Cheese and all-in are simply part of the game. They are progamers, they do what it requires to win. As simple as that. Most top player are known to cheese once in a serie, just take a look at Flash or Mvp. I think that Naniwa's proxy 2 gates was really smart: one free win and give him the occasion to use his build once again in the last map.

Some words from the hero of the hour
https://twitter.com/NaNiwaSC2

Glad that he took home the positive stuff from the event. Cant be sad after putting on on the best SC2 show of 2013. Looking forward to see Naniwa crush in WCS EU

Edit: just got back from DH, in the last 72 hours I have been soley traveling, watching SC2 and eating.
Slept 2 hours in the last ~40h now, lucky that you didn't disappoint Naniwa otherwise I would be mighty pissed now ^^

A haiku, in celebration of the win over Jaedong.

I still remember when he streamed on 15th December 2012 and this song was on repeat in his playlist:

Whenever I ladder I have this song in the background, so I can think about my hero. My motivation grows to 400%.

Det där var förbannat fint Nani. Hatar sånt där nationalistiskt krafs men fan om ens hjärta inte svällde när du tog tag i den där finalen. Tog i för kung och fosterland. Gjorde en ordentlig match av det.

Vackert!

Kinda wish there was another tournament, guess WCS EU. I really want to watch him play again, he always has builds that he owns, which is awesome. Sad he couldn't beat leenock, but leenock is known for good zvp

Cool that a foreigner did 2nd and losing 3-2 to Leenock in the grand finals. But I think that 2nd game versus JD....lame. Not a fan of that.

Well say what you will about cheese games (I agree that it can be dull to watch at times), but the proxy 2gate Naniwa did should be done by everyone that plays on this level. Most of these players meet eachother alot, and cheesing is a fear strategy more than anything else. It's the same reason professional poker players go all-in on 2-7 (or just crazy crappy hands that doesn't back the all-in at all) from time to time. It doesn't happen often, but it instantly puts carefulness and respect into the opponents. Suddenly they don't feel comfortable. Respectivly in sc2, JD next time vs Naniwa will send out drones to scout for this, wasting time every game because they know he's capable of doing things like this. Mind games. The game itself is not really entertaining and one could also call it "lame", but in the long run it's all about strategy...

Setting the tone for a solid year of Naniwins (I love how the id Naniwa makes pun-creation way too easy). It was an honor to spectate live yet again =) Best crowd ever for doing so as well.

and regarding the cheese game, +1 to above poster, and in addition I think it was a wildly entertaining game because of the high stakes. Nani would have been out of the tourney in 5 minutes had he lost. That made for a very tense moment.

I think mixing in a cheese every so often is important because it prevents the player from cutting corners. It's rather unfortunate, but that's the way it goes. I don't think a match where someone cheeses and wins is much better than a match where someone cut a big corner, getting away with it, and winning. I'd so much rather people -not- take any risks at all. Sadly, SC2 just ain't like dat.

Naniwa's 2 gate was definitely justified. As for his all-ins, I think they were appropriate against an opponent like Leenock. Leenock is a good player, but he cuts a lot of corners and takes a lot of risks. I like to think of him as the Zerg version of MC (at least the old MC).

NaNi isn't my favorite player but I think I've never been as excited and never cheered more for anyone in the terms of a single game as at the finals of Dreamhack Stockholm. That was some truly great play, I was sure he was going to take the tiebreaker at one point.. GG, WP!

I love that Naniwa (and also SaSe) have the balls to throw out extremely cheesy play like 2 gates and cannon rushes.

It's also clear that they do it very strategically. I don't think I've seen Naniwa fail with a 2 gate or SaSe fail with a cannon rush, and the reason isn't that their strategy is "unfair", it's because the two of them have become incredibly adept at reading if their opponents will be greedy or not. I hope Nani never gives up occasionally dropping some cheese in at the right moments, those games are always incredibly exciting and definitely keep his opponents honest.
