The political divisions within Japan, the stones that grant powers, a company secretly buying them up (whose president has an alien she told was her daughter?), some event with the full moon. Adding in a ET go home scenario seems rather out of place, despite them showing that there is clearly something different about the girl. Hence the "wtf" reaction to the alien angle. | ||

Its like they just set up the initial part of the show just as an excuse to have every location they visit be a theme town for them to show off quirky things before they decided to get to the real plot which has almost nothing to do with the former. | ||

The former is social commentary / satire that is only interesting if you actually know about what each city / prefecture in japan is like. Lots of people write off that part cause westerners don't really know much about japan (which is okay). | ||
