I'm very aware, that nobody wants to spread bad PR, but i don't know if thats even possible with a player of life's caliber. Therefore blizz and kespa probably keep shut, which is just the dickheadmove of the year, so far. I'm really fed up with all the shit happening in SC2, a game, barerly even alive, because blizzard just doesnt f***ing know how to give the game good publicity. Even excluding koreans off international tournaments (i know they only cant get WCS points, but its basically the same).
I'm seriously asking myself, what I wasted my time and energy on? I could as well just have tried to paint picures with a stick. It would have the same impact on the community as posting suggestions or matters of concern. How is Lifes situation Blizzards fault? it's David Kims fault
Ah of course! I understand now, thanks

Phredxor, I didnt mean to make Blizzard responsible for Life's situation (I'm curious how you read that out of the message). I just REALLY dislike the way they are handeling the situation.
And yes, it's always David Kimchilani's fault

If the Korean police tell Kespa and Blizzard and everyone to keep quiet on the subject, there is nothing those organizations can do. It can also happen that they don't have any official information to give you.
It's not the dickmove of the year, it's just common sense...

We don't even know if the police told them to do so...

During the R1 playoffs of SPL, part of me wanted to see the next announced player for Afreeca Freecs to be Life as a big upset and everything
|
that wouldve been the most epic moment in sc2 history :O

Definetly would have made my (and basically every Starcraft-lovers) day.

I like this post and agree with about 90% of it; I would add that I'm relatively indifferent to Life being investigated (I mean, the kr police will do whatever they have to do) but at least let him tweet something, let him address to the community, or some team representative at the very least. It's the constant silence that is bothering me very, very much. And I agree that the silence is the dickmove of the year (lets call that a prize that they won); everyone suffers as a result of this silence - the community, the player himself, Kespa, everyone.
It's also quite unfortunate that this constant uncertainty and the feeling of being investigated (whether he is actually being detained for so long or just stays at home and simply is banned from using social media and such) is most probably having a negative effect on his confidence, his trust in his own skills, his career; if he did, lets assume, for the sake of argument, that he did fix 1 of 100 matches every now and then (or was forced to by whatever factors, pressured into it), i think its still common sense to understand that he was a frequent target of the matchfixing mafia because he was the best, not vice versa. He is still Life, the winner of Blizzcon and probably the best player that has ever logged into the SC2 servers; he had a tremendous career overall, which cannot simply be denied, you cannot just say "yea whatever, he fixed 100% of his matches", that is just a ridiculous statement. Some people in the community behave as if Life is the very definition of cheating in (e)sports, lets not be ridiculous, at least until we have a confirmation of what happened. Judging by the length of the investigation and the fact that we know for sure that he is investigated for this reason, as far as I am concerned, he matchfixed once. Probably. Once. And thats the subject of the investigation. Not twice, not the entire career - once. You can assume that by the fact that it was made public, and by knowing that such accusations in Korea are not made public without certain facts.
It might well be the case that he was coerced into doing it by some factors, and maybe the silence is for Life's own protection, until the authorities reach the root of the match fixing community. But if this is the case, it won't hurt the investigation if they did mak this fact public "we believe Life was coerced into match fixing, we decided to detain him for his own protection blabla". At least to reduce this cloud of uncertainty over the SC2 community.
Regarding what you said about asking yourself if it was worth investing time and energy in Starcraft overall - I feel the same way, ever since the Life incident, because he happens to be at the very top of the chain; but there are 2 things that keep my faith in the community and this game as a whole, so to speak;
1) I've met Life (well, very briefly) and also seen him compete at the GOMExp Studio, and it just felt to me like he is one of the most humble and nicest people ever, he just did not seem to have that arrogance that a matchfixer would have. Of course this "feeling" might worth nothing in front of actual evidence but in his case, I like to believe this feeling carries some truth.
2) The players that I've had the fortune to get in contact with (from NA, Canada and Korea), are absolutely legit; they really are an inspiration, every single one of them. I just generally look up to people who fight, who struggle, who don't simply give up because a vast majority of people who achieved nothing tell them to.

what if life is choosing not to use social media?

Blasphemy

if he checks social media right now he could see people accusing him, people defending him. no matter how many people defend, there are still those who are accusing him.
|
still no update i suppose? i cant take this any longer. i wanna book a fly to kr, search my hero and ask him personally.
|
you can go to korea but it's highly unlikely you will meet life. Do you know where he lives. He is kinda like a celebrity even if you do know where he lives do you think he will just let you into his house. Police probaly still have him in custody and you have to go through them.

Where did you guys get he has matchfixed once? I didn't read anythng like that...
Also why are u making up sick theories about blizzard kespa and korean police. Its not very uncommon to avoid media when u fucked up so maybe Life is not comfortable coming out "yeah i matchfixed for more money whadap?"
We'll get update sooner or later its very hard topic to discuss for many parties let them figure things out and go it through it. It also is probably bigger than just Life so why would they leak information when the investigation process is not done?
We of all people should have patience for gods sake we are playing blizzard game where everything will come soon™

korea is a small country and life is a celebrety. Someone must have seen him or knows whats going on. The strange thing is that these peepz are not willing to share their knowledge with the community
|
I think that Life being called a "celebrity" in Korea is a bit exaggerated. SC2 is far from what BW was in Korea. It's true that Korea still has a huge gaming culture, but unlike as in the BW area, there are a lot of popular games now. People like Boxer, Yellow, Nada, Grrrr and a few others actually made it into mainstream television and a lot of Koreans heard of them, but I'm not aware of any SC2 player, including Life, being well known among the general public (non nerds). That's just my experience from talking to Koreans who have nothing to do with games though.
|
I'd look into if it's possible to obtain legal documents about Life's indictment if looking for any kind of information. These kinds of things are public information in many countries and my understanding is that the decision has to have been made at this point.

Sit back and let the people involved figure things out.

I guess Life can afford an army of lawyers so it might take a while. I still believe.

I don't believe he is that popular or that rich gamers aren't treated as soccer players on some retarted countrys.
