In the industries, comparatively we have Jessica, who has went through 7 (I believe) years of training to finally debut in SNSD (The least trained was still a trainee for 3 years.), and we have AKB48, who went through 1 month of training to debut. Korean groups go through rigorous testing, physically and mentally, when they debut they are literally perfection. Japanese groups don't get too much of that, so they're more bound to mess up, or be uncoordinated. Which is a cute thing to a lot of Japanese men, Kawaii factor too big.

The girl seiyuus and idols sound like nasally 8 year olds. K-pop is just a lot closer to typical pop conventions set by American pop culture.

My first girl was Kahi from this video. The outfit, the dance, dem abzz... It's funny because I followed kpop back around Kim gunmo (whom I still love) but I never got into girl groups until the above video. After that, it's like I saw the light because I went back to watch Gee (which I had seen when it first came out and thought meh) and it was glorious. Now, Tiffany #1, Taeyeon close 2nd ^^

Of course that doesn't say anything about the quality but still ![]() I felt Mach sounded alright with the transition to jpop until I heard Woori rapping in Japanese towards the end. Totally ruined it for me. T_T As for what brought me into kpop, I started listening to BoA around 2002-2003. Never really got into kpop as a whole, but I liked BoA's stuff. Fast forward to summer of 2009, I see SNSD's Gee music video randomly posted on some website, and thought wtf is this shit, 9 girls? Then towards end of 2009/beginning 2010 I randomly come across Taeyeon in WGM. The rest is the story is the usual kpop conversion and I settled on Jessica as my favorite. I don't really remember why I picked Jessica as my favorite in the first place. Probably had something to do with her singing an English song.

Well according to the Korean definition of an "idol group", groups like Happiness, BRIGHT, and AAA would be considered idols as well, and I'm sure those three groups have as just as much talent and performing capability if not more than what's out there in K-Pop. At least in J-Pop there's a relatively much clearer definition of what an idol group is and isn't. It's bad when within the industry Davichi and 2AM are considered idols. The day IU was considered an idol... ugh. At the very least, it's not inconceivable if someone like Ken Hirai, Miliyah Kato, flumpool, or Yui get #1 on the weekly Oricon chart. Hell, there's even room in the Japanese market that an unappreciated idol group like SuperNova can achieve great success. Btw, this is what started K-Pop for me, still can't believe Koreans are still using their national pride to still condemn him because of US citizenship, whatever the timing of getting it was. Pretty disgraceful considering someone like Kang Ho Dong can come back in like 5 yrs maybe and act like his tax evasion bullshit didn't happen at all. No one in K-Pop past or present could match YSJ's overall performing skills.
