I hope she goes easy on her to make it a good show. Look what she did to Terious. 5 minute win. Nothing against Aurora, but Scarlett operates on a different level(literally).

I'm that pesky conservative campaign guy who wrote the essay back on page 88. The showmatch with Aurora prompted me to return. At this point in a fledgling career, any sort of exposure is generally considered good exposure. However, this sort of event emphasizes "female gamer" as opposed to "good gamer" in the eyes of many. I was actually hoping that a showmatch with Illusion would be forthcoming as sort of a new foreign talent display. It is extremely important to not allow Scarlett to be pigeon-holed as some sort of novelty (FINALLY A GOOD GIRL) because novelty always wears off. On a related note, there is a post in blogs called "female progamers in sc2" which basically states that Scarlett has ended the debate on whether girls can play at the level of men. Predictably, of course, the first reply contradicts the post, noting that Scarlett is not biologically female, and the usual temp bans and armchair behaviorist replies follow. I'm here to encourage frequent fanclub readers to not participate one way or the other in this sort of thing. At some point, every Scarlett fan is going to have to decide whether it is more important to him or her to see Scarlett succeed or to push the symbol of a transgendered person succeeding in the SC community. Both can certainly happen under ideal conditions, but I would suggest that pushing the symbol at this point in her career stands to lessen the chance of her success. The longer people have this largely uninformed (on both sides) debate to occupy their attention, the longer it will be before the general community is willing to respect her for skills alone. Again, make your decision as to which is more important to you and act accordingly. Resist the urge to spam the reply button to such things. Highest regards to the Queen of Blades.

I have to agree, I'm pretty miffed about the showmatch. If it was "Scarlett vs random masters zerg 2703" would anyone give a shit? Why should we care if she's playing Aurora? We already know who's better. You'd have a better show by picking literally any random jobber in GM, but instead it's hurr hurr girls.

I say let her do what she wants as she knows what is best for herself. Playing a 5 game show match isn't going to be detrimental to her ability to compete with other pros. If she does well at MLG and beats pros in clan wars(such as the current match against Phoenix) then she will be successful regardless. There seems to be a culture of support among female gamers and it is nice to see Scarlett help promote their scene now that she has broken through.

People tend to like themed show matches, I wouldn't look too much into it.

I have to agree, I'm pretty miffed about the showmatch. If it was "Scarlett vs random masters zerg 2703" would anyone give a shit? We, the prostrate, slavering fans, eager for Scarlett's first match would :p Why should we care if she's playing Aurora? For one thing, they have a tournament history. Scarlett beat Aurora in her second Iron Lady. Is a rematch so terrible?
