Twinkle Twinkle was ok but I don't think that really counts cause the subgroup was made with the intent to create music SNSD could never do. Plus it failed live for me when they sung average at best and the backing track of their vocals almost drowned out their singing.

I suppose this thread would be a lot less interesting without the hurt feelings. Looking at you, Sones.
For me Kpop fandom, where it's not just Korean woman worship, is borderline hipsterdom. There has to be in an intelligent individual the knowledge that it is, relatively speaking, pretty bad. As I've said, I just enjoy Korean ladies' voices, but there isn't any reason for me to touch kpop specifically. I do because it's quaint. I like the cute Engrish and aegyo and they look pretty damn good, which is not hurting their cause at all.
2NE1 miss the mark on a few points by being too western sounding, having zero aegyo and not being anything special to look at. Despite that, I have their second album and it gets an occasional play.

I never really liked anything T-ara put out. Maybe Roly Poly cause it was super catchy, and a couple of their songs from their first album, but Lovey Dovey was carbon copy of Roly Poly and Cry Cry was durrrr. Their new album is pretty bad and the constant string of long MV's only annoy me, and only show off how bad they are at acting. I prefer T-ara as a visual group, Hyomin, Eunjung, PJY, and Soyeon so qt.
That said, I also prefer SNSD as a visual group too, as I never really loved anything they put out either. I do like most of their title tracks but they aren't high on my playlist, and sometimes I just skip them. I don't know if there is a clear definition to being a SONE, I call myself that only because of how much money and time I devoted to them but if blindly liking them for everything they put out no matter how much it sucks is the qualification, then I guess I'm not a SONE.
My playlist is dominated by boy bands and ballads though.

as for hipsterdom eh its kpop

Is it your wish to posses this kind of power? My wish is for you to admit that 2NE1 is a respectable kpop group that makes great music, and is known more so than many others overseas, even before their world debut EDIT: @Dystopia, you so meanT_T She sexy! The power I was referring to is the ability to enjoy music without seeking validation from others. To enjoy it simply because you do. To not feel burdened when other people voice their dislike for it. I ask again, Is it your wish to posses this kind of power? Interesting question. I think i would, but not for Kpop. I come from a very broad range of music, listening to countless genres and playing many instruments myself. Kpop is something more than just a song though. I always viewed kpop as 30% song, 30% visuals, 40% personality. The way Korea have avoided the collapse of the music industry was by creating idols that could be used for advertising. I think it is a much more social and interactive experience than any other music industry, and i could say now that depending on who brings out the track can influence how you like it or not....say for instance that guy above me probably hates every 2NE1 song before it comes out, but if his fav group sang it, well it would be a different story. So i guess no, because Kpop, to me at least, is more than the song itself, but the personality and visuals as well... I told you, I fucking hate autotune and most of 2ne1's backing tracks sound like robots fucking each other. It's actually terrible shit. Do you know why my favorite groups are my favorite? It's not cause the idols are the most kawaii or some shit, it's cause they've come out consistently with songs that I've liked the most. T-ara- Absolute first Secret- every promo track they've done barring love is move Rainbow- same, especially A. That was the shit. A Pink- literally all their albums have no songs that I haven't enjoyed to some degree. Now look at groups I don't- SNSD- no good song since Gee 2ne1- electronic bullshit (i have mentioned their occasional ballads are ok) To reiterate, I don't like 2ne1 not because of who they are, but because their music is shit. If you switched T-ara and 2ne1's discography I would have 2ne1 in my sig and not T-ara. I wouldn't say they're hot (cause they're not and good music ain't gonna change my opinion of that) but I would like them a hell of a lot more than I do. edit- actually wrote that out before your response lol but I guess I accidentally answered it. Any group that made something like baby would not be a favorite group of mine. Actually, fuck it. They'd be ok in my book because I enjoy baby semi-ironically. But that's not the point.

Man, I leave the thread for a few hours and we already pretty much covered all the bases Split thread, jab at sones, "please like what I like", assorted pictures...
I do have to admit, even as a huge SNSD, their music is the most inconsistent. Some of their stuff I think is awesome but it's like a 30/70 split between great and meh. And that's through my bias so I can definitely understand when people bash them musically. T-ara is probably the most consistent for me, I can't think of a single god awful track from them and their songs are consistently some of my most played.

Plus those girls are built small, you know like some people just have larger builds or whatever? Petite girls looking skinny isn't nearly as scary as a chick who used to have some meat now all skin and bones.
Plus 80% of kpop girls ARE too skinny. Most of them shouldn't be hovering around 100 pounds, the industry standard.

Every group comes out with great songs and bad songs. Everyone is also entitled to their own opinion when it comes to liking something and criticizing it. For me personally SNSD has been the best group so far and I've actually liked there songs post Gee and the sub group TaeTiSeo. T-ara has some catchy songs but I can only think of 2 or 3 songs that I've actually loved. As for the other groups its a hit or miss and sometimes I will enjoy a song but lose some interest over time. I actually enjoy some 2NE1 from time to time, they may not be the best group out there but there not as bad as I feel people in this thread are making them out to be. Maybe I misinterpreted something but I feel that the general consensus about them is that they are really awful.

Doesn't look much different in these old vids compared to that pic imo. I agree that most kpop girls could put on some weight and look better though. TnA > surfboard.
