Meh let's be realistic here. I'm a big Soshi fan, but New York has a huge Asian population, so obviously there's going to be a huge turnout. When that happens in Oklahoma or Nebraska, let me know.
Um, would any artist/group get a big turnout in nebraksa???
No kpop group would, but I would think this guy would do quite well
Ya, because he clearly doesn't have rabid fans... Also, of course SNSD would go to places with an asian population. Saying that they wouldn't do well somewhere doesn't mean anything. I don't see a lot of country artists coming up here to New Hampshire. Doesn't mean country artists aren't really popular in some parts. And of course kpop won't be as big as regular american top40 but that doesn't mean it can't be successful.
This is the definition of popular, being able to hold concerts all over the country, with fans all over the country. SNSD is a niche group, and I would imagine there being more people going to MLGs than to SNSD concerts across the country tbh
As much as i love snsd and kpop, i agree you have to be realistic ... SMTOWN was able to have concerts in LA and NYC but i imagine 85% of the fans were Asians (Koreans, Chinese, whatever) could be wrong but ill say that for now. i am happy they were able to get a good fan meeting, good start but they have to get better songs and promote way more before anyone can say they are popular or well known in the USA. I don't know anyone who even knows what Kpop is or who snsd is ... so unless the average person knows they are just a niche market.
Ill use this as an example, i am Indian and when the movie slum dog millionaire was out people were all excited about "Indian" movies, they thought that was what every "Indian" movie was but ... no no ... generally they are musicals and very cheesy, and oh ya no one cares about "Indian" movies anymore but me . If people actually saw what kpop was its not very attractive to a US audience. Kpop is good because it sounds good in Korean... it loses its appeal to me at least in English.
Yeah a huge part of the appeal to me is (other than IMO idols are hotter than western stars) is that the (probably) inane lyrics make no sense to me so I don't get annoyed at them.
That would depend whether or not you listen to generic kpop or the songs that have some meaning.....I listen to mainly korean ballads and some choice kpop songs, so I don't think understanding or not understanding the lyrics has anything to do with it.
...and if you do listen to the kpop that just sounds catchy and has no meaning, well, then you should already know it probably doesn't mean anything and should not expect poetry in translation.

Ya I wish they would stay more korean. Don't like the boys at all compared to older stuff but o well. I just want more concerts in the states. Also, has everyone else here heard of jason aldean or kenny chesney? I certainly haven't. I don't think the average person needs to know about something for it to be really popular.

I listen to a little of everything but mostly kpop...I like ballads and stuff too cause shit just sounds good, with kpop I know the lyrics are shit but, as I said, not understanding means I don't care. I like it cause it's catchy.
Hm pretty short post so I'll add a short story that made me laugh last night. I go to make some food, walk back to my room with Ramyuns (obv) and walk in front of the living's room TV. Hear about 200+ dead in Syria in the last few hours. Meh, standard. Get into my room, what do I see on my monitor, NICOLE TWEETED USING THE ''TTT T_T" SIGN!!! What happened?! Is everything okay, what does this mean ? Must investigate!
That is all lol, #LifePriorities
Sometimes, I don't know if you're my hero or the opposite
I'm not a hero. Nicole is. She's the Hero we need but not the one we deserve. (No new pictures today, sad day) + Show Spoiler [Charismatic hero] +
Here's more... from SBS who have also been putting some of the Inki archive online over the last couple of weeks, in varying quality from 480p shit to 720p quite shit to

I'm sorry but what's the problem with their fans being asian?

No...thats kind of his point i think.
Get an American top40 artist and a venue where they could play and the turnout would be decent...the point being that New York has 1. A lot of Asians and 2. SNSD's trip is a one time thing, so Sones really want to go
means that the "amazing" 1000 person turnout isn't really that special. Plus think if any artist here did a public signing you'd get a ton more than 1000 people anyway...so yeah this isn't that special.
While I agree that 1300 fans showing up doesn't really say anything about their popularity or increase in popularity, it was said that the only other artist that they had to close the store for was Lady Gaga. That Best Buy has done a ton of signings too so that makes me think that just any old artist here isn't guaranteed 1000 fans (or "a ton more") or anything.

Remember though that Lady Gaga is constantly touring and has hit up many venues, whereas many fans think (maybe correctly? idk) that this will be their only chance to EVER see SNSD short of flying to Korea. The whole "This is a one time thing"+more fans of kpop than anywhere else except for maybe LA means that they're going to have a huge turnout.
Well they will be (or supposed to be atlaest, who knows what could happen) on the west coast in like 4-6 months. That was made known at the same time that this NYC trip was announced (only 1 week in advance). Apparently this west coast trip has already been delayed once though. >_>
So not really a one time thing, and the fans that were on top of the announcement knew this much so I can't really put a number on how many flew across the country for this. I am sure it is still a significant amount that did though.

The problem is that they still aren't mainstream enough to where random Joe #2 on the street will be like, "Oh, Girl's Generation? Yeah I know them." Whereas random Joe #2 knows who people like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are even if he doesn't listen to them.
The girl who did that cam lined up for Kelly at 9pm the day before. Kelly was nice enough to take her backstage to meet the girls and she got taeyeon's signature.
Edit: also about that stalker cam of snsd shopping, that was paparrazi not fans. F the paparrazzi in this country. Rude dbags. They don't even know who they are just that they are famous and the paparrazi stalked them everywhere getting right in their face.

Wow that is very nice of her! Experience of a lifetime for the fan. Dedication pays off. I'll make sure to remember if KARA ever goes on Kelly ^_^
