Nothing wrong with Zest's popularity. He was streaming at the same time as Dark and had 2X the viewers. Around 600 vs 300.

Given that level of popularity I honestly don't know why he would ever not stream. It's cash in his pocket while he gets his practice in.

950 watching his stream right now and there are a lot of players streaming in SC2 and Broodwar. Rotterdam is streaming now. I hope Zest gets some encouragement from this.

Streaming is all well and good, but I hope he is in form for the Super Tournament qualifiers on Sunday.

Recently I notice this trend of whoever is predicted/favoured by Zest to win would lose afterward (see: Classic or Rogue)

Well, I asked Solar on stream and he predicted Inno too.

Innovation is hardly a brave choice here.

For those of us who play Protoss we have to cheer for sOs. As things stand now there will only be 3 Protoss at Blizzcon(Neeb-Stats-Hero). It's bad enough we are going to have a Blizzcom sans Zest.

It would be so strange! I was expecting to have Showtime, Neeb, Stats, herO, Zest and SoS (or Dear) for the blizzcon.
I want SoS to be part of it! It's always funny to see him play especially when he brings new strategies. I still remember the game when he took a probe and some other units in the warp prism and dropped pylons and canons in its opponent's base. I'm not sure its worked but just the idea of thinking about it is awsome!

Regarding Zest, I really hope he will be able to qualify for GSL Supertournament. However, I think it will mostly rely on the opponents he has to face. I think he still gain some stability during the lasts months. He is still losing against players like Innovation, Gumiho but I'm not sure we can blame him for this. But he did great against less competitive opponents which was not the case at the beginning of the year. We will see what happens. It's just that if he doesn't qualify for the Supertournament, then this year would be a pretty shitty year for him...

iirc Zest defeated Pigbaby, sOs, Classic, and herO to win right? He only played PvP for the whole event. Kespa cup winners have a habit of that lol
Zest, sOs, PartinG, Dark, and Maru are the real champs. ROOT_herO is overrated. Snute, Serral, and Scarlett are the foreigner GOATs

The economic impact of Zest's terrible year cannot be overstated. From 2014-2016 he averaged $100,000 in tournament winnings. This year it is less than $30,000 and he has no team salary or free room and board either.

I'm going to guess that being the top player on KT and the team captain was worth a salary around $5000 a month. I know we have heard about Broodwar players getting over 100K back in the day but that was back when Proleague was enormously popular.

So basically he went from making around $150K a year with free rent, internet, utilities and food and coaching to having to pay for his own expenses and making $30K.

That is an abrupt change.

It's when a player's annual compensation is closer to the level of an average person that they start considering moving on. I hope that is not the case.

Players start retiring when they can do longer get a viable income from pro gaming. Zest still can, so he won't quit anytime soon

It depends on what other opportunities you have. Practicing a video game 12 hours a day cannot be the easiest profession and no matter how much you love it at one time your enthusiasm can decline over time. Hydra retired in part because he wanted to get married. Being married and doing this for a living cannot be easy. Having a wife can be distracting to your game and the 12 hours a day you are on the computer and being a Starcraft pro cannot make you the most attentive husband.

An ordinary 7.5(Europe)- 8 hour day job might seem like a sunnier opportunity for some. You would have time to date, watch tv and play video games just for fun.

Then there is that mandatory year of military service hanging over the Korean players. That is not an optional thing.

Beat GuMiho 2-0, Solar 2-1 to qualify! Not bad, both are good players. Hope he can finally show what he can do.

Hopefully he can do well. In a bad year like this one a super tournament win would be awesome

Apparently, according to inven's interview with INnoVation, Zest was on of the Protosses who practiced with him for his GSL Finals

Thanks.

Ah, so Inno said his practice partners were Zest, Dear, and Stats. He said he had 4 practice partners, so I assume the 4th was probably Classic. Glad that all their hard work helping Inno paid off.
