Scarlett, how many hours a day do you practice on average?

after winning playhem tournament i played maybe 20-30 games/day average to prepare for ipl open bracket ; if you want me to go into how much i played since i start playing please ask : )

Why are you so awesome?

So you are no doubt really good but it appears you have been good for awhile. Why have you burst out all of a sudden instead of making a name through online tournaments?

EDIT: This question is quite unclear, if you need me to rephrase, feel free to ask.

i tried playing a few online tournaments and always played very poorly compared to how i normally play (also for improving it is much more time-efficient to play practice games or ladder compared to tournaments as they are very spread out) . i wanted to wait till getting better (so i could actually win online tournaments) before playing them otherwise it is pretty much waste of time

yes i am verg big stephano fan since before he win ipl ^^ (fan hipster !)

when i came back to playing sc2 from dota in late february this year i decided to watch many stephano vods and base my play somewhat off his (also with a little influence from nerchio) because i feel like they are the smartest zerg players (incl. koraens)

This might be a little too in-depth, but:

I've noticed that you tend to favor early roach warren play in ZvT against reactor hellion, and often skip spinecrawlers because of it. Is there any specific motivation behind that, or is it just a personal preference?

Since you don't seem to try to pressure with them, my assumption was that you go for the early roaches to protect your creep tumors, since you seem to put a lot of focus into creep spread. My guess was that your logic is to creep up the map as aggressively as possible to delay pushes, which gives you more time to react/prepare since you take a little bit of a greedier third base (as well as saturating it faster) than most Zergs. Is that accurate, or am I reading too far into things?

How did you get this good after playing for only a year? Were you practicing really heavily that whole time? How long did it take you to get to GM?

And why do you do all your laddering on your barcode account instead of Scarlett?

viOleT does, too, but both of them are also known for all-inning and/or pressuring with roach/ling against hellion openings, too. I obviously haven't seen enough games of Scarlett's to know if she does that too, but from what I've seen she's fairly passive with them.

You appear quite calm & collected in the photos from IPL, how do you deal with competition nerves? Did you notice MKP standing behind Bumblebee as you were whipping him and if so did it not freak you out? (noticed you are in the MKP fan club )

Scarlett, could you tell us a little about your Dota career? I've seen it mentioned a few times.

not really a career as i only played it casually though i became quite good as a solo player (i decided to play competitive because i hate relying on teammates ><)

i first played around vers 5.5 (long long time ago) and played very rarely from then till maybe april 2010 when i mostly stopped playing/making war3 customs and started playing dota much more. i was really a pubstar but quite good at it ; getting like 45-50(?)-0 win streak on dotacash pub games multiple times without playing with set group of friends. also got rank 1 on dotacash tier2 (to play tier2 there are certain requirements - ELO/#games played from pub games) by a significant gap at one point while messing around (like dagon 5/ethereal most games)

i dont think i ever played a single dota tournament though

(also notably took a break from sc2 to play dota from late november to late february - so i have played sc2 i think 9 month)

i played very on-and-off since beginning last april . i think i have played maybe 2000 1v1s in total so less than 10/day average (meaning 1-2hours a day average since i start playing?) and watch top zerg streams if i see them on (stephano/nerchio/idra)

i got into gm at start of season 3 (not sure how long season 2 was in which i started playing) - so was within a few months - maybe 500 1v1 games

i started playing on barcode account and disabled messages to it and had 0 friends because i wanted an account where i could just ladder and relax without anyone messaging me (i get many messages on my main account) - i guess i need to get new smurf now ^__^

i have been working on a zvt opening for a few weeks which so far i have had amazing success with on ladder which is super greedy but tries to be safe through creep spread delaying pushes enough to get more lings out

i actually use nat queen to put 2 creep tumours before first inject as well as 3rd queen dedicated on creep spread until 3rd base finishes in order to get creep spread started very fast (as you see in replay vs xGkingiaguz you casted earlier) .

roaches tie into this very well as they allow me to continue spreading creep with my very fast 3 tumour ; as well as making terran very worried about all ins forcing them to play defensive (and therefore i can usually play even greedier!) - such as replay vs dSeleCT you casted

(i am not 100% sure this build is safe as i have not done it for too long and occasionally have trouble with 2cloak banshee off 1rax fe as in the game vs keydEverize you casted - but if i see them coming i can make 3spore and be fine. also the very fast stim/+1/hellion/medivac push seems difficult to hold, but it should be possible as long as i scout it in time, and prepare with extra roaches/and some lings)

surprisingly i was much more nervous in online tournaments (incl. playhem 'sponsor me' tournament) than in IPL. i think my mindset was good coming in and only really had some nerve issues in series vs OZ because i thought i had no chance

MKP standing behind bumblebee did not freak me out because he and a few other koreans watched a little of my warmup games only like 2 hours before - and he is my favourite player !

my favourite moment from ipl4 was probably when i won game 1 vs OZ and i got thumbs up from MKP/Leenock/NesTea ^^

Have you run into any marauder/hellion pressures or allins while doing that build? They tend to counter any greedy roach/ling defense pretty hard.

Also, you mentioned that you were playing some ladder games during IPL4... any chance of replays? :D

i dont take 3rd unless i see them taken natural - so 1base marauder/hellion not problem ; i have run into marauder hellion 2base pressure a few times and barely defended it - but that is enough ! (2base marauder/hellion/pull most of scvs i might die to though... hmm)

Ah, okay. I usually try to go for marauder/hellion pressure when I see roaches and the zerg doesn't attack me, so I was curious to see if you have trouble with it, in case people start copying your style... maybe I'll start pulling my SCVs >__>

Another playstyle question: You seem to go hydras more often than other Zergs in ZvP, is there any specific reason for that? Is it part of your normal style, or is it just a coincidence that you went hydra in a lot of the small number of games that are available

i have been trying out roach/hydra pressure against stargate openings recently - though i am not sure how effective it actually is...
i used hydra vs oz's 3 immortal sentry warp prism all in on cloud kingdom because i thought i might need to vs him .. i have heard many zerg say you need hydra to stop that push ; though on ladder i just make roachling because i do not run into very good forcefields :x
~ in IPL nestea counterattacked vs that push because he did not feel comfortable holding it with roach ling only
(my zvp still needs much work as i have never played with a protoss practice partner - only NA ladder; although i mostly do not use hydras in my zvp it is little coincidence i guess)

What are your thoughts on being a total unknown on Thursday and by the end of the day on Friday being one of the most talked about players? I imagine it to be quite surreal.

Have you told your family about this? What are their thoughts?

Sorry if I am asking too much but your underdog/Cinderella story is just awesome. I am quite STCurious.

How did you get this good after playing for only a year? Were you practicing really heavily that whole time? How long did it take you to get to GM?

And why do you do all your laddering on your barcode account instead of Scarlett?

i played very on-and-off since beginning last april . i think i have played maybe 2000 1v1s in total so less than 10/day average (meaning 1-2hours a day average since i start playing?) and watch top zerg streams if i see them on (stephano/nerchio/idra)

i got into gm at start of season 3 (not sure how long season 2 was in which i started playing) - so was within a few months - maybe 500 1v1 games

i started playing on barcode account and disabled messages to it and had 0 friends because i wanted an account where i could just ladder and relax without anyone messaging me (i get many messages on my main account) - i guess i need to get new smurf now ^__^

Is that accurate, or am I reading too far into things?

i have been working on a zvt opening for a few weeks which so far i have had amazing success with on ladder which is super greedy but tries to be safe through creep spread delaying pushes enough to get more lings out

i actually use nat queen to put 2 creep tumours before first inject as well as 3rd queen dedicated on creep spread until 3rd base finishes in order to get creep spread started very fast (as you see in replay vs xGkingiaguz you casted earlier) .

roaches tie into this very well as they allow me to continue spreading creep with my very fast 3 tumour ; as well as making terran very worried about all ins forcing them to play defensive (and therefore i can usually play even greedier!) - such as replay vs dSeleCT you casted

Wow I am actually so impressed.... its just unbelievable how fast you have reached such a high level. Even if you did terrible at IPL4 being TOP GM with stats like a succesful fulltime pro on ladder is enough evidence that you are fucking good....

I think its amazing how an unknown player (not anymore obviously ^_^) is ranked in the top 10 of GM without being noticed. Most people probably thought your barcode account is a korean smurf or something lol and the fact that you had messaged blocked prevented teams from approaching you. I am sure now any good SC2 team in the worlds wants to have you on your team, you are a fan favorite, you came out of nowhere and your skill level after such a short time is actually ridiculous.. from what it sounds like you just copy what you have seen in streams of Stephano, Nerchio and other great zergs and you do it pretty much almost as good as them after a few hundred games. Although you seem like a great person I'm so much more impressed with your SC2 skill and how easy it seemed for you to reach that level.

I myself play A LOT, I'm still just top 300-500 Master on Eu server.. I've played 800 laddergames this season and relative to the other players I didn't improve since last season. I am lazy in terms of studying replays and such but I play a lot and I seem to understand things quicker than the average sc2 joe, but I am still so far away from being even a ladderhero. Do you have any tips how to practice very efficiently and how to become good as fast as possible, because I really want to become good at SC2 and the whole story around you actually motivated me to practice harder and more.

Really wish you best of luck and I feel like in just a few months your name will be named among great players like Stephano, HuK, Naniwa and SaSe. Keep fighting!
