I scanned over the brief descriptions and quikly delegated the majority into the mental trashcan/abyss of my mind, except for 1 that seems to stand out. [C] The money of soul and possibillity of control. Show nested quote +The Japanese government was rescued from the brink of financial collapse by the sovereign wealth fund. For it's citizens however, life has not improved, and unemployment, crime, suicide and despair are rampant. Kimimaro, raised by his maternal grandfater after the dissapearance of his father and the death of his mother, is a scholar student whose only dream is to avoid all this and live a stable life. One day however he meets a man who offers him a large sum of money if he'll agree to pay it back. From then on his fate is radically changed as he's drawn into a myserious area known as the financial district. I dare not say that it's going to be a new hit or even that it's going to be decent but the description seemed intresting enough. Ofcourse it can always be quikly strangled to death with the addition of cliche characters and making the aim of the show about high school life, but atleast this show has the premise going for it. Surpising that out of 40 shows only 1 seems to have a premise that grabs my attention. I am hoping for something dark and realistic, but we shall see how that pans out on April 14. If it's the next Death Note or FMA, i called it! If there's something I've learned from charts, it's that judging a show by it's premise is unreliable at best. Besides, how can you say Moshidora doesn't show promise? I mean, when was the last time you saw a show based on Drucker's mangament theories? The LN got a review in The Economist for crying out loud. And no comment on Kaiji s2? You're just not looking hard enough.

Hm, GoSick and Naruto still was released this week. Guess I still have a little something something to watch.

I don't think it's unfair to judge a show on a picture and a short summary. The summary combined with a single picture can often tell you more then enough on the direction the show will be going.
Now ofcourse, anything can be made intresting if produced well, think about Hikaru no Go, show that at it's premise should be mind-numbingly boring but turned out to be very intresting to watch.
I don't consider Moshidora all that intresting for two reason. First i am not really looking for a slice of life anime.
Second, i am not convinced that it can avoid the stereotypes of slice of life. I am not strictly against slice of life shows but so many are literally just that, a slice of life. I need something more if i want to watch those kinds of shows, but they very rarely manage to draw me in.
Kaiji might be intresting, but it's 2nd series and i never watched the first.
But again i do not believe it's wrong to judge on a short text and a picture. Truth be told i think you can judge most shows on a single picture.
Take for example the show left to Kaiji:
Short skirts, ripped clothing, above average focus on boobs, you know where that show is going just by looking at it.
Every season of anime has dozens of new shows, the majority of wich are utter trash imo, at times there aren't even any shows worth watching. You need to develop a quik sense of judgement for anime if you don't want to waste many hours on watching initial episodes.
If i happen to miss a gem because both the description and picture had put me off then it will in most cases drift back up and i will notice the show as it gets frequently mentioned in anime topics such as this one, but i can't recall ever having missed a show in that way.
I mostly enjoy Anime for it's ability to produce completly unique concepts and produce storylines that really make you go "that's clever". Full Metal Alchemist (version 1) for example is a show that i consider one of the best shows i have ever seen, above many live-action shows with a bigger funding.
I just don't think Anime is very likely to succeed if it produces shows that could just as easily be live-action series. To me, Anime should be a frontier for low-cost productions that allow very original ideas to be pitched, but at times i feel like the low-cost only makes the medium more likely to be turned into glorified commercials.

Haha, I guess I'm better off than you because, aside from [C], Hyouge Mono sparked my interest as well...and Kaiji but I still need to watch the first season. Normally, I'm the one who is least interested in the new anime and this is pretty much the first time that I can be somewhat happy
|
Only show i'm really looking forward to is TWGOK season 2
Also I'm in the camp that the picture + synopsis is not enough to judge.
Every time I choose 3 that I'll start. I usually only get 1/3 to finish, and then pick up two more based on general consensus.

I'm going to try a ton of the shows from this up coming season, but I'm sure it'll get slimmed down fairly quickly.

"They're like channels. Do you watch TV?" "Well, yes -- why?" "TVs. You know, peoples' brains are like TV channels. What channel do you usually watch on a daily basis?" "... Hmm, probably Channel 8." "Then that's the 'best' channel. Let's imagine there are 12 channels in a human brain. You and I, our brains are always locked onto Channel 8... the most watched shows are there. There are other channels, of course, but we can't see them. We're just watching the most watched shows, or you could say, the most normal. We live in that normalcy, and so our life is essentially Channel 8. If you get what I mean?" "Do you mean we're watching the shows that are the most neutral?" "No, no. Just the best. The 21st century's normalcy, the most watched channel, the 'best laws' are in Channel 8. We're able to live here, so that's the best for us. We live in normalcy, are protected by normalcy, and thus are able to think in normalcy." "I see, so other channels aren't peaceful?" "Who knows. For instance, channel 3 people might be able to speak to plants, instead of being able to speak to other people. For instance, channel 4 peoples' brain waves might move things outside their body, instead of moving their own bodies. It's incredible if you have these channels. But, the normalcy from Channel 8 doesn't exist there. Those channels have their own unique "shows" (rules). And, everyone living in the now use Channel 8, so there's almost no way someone from Channel 4 can live in the Channel 8 society. Those other channels don't know the Channel 8 normalcy, after all." "-- then people who don't have Channel 8 become psychotics?" "Yes. For instance there may be someone who only has Channel 3, so they can speak to plants but not to people. As a result, society will label them a psychotic and imprison them in a hospital. ESPers are like that. They don't have the common channel, they have a different channel. But most ESPers actually have both Channel 8 and Channel 4. They're just channels, so they can switch at will, you know? When you're watching Channel 4, you're not watching Channel 8. When you're watching Channel 8, you're not watching Channel 4. ESPers who live among us just switch back and forth. That's why no one can really dig them out that easily." "I see, so -- people with only Channel 4 are being deviants. No, not even, they just don't have "normalcy" to begin with." "That's right. Society calls those people serial killers or psychos but I call them "Incompatible Existences." There are plenty of people who struggle to conform to society, but their whole existence is incompatible. They can't, no, shouldn't exist. For instance. What if there's someone who has Channel 8 and Channel 4, but for some reason has his physical abilities disables and he can't return to the normal Channel? He's done for. Even if he lived normally all that time, without being able to return to our channel, we'll never be able to see eye-to-eye on issues again. We're on different wavelengths." "... then, is there a way to make Incompatible Existences compatible?" "Hmm, end their life? If you want to be specific, if you can destroy the noncompliant channel. But that means destroying their brain. So all you can do is kill them. There's no wonderful technology that can destroy a part of a brain without destroying their body, at least not yet. You know, if we did, that's an ESPer-like power on its own. Maybe something like the most powerful Channel 12. That channel can do whatever it wants." Ahahah, laughed the professor. "... thank you for the explanation. By the way, professor. Is bending a spoon the most popular ESPer?" "Hmm? Spoons bend?" "I'm not sure about spoons, but a human arm at least" "You mean an adult arm, like yours? That's, pretty amazing. The problem with "bending" isn't so much the object's toughness but rather its size. It would take like seven days to bend a human arm. So, which way was it bending? Right, left?" "-- does that even matter?" "Totally. It's a matter of force. Even the Earth rotates in one direction. What, it's not fixed? ... hmm, is that an actual power? Then stay away. There're at least two powers at work, that Incompatible Existence. Left and right rotation. They're probably using both at the same time. I've never heard of a case where they have, much less can simultaneously use, two channels. If 001 and 002 combined, even a 009 will lose."

Dang I've listened to the Bakemonogatari OPs to death now. Renai Circulation, Staple Stable, Sugar Sweet Nightmare, Kimi ga Shiranai Monogatari are all gold! How is it possible for one anime to spawn so many great songs?
I don't really like Hachikuji's song though lol.

Then everyone on their team gets murdered by some like high school girl. End of episode. WTF.
I'm so confused. But hooked. @_@

Yeah, the manga is horrible, but at least it's not required to enjoy the great anime. But you are right that it has one of the best first episodes ever. :D

First episode was the biggest troll that I saw ever. It had a big axe and it cleaved off my head with one fell swoop.

I mean, the tone of the manga is nothing like what they had in the show. How do these things happen?
Started reading Usagi Drop. The story is pretty nice, but my god this art is bad.

Well the anime is a prequel to the Manga. After the anime was released, the tone of the manga changed drastically, and started getting more like the anime.
But yeah, Ga Rei Zero's first episode was the best first episode ever haha. Such a good anime. The best anime Caffeine_free ever recommended me.
