It has been on my ptw forever (i.e. before it even came out). After the first reviews rolled in, I kinda lost interest. The "from the minds behind Ergo Proxy" line seems missleading as the two don't seem to have much in common beyond having a sci-fi setting. What would you compare it to? I binged SEL on a weekend but I took a break after every episode because all kinds of thoughts about it were cruising through my head, pondering the questions, trying to piece things together. It's one of the rare series that leaves you with more questions after every episode but it still gave me faith it would make sense in the end. And then episode 9 rolled around and things really started to come together and I knew it had been right to have faith. In the end tied up the correct loose ends to make it satisfying while leaving enough room for interpretation. Such a great show. Texhnolyze is much more brutal and rough and I feel the focus of the show is different than SEL, which is much more minimalistic and focussed on the mystery? Not saying Texhnolyze isn't fantastic, I just feel like for mostly different reasons than SEL is?

While you watch you just keep wondering if the narration is reliable, or if it's Lain herself and I think that's exactly what they wanted to do. Blending the medium to misdirct your senses to a point where you start to question your own sense of distinguishing left from right and up from down. I love that kind of media.

It is a relatively slow burn with lots of psychological and philosophical topics. I guess that if you liked the shows like Ergo Proxy, Psycho Pass, GITS, Parasite Dolls and Patlabor you'll also enjoy this one. I think Patlabor would be the closest with not being as futuristic, more down to earth near future sci-fi slow burn investigation. Also, I never said Texhnolyze is similar to SEL, just that it was done by the same people. It is another show that doesn't really follow the standard formula.

And yeah, I know you never said that but it can easily be read as being implied, even if you didn't, no? Hence I wanted to chime in and just add that it depends on what you enjoyed about either show. In general I would agree that there is a good chance that you enjoy Texhonlyze if you enjoey SEL. I looked through the new shows and there are quite a few (more than usual) I found somewhat interesting at first glance but eventually I couldn't even bring myself to put most of them on my ptw to remind myself to give the first episode a go when they come out. Idk why... The only show I put on my ptw is Mononoke Journal, because even though the synopsis sounded sketchy, the trailer had decent vibes.

Chi. + Show Spoiler + I liked the idea to have the story spread over a longer time period with main characters being axed frequently. However, the execution of that idea was not ideal at all. Randomly interrupting the current story with 10 minute flashbacks to "really get to know" a new character and make them "more interesting" really plagued this series. You know you can develop a character by their current actions and make them interesting? If you feel the need for some backstory that actually matters for the current plot, you can splice it into the current story, make it feel like a part of the current timeline. Random background stories do not make me care about a character I didn't care about before. The best example of this were the last couple of episode that literally spent most of the time on a flashback to a character that was newly introduced at the end of ep 23. Then the story was over. What a waste. Had to get that of my chest because I cannot stand this stuff anymore. It's so cheap, overused and makes it really annoying to watch, which is a shame because I actually enjoyed the rest of the show, especially a lot of the conversations. Ao no Hako + Show Spoiler + I said this before but this show really surprised me. The internal dialogue of the characters, handling of emotions, interactions between characters...it was all so well done and really refreshing. However, in the second half the show spent way to much time focussing on Hina and the "love triangle". It neglected most of the things that made it stand out and instead applied the usual bait and switch formular I'm enormously tired of, including all the usual "missunderstandings" you could think of... By episode 24 I was actually caught off-guard when Taiki actually pushed through Hina's attempts to silence him trying to reject her. This honestly should have happened around episode 18 and the time wasted on this BS could have been spend on a) Hina's handling of the rejection and b) developing Chinatsu's character, which was criminally neglected for most of the second half of the show. In the end, episode 25 was handled incredibly well. It left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth though because it now ended on a cliff-hanger (Taiki and Chinatsu going on their first date). I hope there will be a second season though (fingers crossed). Now that the biggest problem weighing the show down is out of the way, it should only be great going forward. Blue box was really good too although i feel it lost some something by the last third of the series. i guess it will have a 2nd season but i can see it ending like this too. 7/10 im also watching the new Rurouni Kenshin, so far is kind of good although i still prefer the og series. But if this remake means we can get the Enishi Arc i cant complaint.

I would have hated it if it ended with how s1 ended.

Finally caught up. + Show Spoiler [Blue Box] + I hated the second cour. The most frustrating thing about Hina's confession is how the resolution was effectively delayed for no reason. It was very obviously doomed from the start, and made it feel like the only reason it happened at all was to give Chinatsu a reason to finally confront her own feelings. And even then, they barely did anything with Chinatsu, so what was the point of all that stuff in between? You could have cut the entire play and lost nothing, and the meandering really soured me on a lot of characters. It basically got to the point where I'm purely cheering for side characters because I now dislike all the mains. Ep 24 was good because things actually moved. It just came about 10 episodes too late.

Premise: dumb Animation: terrible Fight scenes: probably the worst you've ever seen Plot: barely any Characters: awesome Wholesomeness: through the roof One of those shows that are pretty bad but all the goofiness actually adds some charm to it and overall it turns out just great lighthearted fun. I'm not entirely sure what lured me in to this series (I thought I'll just drop it after 1 episode but after seeing this one episode I just kept going) but I guess it was funny way of breaking some anime tropes (the MC bedded three women by episode 3) and all the little details they sprinkle in (like some characters drugging the MC before the battle so he doesn't lose his mind because he hasn't seen combat or dead people before). It's hard to pinpoint exactly why it's so enjoyable but if you're looking for a light show that's just simple fun to keep you entertained you don't have to look any further.

From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman (Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru) - basically a much worse version of Ossan Adventurer. It's moving at a snail's pace and nothing really interesting is going on there, which is a pity because I've had high hopes for this one. Please Put Them On, Takamine-san (Haite Kudasai, Takamine-san) - I'm not really sure why I even started watching this. Don't bother unless you have some humiliation and lingerie fetishes. Yandere Dark Elf: She Chased Me All the Way From Another World! (Chotto dake Ai ga Omoi Dark Elf ga Isekai kara Oikaketekita) - couldn't really stand even a single episode of this.
