It's a nice sort of closure perhaps. True, if he quite for example after an IPL4 win, he would become a legend. Starcraft fans would still be speaking in years of him. Calling him greatest talent ever etc.
Still I hope that it wont happen. Stephano has left both options open, and said it would depend on his next results. Given that he has been very succesful recently and plays better than ever before, I would say there are good chances he wont quit after all.

I'm a huge fan of Stephano, but he's not proven he's the best in the world yet. Even to himself. If he does, before he quits.... well then... that would be a story.
He still needs to dominate MC MVP Nestea DRG on stage.
Then he'll be the best.
Then he can quit

I don't think Mr. Garfield would risk having Stephano in his team. He is very wary of the general opinion and wouldn't allow Stephano to quit online tournaments like he is doing. In a way, Stephano is too careless for EG.
I said it numerous times but the major advantage to play in Millenium is that he is a employee, as such Millenium has to pay for his retirement fund. That means that should he quit SC2, the work he has done won't be wasted. It's a luwury that not many players have and that no foreign team may provide.

What? Too careless for EG? So they have in their rank an obnoxious player that they constantly advertise but they would not accept someone who waited 1hour for his match before leaving?
I think your judgment is doubtful.

EG does appear to be the biggest spender among the teams though, I'm not even sure who'd be the 2nd highest payrolled.

And pass on tons of money he could make in the next 2-3 years?

(Ragequit vs. Nerchio after game1 in TLopen, throw games in showmatch vs alive)

Yea quitting while you are on top of your game is like intentionally dying when you are in the peak of your life... just silly.

The way Scoots talked during the interview and before it, it's like he thinks Stephano was a lost opportunity - ie he thought Stephano was going to retire so he didn't try very hard to recruit him back then, and now it's too late. I do think EG wants him, but Stephano's retirement plans make it risky for teams to fight over his contract.

No, not at all. If you promised yourself to give a progaming career a chance and you succeeded then it's not at all strange to quit. You've achieved your goal after all. Kasparov also quit playing chess when he was still #1 in the ELO rankings. Chess had nothing to offer to him anymore, he had already been world champion many times, so he felt it was time for him to do something else.
Spending time on something is not without cost, every further year you spend on progaming is one less year where you're not progressing your studies and your professional life.

i get the impression that stephano doesnt want to be one of those dudes who makes up the numbers and essentially hangs around the scene scraping 12 place finishes here or there, he wants to make good money and win things and if he can't do that he'll go elsewhere, smart kid, there are so many foreigner "pros" who will regret not quitting and going to college in a few years if they aren't already
|
Kasparov was the longest running chess champion, after becoming the youngest ever. He didn't quit early, he did everything there was to do in his sport.

So... will he participate in this upcoming MLG or not? i can't find the info anywhere.

Has there been an explanation yet, for Stephano's no show for the MSI Pro Cup 8? Was it caused by some confusion over Dimaga not turning up? Did Stephano know he was due to play Polt and just not bother turning up? Did he think after he got the bye from Dimaga forfeiting, that another game was scheduled next and so he went AFK? Did he have a hot date with a Texan chick that made him forget the Tournament? The entire thing is strange.

Yes, he will be in the Open Bracket.

He waited for a while for Dimaga to showed up.
