I say let her do what she wants as she knows what is best for herself. Playing a 5 game show match isn't going to be detrimental to her ability to compete with other pros. If she does well at MLG and beats pros in clan wars(such as the current match against Phoenix) then she will be successful regardless. There seems to be a culture of support among female gamers and it is nice to see Scarlett help promote their scene now that she has broken through.
The match is certainly not going to affect her ability, but I'm speaking more along the lines of public perception. Aphrodite is probably the only other even remotely close example, but she was fairly quickly relegated to novelty girl gamer when she clearly wanted to be more. Scarlett seems to be a much better player, but it's an issue of legitimacy in the eyes of sponsors and tournament hosts. We want her to be one of the best and have people know it, rather than have people think of her as one of the best women. Like I said, any exposure is good exposure to an extent, but this shouldn't end up being a habit. If she annihalates Aurora as we all expect, hopefully there will be no more gimick matches.
I know it's tempting to just say eff what people think, but in reality, this sort of thing will end up determining how seriously she is taken. The female support system is definitely powerful, but I imagine they feel the same way I do when they see the sort of "who's the best girl gamer" gimick.
Again, no big deal at this point. Just something to keep in mind when promoting events in the future.

Ok, I'm sorry I didn't know that. That is a bit more of a storyline beyond just the gender thing. You'll find that I am woefully uninformed about the history of the tournament scene.

I think if there's anything which is going to be detrimental at this point, it's an insistence on reading vast philosophic implications into a casual weekend show match. If, as a fan, you're worried about Scarlett's reputation being buried in mound of political construction, stop trying to politically construct her every move. It's the least her fans can do. Me, I intend to watch, and enjoy, her show match. For the sake of a match. For the sake of rooting for Scarlett. Not because I'm for - or because I'm against - any construction of its implications.

Scarlett vs PhoeNix just started.

Just wanted to say IM A HUGE SCARLETT FAN (I was banned for a month for being a bad boy so I couldn't post earlier)

Who needs anything but zerglings against banelings?
|
Scarlett takes game 1 vs PhoeNix!
She held off early baneling pressure with superior micro. Managed to hold both her main and her natural and prevent the banes from getting into her mineral line. She actually pulled all her drones to her natural as the banes came in. Once she had the zergling lead she took out PhoeNix's natural expansion and transitioned into roaches which forced the GG.
|
Hope to check back here later and see that she took game 2, but I need to head to a concert.
Go Scarlett!
|
Scarlett spanked PhoeNix. Woot!
|
Aaaand she takes game 2. Her play is so impressive and she had such an eco advantage in both of those games :D
Scarlett fighting! :3

Should have used a different Eclypsia player instead I think

That was a fantastic display of micro and decision making! Great debut. Hope to see more soon.

was only 2 short matches but you can clearly see how cool she plays

I can only imagine how difficult ZvZ would be with delay.
Anyway, did Scarlett 14gas/14pool both games? didn't catch the openings. What did Phoenix do?

There is no delay from EU to NA, I'm high masters on both for context.

Damn it I had the tab open muted while waiting for her game. She must've won somewhat quick heh.
