Sad to see my favorite player retire, I guess the day I long feared has come at last. Best of luck to you in all future endeavors DRG. As far as I know, he's not "retired", at least he doesn't call it "retire". Several days ago when talking about his future plan, he mentioned that, if after 2 years the scene is still alive, he wants to continue his SC2 player career. That's one of the reasons why he didn't announce the retirement. He's leaving for a while, not the farewell. I know what you are thinking……well, let's pray for everything. : )

It's been one year since he was last on a team. He did play in both GSL seasons, so I wonder what his reasons were for leaving the team and whether that contributed to him disappearing from the scene. But then again, Bomber had a similar record as DRG this year despite being on a team -- so maybe it made no difference at all.

He said in one of his GSL appearances that he left SBENU because he wanted to play in WCS, but the WCS changes made that a lot harder and he didn't find a team willing to help him with that. Which pretty much killed his passion for the game.

![]() ![]() Shortly after he announced he had quit SBENDU and intended to join a foreign team, Blizzard changed the WCS system. The new rules required a permanent visa, which is difficult to obtain. So there he was, stuck in Korea without a team. Training on his own, his last appearances of 2016 were not convincing. He dropped out early in ro32 of GSL S1 Code S and lost a one-sided series against ![]() It is an unfortunate ending to his career. On the other hand, he was one of the more successful players in StarCraft II, winning a GSL, an MLG, and an IEM, among other top finishes. He'll always have that.
