To me that particular example was more one where the author didn't really think through the villain's powers before letting the protagonist follow a formulaic method of beating villains. If what you have counts, then every time anyone has ever gotten lucky in literature, it is plot armor. To me, plot armor is more like something that goes against the grain of the book to let something specific happen. The thing is, while the protag getting lucky may be "realistic" in that it could potentially happen (and often does, in war, etc), it always feels like a huge cop out in literature. It's like author's going "oh crap, the main character's losing! I have to fix this by creating a stupid situation where he can win". Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that MC's should always lose. It just seems that a lot of authors fail at creating victory scenarios that don't reek of laziness. To all those people who are shocked over Kanon, I wonder how you'll ever handle it should LB ever get animated? And then there is Rewrite this April. I fully expect the LB translation to finish by the end of the year. As for the F/HA translation...  | ||

Well, I think there are limitations to what an author can do. If we want to think about these carefully, the majority of them will have holes. Plot to me is a reasonable dictation of what we can accept. Plot armor would be stepping beyond those lines. As long as something doesn't make you automatically consider it a copout, it has managed to do its job. If an author can make it convincing even on a careful examination, all the better. It is just that more often than not, to make a development interesting, realism is sacrificed for dramatic value. gogo LB, make us proud, Rin2~ | ||

Sharin was the first one I had ever done and I'm (kind of) doing Clannad because it's so ungodly long and I already know the story. I'm going to start G-Sen sometime this upcoming week. | ||

I got vol 6 just now, why is it that I am finding these much easier than I am finding vol 8 of Seitokai no Ichizon or the rest of Kokoro Connect. This sucks. | ||

The K-pop thread's practically caught up to them. Maybe if I'm bored enough over spring break I'll take the time to work out some post statistics for this thread. I need a better way to parse web pages though - for the automated ban list I copy pasted all 500 odd pages for it, and that's not exactly something I want to do again. + Show Spoiler [LoGH 108] + Merkatz...
