So...did Juu...really die? I saw it coming as soon as Shiraishi walked up behind him, but still...
If so, WTF?! This was like, one of the most awesome series that I have ever seen. The characters are all cool. The mysteries are fucking awesome. And the villains are well-written too. And it's only two episodes. That's all? I'm so pissed ;_;
Definite 10/10 though. Holy shit.
Er, did you watch all the way to the end? It's pretty clear what happens, especially from the characters' comments. + Show Spoiler [Ending summany] +
Just going from memory:
Juu is pushed onto the road so his happiness points can be stolen. Next scene is Ame crying over Juu. Car/truck is shown smashed into the wall. A blood smear (possibly a hand? Can't remember) is visible.
Cue comment about karma really existing or something to that effect.
This is sufficient information to assume that car swerved and struck Kaori.

Yeah, she pushed Juu onto the road. So maybe the truck swerved and avoided him and hit the girl instead (I know it hit the girl, but I guess that's just how it happened)? The maid girl did say that "divine retribution did a good job this time" or something like that, but I guess it makes sense.
But still. How could you just have two episodes of this T_T
Edit: They look so different...I wonder who drew them this time.

I will admit that Kurenai has some pretty good dialogue though. Not Bakemono good, but still.
Anyway, if you liked this series, you should read Shinigami-sama ni Saigo no Onegai wo because it's also pretty good with the crazy/denpa stuff.
Edit: Random thought - what's the probability that Yosuga no Sora gets OVAs for class rep and the shop lady?
Been looking around on PD for a few days ever since you reminded me and not finding anything, this blows.
Kure-nai needs to be on Bake level in order for me to even consider having that over Denpa. It isn't. Therefore the author needs to get back on the better series.
Also, OVA ep2 suggested that they might do vol2 of novels (ep1 was vol 1, ep2 was vol3) because the event that's covered there was briefly mentioned again.

The start is incredibly weird. But then awesome happens, so it's okay.
Are there any other animes/mangas that are like Nodame Cantabile in that it focuses on classical music/being in an orchestra? Not just "it has classical music," but like the plot is actually about it.
So basically the whole robot thing is some screwed up perpetual cycle of alternate world destruction. What the heck.
Honda's story was horribly fucked up. I mean seriously. First we learn about the sexual abuse. Then she goes on a rampage and murders thousands of people. I still liked her because she killed Kako though (what a bastard). Nakarai's story was on the verge of being really screwed up as well, but at least it got averted at the last second.
Ushiro was a strange case. I started off hating him because of the whole thing wiht beating Kana. But then he got better as the series progressed due to help from some of the other characters and he somehow ended up becoming one of my favorites. Machi and Ushiro had some nice moments together as well. It was a nice change of pace. BUT NO, NO HAPPY ENDINGS ALLOWED. Sigh.
Kana was such a good sister it was painful to watch.
Gonna finish up Fate/Zero now. Happy fun times all around. T_T
lol KnK 3. I made the mistake of watching that at school and had to alt+f4 quickly. <_<
Same artistic style as Bake? Look at anything else done by Shaft. Maybe Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei? Tatami Galaxy? I'm not really sure what to recommend - Bake's pretty unique.

I daresay nothing that features the extent of classical music displayed in Nodame Cantabile, unfortunately
The closest one I'm aware of La Corda D'oro, but personally I hated it. But this is coming from a music graduate so your standards may be lower. Apart from that, I wouldn't know any other animes with a decent classical music theme.
-HOLY FUCK! Marida is one of the cloned Purus? Didn't see that coming... -I feel like a terrible person now, for turning my entire crew from gundam generation games into artificial newtypes, if they weren't already natural newtypes. Sorry guys, newtypes are just too good. -The more I stare at Unicorn's shield during NT-D, the more it looks like gundam X's divider. Can't seem to get that out of my head. -Speaking of lookalikes, Daguza reminds me of Guiles from Street Fighters... >_< RIP.

Really? I was told that ep 2 basically covered volumes 2 and 3; they just left out some more scenes with Ame's sister or something.

Whoever told you that is wrong, ep2 only covered vol 3. Well, technically, we were introduced to Yukihime and Madoka in vol 2, but that's about the only thing from vol 2.
lol rakkyo ep3, I read the book so knew more or less what to expect, then I see the scenes anyway and go wtf we doing this for real?

Which is why I wonder what they'll do for the Sakura scenes. <_<
Done Fate/Zero. Except for that one untranslated epilogue part. + Show Spoiler +
I almost feel like the fourth novel cheated us out of a bunch of good fights. It was all in the name of character development though, so I suppose I can live with that.
lol Maiya was totally useless.
Alexander was simply too awesome. First, he makes a man out of Waver. Second, he earns the respect of Gilgamesh, of all people. What a guy.
Saber... I didn't really like her in FSN, and Fate/Zero didn't really help. Just like in FSN, her goals is to get the grail so that she can correct the actions in her past life since as the perfect king, she basically had to ignore the feelings and desires of many people for the good of the kingdom. And to this end, she kills Berserker despite how she's wronged him before just because he stands between her and the grail. In general, I've always felt that her wish is kind of a cop out, as if she's avoiding taking responsibility for her actions in the past.
Incidentally, in the span of four short novels, Kiritsugu did what a certain unnamed adopted son never had to do in three entire visual novel routes - come to terms with how terrible his ideals are. Kiritsugu was willing to sacrifice everything, even the ones he loved, for the sake of a conflict-less world. And then Angra Mainyu basically throws all that in his face and makes him realize how monstrous his actions are. And this basically kills him as a person until he finds his redemption in the form of Shirou. This was the best part of Fate/Zero, imo.
In other news, translation of Shakugan no Shana has apparently restarted. Also, Beasts's Lair has been shutdown for violating ToS since their site possessed eroge content. Hopefully it's only temporary...
What sites do you guys use for DDL? Can you tell what resolution you'll be downloading in, prior to DLing (obviously from a list, not from a news post)? What are the normal, standard sizes(like ex. 233MB or 1GB) for 1 episode in 720p, 1080p and 480p? What resolution is the most commonly used for anime?
In addition to torreting during the night, I started to DDL with jdownloader. I started with Baccano! from animetake and had to browse their forums to find out if their DDLs are 720p or 480. They turned out to be 720p so I'm DLing. 1 episode is about 223MB. Is that about right for a ~25min anime with 720p resolution? [Ayu-anime] subgroup if it matters.
Another wierd things is - I'm getting 5-10-20 kb/s with megaupload, but when I choose fileserve or zomgupload, I get 50-200 kb/s O.O the fuck is up with MU for me?
I'm keeping an eye out fr F/Z's last chapter (more like epilogue) and a PDF file D;

a) I don't use DDL, no idea. b) Depends on the site. Good sites should list the subbing group, resolution and other information (for example if it is a BD, DVD or TV source) c) There are no standard sizes, it depends entirely on the encode and the source material. I would say that 233 MB sounds like a high quality 480p file. 720p is usually around 350 to 500 MB, while 1080p is around 800 MB to 1 GB per episode. You can add half of that again (at minimum) if the file is using dual audio. d) Modern TV shows and releases are usually 720p, older stuff in 480p. With DVD/BD releases it depends on the source material and the video quality. e) My 480p DVD release of Baccano! (by Ayu) is exactly 233 MB. Are you sure that it is a 720p release? f) No idea.

First thing: Amazon.com has figures. Amazon.co.uk doesn't. Second thing: All the good/well made/nice figures are always ALWAYS on backorder/out of stock/preorder closed. FML threefold. Third thing: Online shops (mostly american ones) don't want to ship to Europe.
The prices range from like 40$ to 200$ and sometimes the 40$ ones look 10x better than the 200$ ones.
Do you guys buy figures? Would buying a figure classify me as an otaku? D: If you buy them, where from? Got any suggestions where I can acquire 1 or more with shipping to EU?
On March 12 2011 07:26 Latham wrote: Well the highest I saw was 189.00$ USD(was some limited edition, I think...) and if you add shipping it'll probably add 20+ more.
Is there any difference between figures and figurines? As I googled around both, google didn't seem to make a distinction between the two.
Seems like figurines are released on commemorative occasions. Like the UBW Rin Tohsaka figurine or the Ghost in the Shell: Major Kusonagi Motoko 2nd GIG figure for their respective shows and if you're not a fan at that time and know, you're fucked for all eternity.
For stores, I'd recommend Hobby Search[1], Hobby Link Japan[2] and AmiAmi[3]. AFAIK they all ship worldwide. Amazon.jp does carry figures, but they do not ship overseas; same for software and other items. Some proxy services like Tokyo Hunter[4] and Big In Japan[5] also help with exclusive releases.
As you noticed the figure market is heavily driven by preorders; I guess it keeps the market fresh and prevents overstock flooding. Most popular/high quality figures sell out on preorder, and if the figure is out for more than a month it can be pretty hard to find. Companies do make re-releases every so and then, but once stores are sold out, your other choice is auctions[6] or second hand stores like Mandarake[7] (they do ship overseas). For auctions you need the help of a proxy service. Celga[8] is my main, and someone mentioned Tenso[9].
Price is driven by many factors: quality and complexity, material, scale, etc. Figures from the S-class brands (Alter[10], Max Factory[11] and Good Smile Company[12]) are in the expensive side, not only because of higher QC standards, but they also have more intrincate designs and big accessories (Alter is pretty good at this[13][14]). Resin and ABS is more expensive than PVC. Bigger figures (1/6 and 1/4) tend to be more expensive than standard sized figures (1/8).
The standard price nowadays for PVC is in the 6500–8000 yen, with smaller/simpler figures on the 4500–6000 range and larger/more complex figures on the 9000+ range. Alter's catalogue can give you a good idea. Aftermarket price can vary a lot depending on the case. Some figures become cheaper, other multiply in their prize. It all depends on supply and demand. Resin kits are a whole different story, so I'll skip.
I do buy figures. Otaku? I don't think it will make you more of an otaku than watching anime and discussing it in a Starcraft forum. I learned the hard way to keep my hobby separate from other things of my life, but its all really up to you. I buy primarily from HobbySearch, exclusives from Celga/Tokyo Hunter and auctions as backup when necessary. Pretty sure the stores I mentioned ship to EU, and Hobby Search and AmiAmi allow combining preorders up to a month. If shipping cost is an issue, try SAL instead of EMS.
"Figure" and "figure" are used interchangeably. I prefer the term "figure" myself.
UBW Rin is a standard release by Good Smile[15]. Preorder is closed, so be on the lookout when its released in May. Its not that figures are commemorative but rather they make sure to release things related to popular shows and franchises.
