Dude I had to be suuuperr high to sit through that back when... frankly the movie lets you draw what you want from it. It doesnt feed you anything except a depressing ass facade and characters that offer very very few lighthearted moments. And yeah its slammed with allegory and christian symbolism. Not sure if i recall any other religion in there but I dont remember it that well. At the end of it though everyone i I saw it with including me (alot of them dont even watch anime) were left scratching their heads. It is definately not for everyone. I disagree. I think there's a pretty discernible message/storyline that the anime is trying to portray, and a lot of other things are cursory. CSheep and I watched it and we both came to relatively similar conclusions. B-but! ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/dB8ZoLa.jpg) All joking aside, while I have not seen Angel's Egg, Oshii's films do tend to be very thematically on point. After all, his films in generally tend to be thematic symbolism first, and everything else second. I haven't seen a single one yet that I'd describe as "dart-board symbolism" or "you can draw what you want from it". Since of all the ones I've seen, Oshii knows what he wants you to draw from it, and he will beat that into your skull with talking heads until either you get it, or the movie ends. ROFL this is awesome.

Except Angel's egg doesnt have talking heads beating any points into you iirc, nor is the plot particularly obtuse. Its pretty straightforward. Everything else sorta/kinda checks out thought. And if you havent seen it I would avoid talking about it and stick to robots, I havent seen Patlabor so i dont feel it my place to talk about it for example.
And ZNF, Just because one of your friends agreed with you and a bunch of mine disagree amongst themselves I suppose can be taken as overwhelming evidence that either one of us is correct. + Show Spoiler +
What do you believe was the discernible story line and what was he trying to say. Spoiler it if you will. I'd like to hear your conclusion.
+ Show Spoiler +For me personally, the whole point of the movie was that the meaning was hidden in the details and whatever struck you you picked up and drew from.
The less obvious ones being something even as mundane as the fact that those shadow ghost fisherman thingies keep whiffing at their shadow ghost fish, You could draw sooo many meanings from just these alone and no one can claim they got it imo.
Someone I know mentioned that he read somewhere, the movie was pretty personal for him struggling with faith and such and Oshii literally just regurgitated everything that was swirling through his head. Its deefffinately not his most polished exercise in film making as far as the theme's or the point is concerned.
Everything else seemed way more organized and deliberate; the animation, the music, the haunting imagery etc etc etc, Which is also its charm i suppose. It may even have been deliberate. But its not like the themes flowed either. You had all sorts of concepts and ideas mushed in which is why eventually alot of people trying to make sense of it just ended up passing it off as pretentious allegory and symboism for the sake of it.

I'm hoping the really good sales results in us getting the next 2 cours that were originally planned.

man i didn't think boats was gonna be this good. Thanks to whoever convinced me to pick it up (i don't really remember who it was). + Show Spoiler [boats] +When they said Fubuki was being sent back to the naval district my first thought was "man they really have faith in her...she's the one they want at home protecting everything when their lines are so thin" which was somewhat correct (the order was just too late to make a difference)...turns out she's gonna get remodeled and probably be super badass.
Shirobako was great as always. my girl Ema had some good parts. and about zuka, + Show Spoiler +i actually like that she cut Aoi off...it shows her integrity....however in the real world networking like that is extremely important and would have probably lead to her landing some roles but w/e. classy move regardless.

Yeah, I'm kind of torn on that whole bit. Like, it's cool that she seems to have found her confidence and center, but c'mon girl.

do you mean anime about classic music? or classic anime about music? there's a difference ![](/mirror/smilies/puh2.gif)

Tokyo Ghoul + Show Spoiler +Yeah, maybe. But the thing I don't get is that since Mr. Anteiku is also the Owl that means he was running Aogiri tree too, right? Unless I missed something. So, I don't really get his motivation. I remember earlier on thinking that he might be the Owl but it just didn't make any sense.
And what happened to the whole about those two sisters who turned into ghouls? I liked their interactions with Juzo or whatever the crazy kid's name is.
