purely in terms of song quality. Performances for the first two were meh.

What the heck does "Sexy, free, single I'm ready to bingo" even mean?? Are they really saying "bingo"? Cause I hear "I'm ready to Pringle" and I immediately thought of the chips and got confused. Bingo is just more confusing. At first I thought they they said "mingle" which would make sense, but in the subs it says "bingo".. If it's music show subs they're wrong a lot of the time. I think they do it by ear themselves and don't double check it at all.
but imma say it's bingo cause that's funny.

Day by Day is a solid T-ara song (Same goes for the album in general). Problem is that it isn't a dance song at all, so the performances seem kind of strange. And normally Soyeon carries T-ara vocally, but sadly she's really off this promotion cycle. Should have gone with Don't leave as the only ballad and Hue or perhaps even Holiday for the dancing one.

I have heard more new releases by t-ara in their 3 year existance than others who have been around twice as long. wasnt the downtime between roly poly and lovey dovey like.. nil? clearly you haven't really listened to all of their discography. half of their albums were rehashes/remixes. they haven't had a full-length album since Absolute First (and its japanese counterpart), the rest of their releases were all EPs. Has nothing to do with slave management, and everything to do with terrible decision making. Well it worked to an extent, they are the 3rd most popular girl group in korea, maybe 4th whatever. And clearly their horrible schedule has no impact on the music they will perform that is up to writers and composers, furthermore of all the groups in kpop T-ara probably has the least input. That said T-ara was tainted since the first revamp, Good person with Jiae and Jiwon still better than anything they have done.

Don't know if I agree with that but I've never been one for ballads.

I thought people just liked T-ara cause of looks in the first place..
Anyhow, the 2NE1 song is pretty bad.. but the performance was ok I suppose.

Wait what???? is there a better looking group? but serieus only group who is around the same on looks for me is AS. And i think i have read that a lot of people here think it is a good looking group (maybe not the best as it is for me, but definitely a good looking group) so i do think looks are a good part of T-ara's popularity.
Edit: I see you said it was on a personal level, so ye for some it might be the other way around. But as respons to the first comment, the looks are pretty important to.

Agree with HaXX. I would say T-ara are one of the few kpop bands who release consistently good music. Regarding the looks I'll just say that it's a nice addition to their music (PJY #1 )

They release consistent music alright, just consistently bad. + Show Spoiler + Okay not bad by kpop standards I guess, but fucking bad compared to Absolute First. A lot of us are still holding on to the glory days of Absolute First. I still can't believe people here think that Yayaya was better than Day by day
|
well I didn't mean I think they look bad, that's clearly not the case either, just that that is definitely not their biggest strength for me
Yayaya is a good song with GsD logic, otherwise it's too wtf to rate
|
Yayaya is not good by any means, especially when compared to T-ara's other songs. Day by Day the mini-album is saved by 떠나지마 which is quite good, and Loliday which is f'ing awesome I don't care what anyone says. It would have made a much better title track to promote imo.
then again i could just like it because singing 'loliloliloliday' is hilarious
|
Hahaha Moonwrath being a rebel ^^
I gotta agree with everyone else in that the third track (떠나지마) was great (I think I mentioned this already but meh). That was actually a very enjoyable song for me

No I even considered the possibility of the girls day effect. I could understand Lubby Dubby or Loly Poly working because of gsd effect since they're catchy as hell but yayaya was just a trainwreck. You could probably record a trainwreck, autotune it and it'd still sound better than Yayaya And the fact that they re-released it in Japan just further suggests that CCM has no clue what they're doing
|
With t-ara I was gently lured into liking them through watching their stints on variety shows and interviews, it was like learning to enjoy the bitter taste of healthy green tea. With soshi it was like being washed in a calming ocean of English breakfast tea coloured pink on a sunday morning.
With gsd I was bullied and coerced into liking them through a relatively small but dedicated fanbase. Everyday, Girls Day!

If anything it's a perfect song for Japan. Have you heard the trashy crap that J-Pop consists of? (Other JP music is fine, Jpop is just terrible though).
|
Well the majority of my close friends are weeaboos (I'm like the token minority/koreaboo.) so I get a shitload of jpop thrown at me and I still don't see the parallels to j-pop outside of being terrible. And the Japan release was more about how they had a list of reasonably successful tracks to release and they went with Yayaya. It just doesn't make sense to pick up the bottom of the barrel when you haven't exhausted every other option yet. They ended up releasing everything else anyway so it's a moot point now either way.

You say they release bad music and in the spoiler it's suddenly not bad compared to kpop. With which type of music did you compare T-ara at first? Of course you have to compare T-ara with other kpop groups, don't you? My statement was that it's consistently good music (next time I mention that good means above average kpop...). I'll say it this way: If you create a playlist for each group, T-ara (and a few others) have the least songs you are going to skip at listening, don't they? Besides that I agree with you that Absolute First ist easily #1 by far and Yayaya was the worst one.
