I'd say Baek Ji young(who is basically the OST queen, has alot of soundtracks of drama's, most of them are good) and Lena Park/Park Jung Hyun are probably what you are looking for. Aside from that you know Davichi, they have good ballads, See Ya has several good ballads and IU has too, however they aren't as uhm ''strong'' i'd say as the previous mentioned. The Last is a very good song by See Ya though. One of Baek Ji young her OSTs, from Iris + Show Spoiler + Lastly, I am a Singer is a korean music program who has many artists on it who sing various really good ballads, not really my cup of tea but it might be yours.

During his recent interview with StarIn, Yang Hyun Suk stated, “We have plans to debut new artists before the third quarter of next year.” He added that of those new artists, one will be “an attractive and talented girl group like SNSD, but with some YG flavor.” YG Entertainment is home to major artists like Big Bang and 2NE1, and they’ve established themselves as one of Korea’s major entertainment labels. Before he went on to talk about his new girl group, Yang Hyun Suk revealed his process on how he chose which trainees to debut. “When it comes to selecting the members, the ones who performed the best looked the most appealing, that’s all! (laughs)”. He continued, ”I think these days, there are a lot of young people who are extremely talented, and are also very attractive. …It took five years before Big Bang was able to make their first debut, but because these kids are so talented these days, and since all the studios have state-of-the-art technology, I believe it’ll be possible to produce a new group within two years.” YG Entertainment currently hosts about 30 trainees, and he plans on debuting a few rookie groups towards mid-year 2012, one of which being the ‘YG SNSD’. He assures, however, that the new groups will be different from anything YG has ever done, and that their style will not be anything like that of Big Bang’s or 2NE1’s. He continued, “I like to try out new things that others have yet to, and if you take a look at all the groups that YG has produced (such as Big Mama, Gummy, Seven, Big Bang, or 2Ne1), all of their styles are unique. It’ll be no different for these new artists.” Sounds like the intention is to put them out when SNSD expands to the rest of the world in 2012. Attempt to capture the Korean void left behind. I'm curious as to how they'll do that without diluting or destroying the 'YG brand' as it were.

edit- and Hyosung was scouted by someone else, who also picked out that ex-T-ara member (forgot names), G.Na, UEE, and Yubin, so if you can say anything it's that Good Entertainment knows how to pick em, and everyone else knows how to pick them up after shit falls through lol. double edit- Cube does the same thing too- look at all their artists- Hyuna, most of B2ST, G.Na idk, YG is really good at what they do, so I'll trust that whatever comes (and if they haven't even picked/auditioned out trainees yet, it'll be awhile) will be good...I don't like 2ne1 but I have to admit it's more cause I hate their concept and the style of music that goes along with the concept more than anything else; they've all got talent. Hopefully they'll go easier on the plastic surgery this time around though...looking at Bom here.

If it is cheaper to beat talent into someone than to give her a nose job, then it is no surprise that the industry will choose to beat talent! Of course, the costs of mastery and the costs of the knife aren't directly comparable based on what an instructor or surgeon might charge. The entertainment industry is all about image (and not just physical appearance). Hard work and talent "look" better to the target population than do nosejobs or tummy tucks. In the nearly-saturated Korean market, part of being successful is to appear genuine. And if one must choose between augmented skills or augmented breasts, it is easy to see the wise businessman preferring the former to the later.
