Oh and should I open a separate thread if all I'm interested in talking about is this? Cos 12.3 doesn't need much background knowledge of the game and you all are mostly talking about the music, which is awesome still. XD
I play 12.3 too. I first mained Remilia, then got bored and played Iku, then got bored from "EZMODO" Iku (j.2A is too strong IMO), and I'm actually trying to main Alice.
Dunno if we'll make another thread, depends on how many players there are. :D Nice battles on your channel btw.
Sup, I am one of the many Touhou fans that never played the game but I desperately want to. There are so many titles and I am curious which game in the series I should start on.
@ Shiragaku, You prefer the shooters or the fighters? Game mechanics change slightly per shooters so each can be considered somewhat new. Imperishable Night is the easiest I think, or Mountain of Faith, simply cos of their mechanics.
@ Maggeus, Thanks Iku's j2a is easy to read. Thing about her is that she's one sided, if you let your opponent pressure you too much you're doomed. She has few options to break out of pressure other than Border Escaping but in some situations there still isn't any follow up. However, she has some of the best options for keeping momentum in her basic bullets. I don't see many nico nico matches with her though simply cos if you get read you're doomed. My 2 cents, the character I have the hardest time with at the moment is Tenshi and Reisen. Confirmed Guardcrush gogo! Edit: I have a perfect example! Will convert and upload then update here. =) Edit 2: Watched it long and hard, and decided that it wasn't that good a game. =(
I second Imperishable Night as a good choice for a beginner.
Regarding the fighting games, I guess I'm one of the few who is still stuck on 10.5. I really should upgrade to 12.3 sometime. I don't think that I'm that good, but my main characters are Remilia and probably Reisen after that.

You'll need to wait for the Comiket 80 in August, to see if there will be a demo of Touhou 13... Yeah, I know, we all want to have Touhou 13. Like, right now. :'(
Reitaisai 8 (Touhou-specific convention) is being held on March 13th. Word is that ZUN has registered a booth so it's quite possible he may be distributing a demo for TH13. I don't know if anyone should get their hopes up yet though, but no one knows for sure.

Remilia hasn't changed too much, got a few gimmicks skills to help her be even more confusing. =P Reisen got BUFFED!!! She's full of BS now. XD Edit: Added a video below. Her bubble skills are now so usable, faster startups for bullets, the discarders now also deny the use of specials for some time, etc.
I can try to find good reps in my folder for whatever matchups anyone wants. I really wanna get my channel off the ground and promote 12.3. Plus I feel there isn't too many videos out there for good quality games. Or maybe I'm just picky. =P

Imperishable Night is the easiest, and IMO one of the most fun, but opinions will differ. On Easy difficulty, all of the games are pretty accessible for a beginner, and they're all separate stories so it's not like you have to play them in order. Perfect Cherry Blossom and Mountain of Faith are probably also good choices.

Haha, I agree with Iku being predictable. It's just that with a good deck, I feel Iku is too strong, like with 2 coins, 4 bombs, etc... If you keep the pressure, it's all good, but if you're pressured, you can almost always get out with a deck like that. If it was only J.2A, it would be fun enough. Even some of her cards are absolutely incredible (like the 3 cards instant air spellcard, which deals like 3000+... !!).
But what I found funny is that, even if japanese people recognize her as one of the strongest character, she couldn't reach the final in the latest (I think ?) big tournament (Kouryuusen 1st). But oh well, it's obviously "this character" who won in the finals... + Show Spoiler +
OBV a Sakuya that won. T_T I wanted Marisa to win. :'(

By the way, you're really good with Sanae. O_O
Thing is, it's easy to punish predictability. Iku can give a lot of pressure but since chip can't kill in this series there's a lot less panicking.
However, most of the niconico vods I watch feature Suwako players. Almost 60% imo.
Thanks, I was determined to make her usable. =) I learnt and learnt. Now I have a use for every skill of hers. Except for Cobalt Spread, the frog alt 22. It's not very useful when compared to the default 22.

Thanks for the recommendation. I spent more time than I expected playing the game. Gah, I am heading to bed now. That game was epic.
hmm for me when i started playing touhou a couple of years ago perfect cherry blossom was easier than imperishable night but i'd now say ufo is the easiest game because you can get maxed out on lives very easy and so you can just "die" through byakuren's spell cards as some of them are very hard (at least for me).
@ abenson: i started to learn how to clear some cards without bombing and just bomb the other cards right away. choose a character with a strong bomb attack and always use all of your bombs before dying. that's how i managed to 1cc normal back then.
On February 18 2011 21:09 Abenson wrote: Tips on how to improve/not die in general? O_O
_ Take an easy character = one who has homing shots. _ Use your bombs in a smart way. Seems presomptuous, but you need to learn when to use bombs. Silly, yeah, but everyone make this mistake ! And if you really can't, when you feel you're in any pinch, use them. Don't die with bombs on you, they are wasted. _ MAKE (almost) ONLY LITTLE MOVEMENTS. Look at your character. Don't make huge movements. Sometimes, it's better to stand still than going everywhere. _ Look at replays on youtube. If you feel like a boss is keeping you from going farther, learn its patterns, then try it again. _ When you feel confident, try normal mode, and don't be discouraged ! :D
Don't hug the bottom, some spells are designed to get more intricate there.
Wait what? So apparently I've been playing the game wrong

Hmm... I can do that :D Although I must admit when I see a huge cloud of bullets I generally try to just avoid the cloud instead of dodging it.
By the way, where do you guys buy/download the games? And most importantly, how do you guys get English versions/translations?

if you stick to the bottom and just look at your character sometimes you get "shitwalled" (impenetrable bullet wall). therefore i'd recommend to look above your character and try to dodge bullets before they become a shitwall (happens a lot in final boss cards). so sometimes it's better to actively dodge bullets before they reach you instead of waiting for the bullets to reach you and then dodge it.

I bought my touhou games from www.himeyashop.com but that site is gone now and I dont know when its coming back or if its ever coming back.
But there are still few other sites where you can get the games
