I don't really know why peole here ask if they should buy Game X. Looking up some Videos on YouTube will give you more info about if its worth it for you.

I got the Gold Version. You recommend Brave New World?

Best 10 bucks you'll ever spend on an expansion/dlc.

You definitely want the gold edition for sure, because it will come with all the minor DLC that will hinder you from playing multiplayer if you don't have them.

It's really great if you think about it Wait, this is a site dedicated to video games? Damn. I thought this was a site for people to complain about anything?
Anyway, I just bought this to upgrade mine to gold and for the expansion. Excited to play for a bit after work.

Got Brave New World. I really like this game so far. Spent 2 hours on it without realizing it. ^_^
Also, TL to me is the best site on the Internet. Hell I think i come here more for other crap, then I do for Starcraft.

Civilization tends to do that. "Hmm, it's 6 pm, I think I can manage a short game, what the fuck -- midnight?!".

Yeah that's just when I notice it, I mean, I obviously keep going after that, because fuck Alexander.

Have played at least a hundred hours of base game/gold version, but only just grabbed BNW a few days ago after having a Civ 5 break. All I have to say is that it is without a doubt one of the best expansions that has ever been introduced to a game. The sheer increase in quality is astounding. Massive number of new civs, infinitely better diplo and culture victory conditions and the late game is far more interesting than it was.
One thing though: Alexander is a god damn powerhouse now. His ability was already strong, now it grants him pretty much free reign to enact/repeal whatever policies he damn well pleases in the congress. And he WILL win a diplomatic victory if you let the game go on long enough, the only way to stop him is to get another victory type faster, or just outright kill him. Strongest Civ right now imo (which isn't a bad thing, just an observation).

Hey I haven't played Civ V since like the first month it came out because it was so buggy. I hear a lot of good things about the expansions though.
There's a ton of DLC content on Steam now though and I'm not sure what is crucial to improving the gameplay.
All I have currently is the vanilla Civ V game on steam. Do I just need Gods & Kings expansion or would I get more from just buying the Gold Edition?
|
There is already another expansion named "Brave New World". You will want it.
I can't explain how they managed to do this, but there's always something somewhat interesting to look out for and manage in the later rounds in BNW. The game stays interesting from start to finish.
Gods and Kings did not feel like that, got repetitive in the later rounds from what I remember.
I don't think the Gold edition has Brave New World in it.
|
The gold edition includes Gods & Kings and the upgrade to Gold is cheaper than buying Gods & Kings standalone for whatever reason. Wait until the next Steam sale this month where you can grab the upgrade 75% off.
|
Edit: Most of what I said already got ninja'd.
To be honest, Civ goes on sale so often, you might as well wait a week or two before buying anything. There's no way it won't be 75% off before Christmas.

I'd grab Gold (contains Gods and Kings) and Brave new world at a discount.
