To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules;
  • Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
  • When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
  • No reposting of old material unless justified
  • Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
  • No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
  • Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
  • No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
  • No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
  • Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)

Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.

That holds true for every idol "band" group though. LED Apple, CN Blue, etc. almost never get a chance to actually play the instrumental parts anyway. Since AOA is also a dance group the illusion is just weaker than usual. But in all cases the instruments are pretty much never even played, so I have no idea why you're only holding this against AoA.

Plus, you know, butt dance.

It's because having a large head (at least in relation to height) is a common trait amongst Koreans. A mild form of national inferiority complex.

Exhibit A: Haeri has the classic Korean face proportions, Minkyung has the more "ideal" ratio.

Exhibit B: Average Japanese and Korean women's faces for comparison

Well I never said I didn't have anything against them as well. lol. AoA is just the example since of their recent release.

I guess it doesn't bother me because it's just another concept; some groups pretend to be "fairies", or cheerleaders, or whatever, AoA pretends that they can play instruments.

Being fairies or cheerleaders can be hot though, whereas playing instruments when you evidentially can't just looks dumb.

I get your point though.

I get that it' just another concept, I just think it's a concept that's really lame. It's just so blatantly obvious that they don't play at all and they aren't even rawk at all, it's just so manufactured. I get that CN Blue or FT Island or whoever are manufactured too but AoA just aren't believable with it at all.

Yeah and what Haxx said, they look dumb.

Pop rock music just doesn't work.

Anyways, enough AoA bashing from me.
I've been listening to this song, liking it a lot.

Two questions arise when seeing that movie:

1) Why are they all stuffing their faces with lollipops?
2) What are all the flags doing in the background? Is it some kind of international get-together thing? If so, why are there only Koreans? + Show Spoiler [read] +

But it isn't any more believable that snsd were cheerleaders or t-ara were cat people/Indians.

It was playfully done though, they weren't taking themselves seriously, and one promotion cycle != career gimmick. AoA's entire concept is banked on the half band/half idol group.

I don't know I don't think they expect anyone to treat them like serious musicians.

Costumes in the music industry aren't that odd of a thing though. A fake band is something different.
And it's not like SNSD's whole gig was "Come watch the cheerleading idol group." AoA was promoted as a band.
I haven't watched the new video, was it just a one time concept or are they still a band?
Edit. Forgot a word.
Very conflicted about this gal.

SNSD looked cute as cheerleaders and T-ara looked cute as cat people & indians. Naturally it's just an act, but at least they do it in a way that's easy on the eyes even if it's not necessarily believable. AoA's concept is not only non-believeable, but more importantly only makes themselves look worse. That's what really matters, not who they're pretending to be or how well they do it, but the general quality of their own imaging.

No. I've made a life decision. I'm going to abstain from all women until I move to Korea and meet her. There's only one for me.
