Well say what you will about cheese games (I agree that it can be dull to watch at times), but the proxy 2gate Naniwa did should be done by everyone that plays on this level. Most of these players meet eachother alot, and cheesing is a fear strategy more than anything else. It's the same reason professional poker players go all-in on 2-7 (or just crazy crappy hands that doesn't back the all-in at all) from time to time. It doesn't happen often, but it instantly puts carefulness and respect into the opponents. Suddenly they don't feel comfortable. Respectivly in sc2, JD next time vs Naniwa will send out drones to scout for this, wasting time every game because they know he's capable of doing things like this. Mind games. The game itself is not really entertaining and one could also call it "lame", but in the long run it's all about strategy...

and regarding the cheese game, +1 to above poster, and in addition I think it was a wildly entertaining game because of the high stakes. Nani would have been out of the tourney in 5 minutes had he lost. That made for a very tense moment.

Naniwa's 2 gate was definitely justified. As for his all-ins, I think they were appropriate against an opponent like Leenock. Leenock is a good player, but he cuts a lot of corners and takes a lot of risks. I like to think of him as the Zerg version of MC (at least the old MC).

I don't think a match where someone cheeses and wins is much better than a match where someone cut a big corner, getting away with it, and winning. I'd so much rather people -not- take any risks at all. Sadly, SC2 just ain't like dat. Naniwa's 2 gate was definitely justified. I like to think of him as the Zerg version of MC (at least the old MC). I love that Naniwa (and also SaSe) have the balls to throw out extremely cheesy play like 2 gates and cannon rushes. It's also clear that they do it very strategically. I don't think I've seen Naniwa fail with a 2 gate or SaSe fail with a cannon rush, and the reason isn't that their strategy is "unfair", it's because the two of them have become incredibly adept at reading if their opponents will be greedy or not. I hope Nani never gives up occasionally dropping some cheese in at the right moments, those games are always incredibly exciting and definitely keep his opponents honest.
