at least Kyon sometimes know how to woo the laadies I have a feeling that you don't quite understand 8man tbh. Pls 8man is fucking toxic. He could just pick Yukinon and stop his whorish ways but no he has to lead them all on and let her suffer. Suffering is moe Not sure how this is a thing but it seems to be the popular sentiment. That said, how is Yukinon's suffering 8man's fault? If anything, I'm pretty sure Yukinon's suffering is largely Yukinon's fault. zz o/
are you saying you can't empathize with someone who is suffering

Empathy /= Moe. Saying suffering is moe is the opposite of empathy because it implies that you find the suffering of others to be cute and pleasing.

Moe is just cute or adorable. Some dude writing a "paper" saying it's feeling of protection doesn't make it so lol. Dam is that what a paper goes for in his circle. A tiny 3 line abstract, no glossary or nomenclature and then just a wall of text without breaks or sub-headings. Too used to engineering/science papers I guess.
edit: Oh this was even undergrad not postgrad work.

Moe is love Moe is life
Yeah moe is pretty much seeing and appreciating something cute/adorable.

This is how it is used in 2ch. I would assume jps know their language better than anyone else.

That means that what we describe as "moe" anime isn't actually moe anime but instead any anime where you have a feeling of wanting to protect a character would make that character moe. Which is completely different to how moe is used by everyone in the west. In your instance when I'm watching FMA and desperately want Hawkeye to not get hurt that means Hawkeye is a moe character does it not? This is different to when I'm say watching Yuru Yuri where there's no danger, no feeling of protection but instead just character being adorable. That anime then wouldn't be a Moe anime at all?

Not a fan of the term 'moe'. Or 'waifu' for matter. ;;

I though moe was when your heart goes waku waku doki doki

While I don't doubt this, that's the same as assuming all American's (US/CA/UK/whoever else you want to include) know how to use the English language when they type online, and we know that's not true either.

I hate Moeshit. "ready for bashing"

Afaik, the original usage of moe from 2ch is pretty much something along the lines of helplessness/cute at the same time, like a turtle that got itself flipped upside down and is trying to get back on its feet.
Nowadays it's pretty much used as another word for cute/adorable specific to the culture sorrounding anime, even by the japanese. I mean hell, watch how it's used in shirobako, whenever the director talked about moe but he definitely wasn't talking about characters that gave the viewer a feeling of them needing protection or something like that, it was pretty much used as a synonym for cute.
Edit: That reminds me that moe was a banned word when they were working on psycho pass, supposedly. + Show Spoiler +

lol sent, n1.
I finished up Yurikuma now so this season is now complete. Here's my overview about the shows that finished this season:
Completed
- Death Parade 8/10 - Rolling Girls 7/10 - Yurikuma Arashi 3/10 - Shigatsu 5/10 - Aldnoah.Zero #2 3/10
Dropped
- AssClass 3/10 - KanColle 2/10 - Shirobako 5/10
On Hold/Plan to watch in one go
- Parasyte - Akatsuki no Yona - Nanatsu
After I finished up 2 shows with 3/10 this season (and to be honest, Yurikuma was only saved by its last 3 episodes), I think I'm done with forcing myself to watch bad shows for a while now. Next season I will definitely drop everything that doesn't convince me that it might end up being decent overall.
