Six hours later, I have thread stats for the first 300 pages (6000 posts): + Show Spoiler +Ecael - 712 konadora - 592 Mystlord - 295 PH - 253 FragKrag - 215 MYM.Testie - 186 Spazer - 187 triangle - 126 Shauni - 118 Southlight - 124 BrTarolg - 116 Mori600 - 115 Bearbuddy - 97 neobowman - 71 aers - 71
It took me a long time to figure out how to pull text off the web, but it works beautifully now. If you're not listed, it's because I secretly hate you haven't written the actual algorithm that counts everyone's posts, and just did it manually.
Hooray spring break.

Even if we don't get a subforum anytime soon, maybe we should put all the VN discussion into a separate thread? (The OP here still needs to be fixed.) ADT is really about everything. VNs, LNs, anime recommendations and what people are watching now, new anime seasons, manga recommendations, music, OSTs, OPs and EDs, etc. I don't think people mind. It's just the inner workings of the thread, it's how it evolved. It started out as anime and now is the general thread for just about everything, except the big 3. Besides, I don't think VNs (and LNs?) deserve their own thread. That would be just trashing up TL.net general forum more with useless threads that get bumped once every month or so >_> ADT is a bit like /a/ and a small MAL put together. I've never really seen the VN stuff in this thread as being much of an issue. After all, anime/manga/VNs are all very closely related, and if you like one of the mediums, chances are pretty good that you'll like the other two as well. In any case, any sort of common subject in this thread only tends to last a few days at most - it's not like this thread has ever had much direction.
Edit: WTF it's 6:30am. Sleep, then LoGH

Lol wow epic im famous in this thread

And Oberstein also died. In the end, I'll never really know what this guy was thinking... I think he did not make a miscalculation. He was so loyal that he wouldn't die after his Kaiser... But I guess we'll never really know.
Damn, I wish we had an epilogue. I wonder what happened to the last 2 main characters : Mittermeyer and Julian. Kircheis, Yang, Reuental, Reinhard... They were so awesome... I'll probably write a big review with a lot of top5 and special awards eventually. I think we should give ourselves 3 days to watch each movie (so the first one, "My conquest is the Sea of the Stars" for the 23rd, "Golden Wings" for the 26th, "Overture to a New War" for the 29th (EDIT : Lol, this is February. For the 1st!), then watch the Side Stories. I do not think I'll write as many comments, probably 1 every 6 episodes or so. Why are you planning on watching Golden Wings before Overture to a New War? Technically, Overture to a New War takes place right after My Conquest is the Sea of Stars. Watching Golden Wings in the middle would just break their flow. I'd recommend doing Golden Wings either first or last. First, because it "takes place" before the other two movies, or last because its the worst of the movies. Well, that I couldn't know without spoiling, obviously. But the movies were produced in this order, so I thought we could watch them in the production order. But you make a good point. We should probably do it that way then. My Conquest is the Sea of the Stars, then Overture to a New War, then Golden Wings. By Spazer's request, let's take a little break too

I don't know if I can adhere to a schedule again. While I loved the show and all, being obligated to watch two episodes everyday turned it into somewhat of a chore. : /
|
Alright then, I think we should all watch the Gaidens as we wish. The schedule annoyed me too, but it didn't affect the quality of the show so I always watched on schedule.
Also, we won't be spamming this thread anymore, which is a good thing.

A bit late on the shopping discussion ^^;;
I just had a look at Tenso. So basically they are a online store proxy service, but instead of charging you by item price, they charge you by package weight? That doesn't sound bad at all. Has anyone tried to get store exclusive figures with them? How cost efficient is it?
Other alternatives from Amazon.jp to get artbooks? I am not a fan of Kinokuniya, as I find their markup to be as offensive as Amazon.jp's shipping. Anyone remembers when they used DHL economy? It was almost EMS speed at almost SAL prices... so good T_T
For CDs and DVDs, I find Amazon.jp to be decent depending on the item and discount. Their preorder price for CDs, DVDs and BRDs can be good enough that your shipping is practically free. I ordered the Kara no Kyoukai LE R2 DVDs and with the discount, shipping was less than 1000 yen. Before the RightStuf offer, their Kara no Kyoukai BRD box price was about $100 less than CDJapan's.
Nowadays I order mostly from CDJapan because they like to include freebies like posters. HMV is another good option.

I'm just finishing Tomoyo's route and it says I shouldn't finish it until I do Toshio Koumura's which is... like literally 100hours away T_T

no you dont have to do Komura before. Those advices are mainly just for you to get good save points so that you can do 2 routes at the same time for some time.

How does the routes in fsn work exactly? It feels as if I'm playing out the anime exactly, and as soon as I try something different I end up with just a bad end scenes later... I thought there were lots of meaningful routes in this game.

FSN is built so that you have to play one route and then you start over and play another.
So for example when Berserker comes first time in first route you have to fight. In second playthrough when you fight you die, so you run instead

The first route is the anime with several minor differences. ctrl through that stuff.
As Raelgar said, the order in which you play the routes is preset - only after you finish Fate can you play UBW, and only after you finish UBW can you play HF. The game would be really confusing if it were played in any other order.
Anyway, if you don't really care about bad ends and just want to see the story, use the flowchart.

There are three routes and they branch really early if I remember correctly. You have to play the original route first and then, the next playthrough, you can enter the second one. At some point, you will get an additional choice which will bring you on the respective route. Ex: The first time, when Archer and Rin are in front of your house, it will auto-pick your choice. The second time(after completing the first route), you can use a command spell to call Saber back which will result in Archer not getting hurt and so on. Some choices have no influence whatsoever, some choices lead to bad ends though.
I hope that is what you wanted to know. I'm kind of tired at the moment

oh, that's a bit surprising... So I'll actually have to finish it once and play it again in order to make anything different. Isn't that a bit strange? So the choices you make have absolutely no significance except sometimes leading to a bad ending? Why do everyone say that the game is a hundred times better than the anime if it's just the same thing? (And I actually liked the anime soundtrack more!) I haven't noticed any major differences and I've played for like 10 hours...

Only the first route is the same, the second and third one are completely different + they have two different endings. That's good enough and, personally, I liked the VN a lot more. It just had a better feeling than the anime and...hm, I don't know Also, the VN openings are just too good.

Did any VN turned anime do good? I was under the impression that every anime made from a VN was a total and utter failure compared to the original VN.

Other than Clannad?
I vaguely recall of having discussed that with Southlight once on a tangent, let me ask him later to see if he recalls our conclusion.

But basically the other 2 routes you get (or rather, 1, since UBW has movie version) is much better than Fate in terms of quality.

Well, one of the best thing about Tenso is that the forwarding location is in Japan and you get to do all the actual shopping yourself. So as long as you have proper designations and can somehow buy the item, you can ship it out.
Kinokuniya's markup is actually quite decent when it comes to a small amount of items. A 50% markup for request service when you only want one book that costs $8 is pretty cheap to get around the shipping with. DHL economy was really damned good while it lasted though.
RightStuf offer for Rakkyo BD was an irregularity, before that weird offer Amazon was blowing everyone out of the water. The scary thing with Amazon is that it offers prices as competitive as specialized stores (often winning, even) when it comes to these items. But yeah, CDJapan is useful for a cd here and there, for a whole set of dvds or for figures you will really see the difference in price.
I am mostly use amazon.co.jp+Tenso atm since I am combining each shipment with a few people.

The only major difference from the anime for the first route is that caster is retarded in a slightly different (and more boring) way. I can't think of anything else you could possibly miss other than h-scenes.
