"Needless witch hunt"? Getting fed false information during a direct conversation with a tournament admin and being penalized for it is not a "needless witch hunt." Since you want to include Xeris's explanation let's also include comments posted by redditors pointing out holes in Xeris's explanation. NASL was in the wrong here.
Xeris wrote: + Show Spoiler +1) Naniwa's game was set in the schedule at the beginning of the season to be 12pm PST on the 27th of September (all players were emailed this schedule). I put it in the morning because I thought he was in Europe.
2) Since I learned he was in Korea, I had been having him play in the evening time since it's better for Koreans (I.E. morning game times are 2-5am for Koreans, the evening games are 10am-1pm for Koreans)
3) He was messaged by our admin at 11:45am PST (which is 3:45am Korean time) that he had his match (she's the morning admin so didn't know the match was supposed to be at night since she only handles morning games).
*4) He received TWO emails about the specific match time... on September 24th and September 27th stating exactly when the match was. *
5) Naniwa conveniently left out part of the skype chat log, which I will post here:

[9/28/2012 2:53:24 PM] Duran Parsi: [9/27/2012 11:45:35 AM] NASL Admin: Just a reminder that you have a match in 15 minutes.
[9/27/2012 11:47:31 AM] NASL Admin: Disregard, the match was postponed to later.
[9/27/2012 1:20:12 PM] Naniwa: oh.
[9/27/2012 1:20:13 PM] Naniwa: Nice.
If Naniwa truly thought his game was at 12pm PST, he would have been online and answered the skype message. He didn't respond to the skype message until nearly three hours later which means that he would have forfeit the match had it been at 12pm pst regardless.
For example: SeleCT was online for the time and received the SAME skype message (since we message players on skype if possible as a THIRD reminder for their match):
[2012-09-27 오전 11:45:32] NASL Admin: Just a reminder that you have a match in 15 minutes.
[2012-09-27 오전 11:47:47] NASL Admin: Disregard, the match was postponed to a different time.
[2012-09-27 오후 12:11:20] kyeonghyun Ryoo: so
[2012-09-27 오후 12:11:20] kyeonghyun Ryoo: what is it
[2012-09-27 오후 12:11:25] kyeonghyun Ryoo: 12:00 pm or 7:30 pm
[2012-09-27 오후 12:13:10] NASL Admin: 7:30
Since SeleCT was online and available he was able to clarify. To be clear, we send multiple emails each week (at the beginning of the week, a day before the match, and 15-30 minutes prior to the match via skype if the player is online). There shouldn't have been confusion as to which time the match was. Since "later" was clearly defined in multiple emails that Naniwa received.
Now -- the next part is: I spoke with Naniwa first without knowing the entire situation. After discussing it with my boss and our morning admin, I learned the complete details and we decided that it wasn't an error on our part since we had given more than enough information for him to know his match time.
I then put it up to Select whether he would want to play out the game, and he declined.
I think it's a shame that Naniwa reacted this way without taking the time to talk it out, and posting only a partial chat log that puts him favorably, while ignoring his response 3 hours later (which indicates that he didn't sleep after receiving that message, and could have at any time tried to clarify when the match was if he didn't already know from the emails he had been sent).
regimentIV responded: + Show Spoiler +So what I understand is that you told Naniwa that the match is postponed but then again didn't tell him to what date?
If that's the case:
I mean, sure, he could have asked for the date like SeleCT, but he could as might as well thought that you guys contact him again before the match starts (like you did before the original match).
I really don't see this being Naniwa's fault.
Xeris responded: + Show Spoiler +He was given the exact date and time in two different emails which we do for every player. It took him over 3 hours to respond to NASL Admin on skype (~1pm is lunch time for people who work in the US) so by the time he responded and subsequently logged off skype there was no time for her to actually clarify. Regardless of this however, he was sent multiple emails that stated exactly when "later" was.
RayFoxII responded: + Show Spoiler +Why could she not clarify on Skype? If she left that message then she could have left more messages clarifying. I don't see how she needed a response before being able to clarify the time.
Xeris responded: + Show Spoiler +That's possible. However, it doesn't take away from the fact that he literally received two emails on the 24th and 27th that stated exactly what time "later" was.
The point is not to say: "NASL is right and Naniwa is wrong." This could most likely be solved through all the parties talking it over, but Naniwa's first response is to try to create a drama-fest. My point is to show that while Naniwa is claiming this is a very one sided scenario, there clearly was a good amount of information available for him to know the correct match time.
RayFoxII responded: + Show Spoiler +The 24th email is invalid once your admin says the match is postponed without giving another time. And depending on what time the 27th email was sent, that is invalid too. If your admin says the match is postponed, without giving a time, after those 2 emails were sent, then what else is he supposed to think other then it's postponed until a later date?
Even if the email was sent after that conversation, that's a very short time of notice. Maybe he was sleeping because he thought the match was postponed
Xeris responded: + Show Spoiler +I'm not really planning on arguing about this. I feel like the situation was pretty well explained in the op but I'll explain again.
There are two possibilities: a) Naniwa didn't know his match was at 7:30 (I.E. did not read the emails I sent) - He should have been on at noon when NASL Admin messaged him. So: he either knew it was at 7:30 which is why he wasn't online at noon, or he thought it was noon and was 3 hours late.
b) Naniwa thought his match was at 7:30. He was clearly online when we messaged him on skype in the morning saying his match was in 15 minutes, which should lead to a response like Select's asking to clarify when.
c) While it is possible that the skype message did create some confusion, all official NASL communication, scheduling, etc, is done through email. It's been that way since Season 1 and is even in the contract and rules document. All match scheduling is to take place through email.
d) Again, my point is not to place right or wrong, my point is that this situation is something that shouldn't have even gone this far.
RayFoxII responded to Xeris: + Show Spoiler +What about the third possibility that he disregarded the emails once your admin told him the match had been postponed? Are you saying that information sent from your admins through Skype should be ignored by players? If so then you should really put that in your emails. Something like "Ignore any communications about schedules, schedule changes, dates, etc unless the information comes from this email".
J-ohn also responded to Xeris: + Show Spoiler +...all official NASL communication, scheduling, etc, is done through email. It's been that way since Season 1 and is even in the contract and rules document. All match scheduling is to take place through email. But you postpone over Skype? It would seem to me NASL has broken it's own contract.
And kjetulf also responded to Xeris: + Show Spoiler +There is a huge flaw in your logic in point a):
You just assume that Naniwa wasn't present at 12 when the admin messaged him about the postponing, but he could very well have seen that, and just decided later on that "Fuck, I should really answer that, shouldn't I?"(I do this all the time, for example) and then answered some 3 hours later.
The fact that Naniwa answered 3 hours late is -not at all- proof that he wasn't present to see the message, and therefore, the rest of your argument is rendered logically invalid.
All of those responses to Xeris are completely valid and Xeris did not satisfactorily respond to the arguments. Until something gets released that exonerates NASL, I don't consider this a needless witch hunt, Naniwa should get the chance to play against Select or at least not get a loss, and NASL further cements itself as one of the least professional "major" leagues out there.

After reading this, WTF NASL!?!
If NaNiwa doesn't get a second chance, I'm going to be really disappointed with NASL

I must say that i dont understand how u could read those responses into naniwas favor, all they do when responding to Xeris - is that they are calling naniwa stupid enough to think "oh so i read in an email that the match is postponed untill 7:30, but now she says at 12:00 'match in 15 minutes, oh wait its postponed' that obviously must mean that she means its been postponed to even further away than 7 hours 30 minutes from now!"
Be logical, if someone tells you "Hey lets meet at 12:00" then messages you "sorry, cant make it, 17:30 instead" and at 11:45 another friend messages "dont forget to meet us at 12:00 today, oh wait it was postponed" - You wont take that as "oh they postponed it even further".
Also this Xeris guy and the rest of you should learn to tell time, she wrote to him at 11:45, he responded at 13:20, there is only a 1 hour 35 minute difference between the two, not 3 hours.
AAAALso the "...all official NASL communication, scheduling, etc, is done through email. It's been that way since Season 1 and is even in the contract and rules document. All match scheduling is to take place through email." Obviously states that naniwa should have ignored what was said on skype and still gone with 7:30 as stated in the email.
However much i love naniwa, and however much i wanted it to be NASLs fault so that i could watch him play against select, im afraid that they did nothing wrong... they were even good enough to ask select if he wanted to give naniwa another chanse but he declined... so if anything - hate on select for being a coward

Is SeleCT really going to not play naniwa? He knows what happened between nasl admins and naniwa and still takes the walkover? I understand players taking walkovers when the other player doesnt show up and no reason is given, but in this case its just a cunt move to not play naniwa. I hope not many players are like SeleCT. It would be a shame if a player gets shot in the head before a game and comes back a week later after a miracle recovery, ready to play the oh so important game and then gets the news that the other player took the walkover.

Do you have some kind of problem? If you don't like NaNiwa then why are you wasting your time on trying to bash that into our heads several times while failing badly when you can just keep it to yourself and be a happy little hateful fella instead? You're acting like you're still in preschool.

It would be a shame if a player gets shot in the head before a game and comes back a week later after a miracle recovery, ready to play the oh so important game and then gets the news that the other player took the walkover.
I've always thought SelecT and NaNi were friends and seeing how it seems like NaNiwa is going back to dignitas this would surprise me indeed

Some friend faced him in ladder, my friend wanted to pause the game and Naniwa unpaused instantly sayin it was a waste of time and he should get out. So yea he is pretty mannered in tournament and shit ( except vs Jrecco ^_^ even if it's true ) but since this day i'm not a naniwa fan anymore.

No. I think he was right, if you don't have 10 maybe you shouldn't enqueue. And if you have to leave then you have to leave. To pause in a ladder game is pretty bm in the first place.

Just out of curiosity, how long ago was this? I agree that it's pretty stupid to unpause the game right away, but Naniwa has been in Korea for pretty much a whole year, so if your friend faced a "Naniwa" on the EU server recently it might not have been the real guy.

Well it was on his barcode account with a sick winrate of like 100-10 ~ just after WCS Sweden i believe so i'm sure it's him since my friend was a naniwa fan too he checked on sc2gears etc ^^

A true fan would understand a little bm on ladder after how WCS sweden went for naniwa. The man missed out on the most fun event this year, and dont tell me your friend is zerg? Zerg has been bringing out the worst in people since may this year.

Everyone is of course free to chose not being a fan, but using "he unpaused a laddergame vs my friend" as an argument for him being bad mannered to players he face in tournaments is pretty uncalled for in my biased opinion. 99% of all players have probably unpaused a ladder game at some time. Ladder is ladder and have your opponent pause IS a waste of time.
