Ezekiel having a lot of inner conflict and that Galfa guy I used think was a pretty OK guy but he keeps sliding further and further to the evil side and this episode pretty much cemented it. Now hes probably going to irrationally blame Maria for everything and become manic in his mission to kill Maria. Probably going to lead to Joseph killing his 1st person fighting him.

Galfa is becoming evil? I disagree. Galfa is the only main character who acts remotely human.

What's so irrational about blaming Maria? The man makes a living as a mercenary - he's not going to get paid unless he can do his job. The latest battle in particular was progressing smoothly until Maria butted in and fucked things up. She's an impediment to his career (and judging from her behaviour, she will continue to be one in the future), so her removal is desirable to him. That the matter will result in personal gain through the bishop is merely a benefit.

As for killing his superior, it's a question of survival. His commander is basically going to kick him out of the unit without pay, or worse. Before his duel, Galfa stated that he can't run (for whatever reason). It's likely that he has nowhere to go. What does he have to lose by killing his superior? Absolutely nothing. Is it a morally reprehensible action? Sure! But he can't survive on morals alone.

Besides, the occurance of fragging is a time-honored tradition in wars of all kinds!

Maria is stubborn to the point of utter stupidity. She's been questioned time and time again about her motives for preventing war. Hell, the previous six episodes were practically dedicated to examining why her efforts are futile. What happens to mercenaries when there is no war? Well gee, if you have bands of armed, jobless men wandering around the countryside, they start pillaging villages. What is Maria going to do about all the battles that she can't respond to in time? Absolutely nothing. Hell, what's the point of stopping a battle in the first place? People don't wage wars for fun. There's always always a motive, and Maria doesn't do anything to address that.

And ultimately, how does she respond to these arguments? I HATE WAR. I'LL DO WHAT I WANT BY MYSELF. That doesn't even come close to being an acceptable answer. It's fucking retarded.

Ezekiel stabbing her was inevitable. It's enough to make me question if Maria is actually suicidal, and I'm not even being sarcastic when I say that.

As for Joseph... he's apparently some paragon of purity.

I don't quite agree, his own actions is what messed things up. His unit was out of position in the fight because he convinced his commander to go seek out better loot. If his unit was in position Maria's actions wouldn't even have affected him at all since she got KO'd pretty fast and ended up doing little. The commander who ordered the cannoning even commented on it since they were counting on those mercs doing their job properly. Before this episode he was seen as a somewhat likeable dude with a little bit of loose morals (but nothing major). This episode? He fragged his commander over money (the money he eared from the bet he made from his gambling winnings on the duel). He went another step and crossed the line into straight murder. Which is why I said he was edging towards evil and you can say that murder is the "moment" where he doesn't come back from.

As for Maria, yea she is stubborn as hell and is just ignoring broader implications of her actions. Shes being selfish and is only recently even beginning to question her own standpoint.
