There has been movement to change this, and in the text revision (to prepare for DSM5) they changed Gender Identity Disorder (GID) to Gender Incongruence (GI). The main difference being that someone is suffering from GI (and is diagnosed with it) before/during transition. Once they have established themselves in their desired sex, they are no longer Gender Incongruent. It's not guaranteed to make DSM5 though, and there is a bit of pushback and debate surrounding it. I don't want to hijack scarlett's fan page for trans education, so I'll just post this video for people interested in some of the science behind it, and congratulate Scarlett on her awesome performance. | ||
