Actually no, MeatyOwlLegs (Naniwa's smurf) was the first person to get 4k ladder points world wide. I think DongRaeGu might have been the first one to get 4k ladder points on korea ladder, though.
I made the same mistake, Naniwa was the first one to do it outside of Korea :o

He was R1 for a loooooooooooooooooong time in Korea though when all the players like MVP and MarineKing were very active on the ladder and is considered to be among the very best by most top Koreans. Love him <3 I'm pretty sure in his TL interview that he said he was the first person to get 4k ladder points.

Like others have said, Naniwa (MeatyOwlLegs) was the first to 4k worldwide.

Signups are taken up to Dubpace. I assure you that there will be an MvP team fanclub if MvP wins GSTL.

Yeah, that control of him pretty much deserves him that name

The fact that he lost to IMSeed, a semi-competent protoss player, in code a qualifiers actually refutes the word "unproven". Look at the vods that I put in the op. In one of the ProS vs NL game, DongRaeGu randomly masses zerglings off of 13 drones against a 4 gate all-in and loses. Despite the fact that his control and management can be matched only by the best, his game sense, strategies, on-the-fly decision making skills are totally sub-par when it comes to ZvP. But I don't think that DongRaeGu's ZvP will be in that shape for a long time as MvP team has a lot of promising protoss players. Last season, MvP had 3 (?) Protoss players in code A (Avenge, finale, Lure) and one in code S (Genius) and also 2 team league superstars (Tails and GuineaPig).

I would rather give him the benefit of a doubt because he makes his own builds and while he still has quite a few flaws to his game play (terran included) they are rather obvious. If he doesn't slack of I think he has rather high potential to go far. What really limits him is that he does things blindly in the early game. He really needs to fix that as his mid and lategame seem rather strong.
Edit: Sign me up.
Also is he a failed b team bw player or a person that never got into it?

According to sc2ranks at the time MeatyOwlLegs was the first person to hit 4k ladder points worldwide. Multiple threads on TL will tell you the same thing. In fact, I'll link them.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/search.php?q=MeatyOwlLegs
EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised if DongRaeGu thought he was the first person to reach 4k ladder points worldwide, because most koreans don't seem to know a whole lot about foreign players. Also, it could've been lost in translation.
