Hi everyone,

I haven't checked this thread in a couple of weeks, mainly cos I was in Korea. I thought I'd share some of my kpop related experiences with you all.

Upon arrival, the place seemed pretty desolate and boring. This may or not have been to do with the fact that me and my mates arrived at 5 am (which we later learned was the time shops in Dongdaemun closed at). Having just walked around in Chungmuro (where we stayed), the streets didn't seem very fancy, there was that bad sewer smell occasionally which is very prevalent in Asian countries.

One thing I immediately noticed was the fact that hardly anyone was fat. I guess about 1/15. Being one who lives in Australia, this was an AWESOME change. The second thing is that compared to the Angry, small-eyed Koreans in UNSW (rather solid generalisation if I may say so myself), the general populace did not have tiny eyes, and all looked pretty damn good. It was evident that they all put quite a bit of makeup and effort into making themselves look good, which I solidly appreciated. For some reason all the women seemed to have double eyelids, and perfect skin. Later I found out that you can buy double eyelid tape at 7 eleven, and makeup stores are friggin everywhere, so that partially explains it.

The prevalence of K-pop is astounding, and I learned the true power of Lee Seung gi in Korea. From toothpaste to fridges, that guy's face is everywhere. Something hilarious I noticed was that while this makeup store chain called "The saem" was endorsed by both LSG and After School, the front of the store had like 3 cutouts of LSG, and then some pictures of afterschool in the back. Pretty much every store was blasting out kpop, most common being cry cry, love is move, the boys, be my baby; pretty much the recent hits and some other ones i'm not too familiar with. I'm pretty sure I heard The Boys about 100 times, so much that as an initial hater, I've actually grown accustomed to singing the chorus when it comes on...

Which brings me to my next point: Mnet Countdown is epic. For those who plan to travel to Korea, I strongly recommend you do this at least once on your trip. It's easy as to get in. On the 8th, we woke up at 4:30 am to line up for Mnet countdown tickets. Thats a 3 hour wait, as the guy comes out at around 8 with a list where you write your name down. Returning at 5 pm, we got FRONT ROW for Mnet, as we were first in line at the morning. AND HOLY BALLS, LIVE PERFORMANCES AND JIYEON AND 100X BETTER. I shall leave you with some sneaked very shit pictures. they're shit because they keep continual watch for people trying to take photos. I had to take these without actually looking at the camera

P.S: holy shit jiyeon is so fucking good irl

tl:dr; korea is fucking awesome, compared to australia it is just amazing, and i defs want to go back, and might even give a shot at living there
