC is backing him on this. He's a legend and like he said no matter what Valle does people are going to follow him.
On another note the epicness of the Valentine-Day Break-Up Show cannot be put into words. I followed GGL for a long time when you and Carmac where a part of it and even back then I was always dumbfounded by the HHGL and all the other crazy stuff. To be honest at first I thought that those widgets were adverts and stuff until they posted actual news about 'em lol :p Sad to see them go down (kinda) like that. But after all they were offering $10,000 prize pots for WarHawk, Army of Two and Cobat Aces 6, EACH so I mean... This was bound to happen sooner or later.
Looking forward to the Mondragon interview :D *fingers-crossed*

This is a totally unfair statement. 1st off. There's money in SC1? If we were so fucking motivated by money, why wouldn't we have jumped on this bandwagon. I think many people here will tell you although I never got into SC as much as others, I've always been a big supporter of it. SC2 is very similar to SF4, with it's release, there will be alot of new players. And I think it's important for the growth of pro-gaming as a whole to help those individuals out.
We have always given a healthy nod to SC, and I want to personally thank Kennigit for inviting us to be a stream on TL, and those who have supported us. We only hope we can do MORE for the StarCraft community on shows like Live On Three... it's always been our intention of exposing people to EVERY aspect of pro-gaming... and not be a one stop shop for a single game. Sure our background is mostly in Quake, CS, etc... but are you going to push away every person who comes here that gets excited for the upcoming game? Or are you going to embrace them and make the SC community even bigger?

At the same time, wheat and slasher have been letting people know about the TSL who normally wouldn't hear about it in their own communities. We are just some nerds scratching each other's backs. If you think he's trying to "cash in" then you clearly have no idea about wheat, or his history. He's basically the only person in the entire E-Sports industry that id support doing this for. If you really find it that offensive, i suppose you can just not click it .

I started in the quake scene and migrated to SC once quake 3 died down. Well i have been following djwheat for like a decade now and he's an awesome guy. There is no way that guy is money motivated, Djwheat has been an awesome contributer to the esports community. What's wrong in trying to cover sc2? Yeah he may not be the most experienced, he started covering Quake 3, but after some coverage for blizzard he went more into SC. You have to remember that this is GOOD for the SC community. Many people of different gaming scenes watch his show obviously promoting SC will benefit TL.
I personally enjoyed the link to the stream, I haven't watched a good quake game in a long time. It brought back great memories. And like others said, if you don't like don't watch it. The TL community isn't just consisted of SC puritists, the come from all different backgrounds. People like me actually enjoy a convienient link to his show. It's not like there are news posts about other games.

Are you serious?? Djwheat has been there since the dawn of Q3.... back in the CPL days all the way to now. Casting a bazillion matches and being in top clans like 519. My friend Pangu used to play on negative influence during that CTF era and djwheat was in some of his teams, though not ranked up there, he was definately a bolster to the community, I remember seeing him and was like...wow that guy is a celebrity and he's on the same team as pan? What the hell are you saying he's not welcome in the quake community.
|
Ah, Slasher and Wheat, looks like this stuff never escapes you
|
How can you hate them? These guys are doing a very impressive job of spreading the e-sports word in the western world for quite some time now and are expanding in to the SC market..
I'm very happy TL and djWHEAT & co. have finally come to start co-operating with eachother more, for the better future of e-sports and all things related.
|
lol the SC community and fighting games are way different
Even teamliquid.net makes fun of ansadi/all the hokey people trying to get into "esports" for SC2. the fact is that teamliquid.net can cover it far better, and have much better podcasts/commentators/speakers. I was just upset that now that the site is more active than ever, there was a featured stream with Quake 3 at the top of the list.
Anyway now that his Stream has [misc] on it, I don't really have a problem with it so carry on.
I remember a few days ago I clicked on it.. and was listening to it for a bit and it was just people like talking about random gaming crap like consoles and reviews. Gave it like 10 min then I realized it had nothing to do with starcraft and wasn't going to anytime soon.
|
You're right guys, this is a Starcraft site, we totally don't play other games or have interest in any other games or have our longest thread in something totally not Starcraft related.
People always feel and act like [insert not Starcraft 1/2 game here] will somehow ruin SC/BW/SC2 and/or TL.net which is inherently flawed (say thank you to the admins/forum staff). Has it ever crossed people's minds that TL.net is it's own community (independent of the games) and that's what makes it special after so many years? At this point I don't even immediately think of SC/BW in regards TL and I suspect that is case for many others as well.
|
Sick! Q3 is/was one of the best competitive games ever made! Fatality fighting! lol....

much love for djwheat and the quake 3 scene. think it's great to have his streams featured

That's because there's nothing to explain. Ask any upstanding Quake veteran and they'll tell you Vedic is an idiot. Vedic tries to make everything that comes out of his mouth seem like it has confidence and truth behind it. But really he just spins his own trolling reality of how he "THINKS" things are and then speaks them as if it was the Word of God.
Personally I think he just doesn't like me, as he's always gone out of his way to be a prick. I understand tho, everyone cries their own way.
I would gladly put my name and reputation to the test in that community and many other communities Vedic, because I've done nothing but try to help and promote them all.
PS and thanks to all the "Skaters" out there
