I'm from Canada and play from EU all the time and I don't experience delay. Don't worry Scarlett, you just showed greater skills.

There is no delay from EU to NA, I'm high masters on both for context.

There is always delay, also within europe.
The question is just how much.

Should have used a different Eclypsia player instead I think

You're so manner. :> It's unfortunate that your first victory on Eclypsia may feel a bit hollow because of that, but you were able to show great games against Terious and Oz on a completely even playing field at Vegas, and game 2 vs Phoenix was almost pure decision making and macro rather than micro, so I don't think cross server lag delegitimizes your victory to any real extent. Just keep fighting and show everyone your true skills in every match!

Kind of weird that people are complaining that Phoenix had to play with lag, when Scarlett would've had to if the account stuff was figured out ahead of time. It didn't really even seem like much in the games was decided by things that lag would affect, but I guess being thrown off can mess with your head, I don't know.

Well the match was scheduled for EU between two EU teams and planned to be played on the EU server; Eclypsia sent Scarlett out with the assumption that she would have an EU account.

I disagree, sometimes I can play on NA and not feel lag, but other times it has quite a high latency (usually when I get a ZvZ haha). I guess it depends on where you're from and your ISP though (although I don't have problems otherwise). That said I'm not trying to say Scarlett didn't deserve the wins, but it's hard to tell how much latency PhoeNix had.

I sadly didn't catch the games though, and I can't seem to find the VODs on that eclypsia own3d channel. I'm not very familiar with own3d though, so it could be I just don't know where to look.

It's possible he had some latency, but at least in game 2, that game was not won on intense micro. Scarlett just had better decision making. She used her speedlings to delay natural mining until her own was up to catch up from opening 14/14 against hatch first, then just rolled over him with more roaches.

I say let her do what she wants as she knows what is best for herself. Playing a 5 game show match isn't going to be detrimental to her ability to compete with other pros. If she does well at MLG and beats pros in clan wars(such as the current match against Phoenix) then she will be successful regardless. There seems to be a culture of support among female gamers and it is nice to see Scarlett help promote their scene now that she has broken through.

The match is certainly not going to affect her ability, but I'm speaking more along the lines of public perception. Aphrodite is probably the only other even remotely close example, but she was fairly quickly relegated to novelty girl gamer when she clearly wanted to be more. Scarlett seems to be a much better player, but it's an issue of legitimacy in the eyes of sponsors and tournament hosts. We want her to be one of the best and have people know it, rather than have people think of her as one of the best women. Like I said, any exposure is good exposure to an extent, but this shouldn't end up being a habit. If she annihalates Aurora as we all expect, hopefully there will be no more gimick matches.

I know it's tempting to just say eff what people think, but in reality, this sort of thing will end up determining how seriously she is taken. The female support system is definitely powerful, but I imagine they feel the same way I do when they see the sort of "who's the best girl gamer" gimick.

Again, no big deal at this point. Just something to keep in mind when promoting events in the future.

Who relegated Aphrodite to a novelty girl gamer? She receives relatively the same level of attention as any other Korean code B player(not much). If Aphrodite makes it through the code A qualifiers or makes deeps runs in the Korean weeklys I'm sure she will get the attention she will have earned. (Aphrodite seems cool but it is hard to distinguish yourself in Korea). Having good publicity might help catch some extra invitations to closed tournaments/showmatches but most tournaments still have open brackets and legitimate contenders(like Scarlett) can make their name there.

Anyways as you said no big deal, I'm sure she will do fine whatever approach she chooses.

Don't be modest Scarlett, there is no lag from EU to NA, trust me ^.^ The ping is 187 which isn't noticable at all in RTS games.
