I agree with what you say for the most part, if I understand it correctly...I don't think my choice of words was the best.
I'm not condemning all fantasy fiction as being only fantasy and inapplicable to the real world and/or unrelatable because of its being fantasy. I've only read random bits of the Leviathan (I studied it for a class, but never read the actual book...managed through lectures, lol), so I don't know that one, but you can even look to even more entertainment-oriented fiction for thought-provoking fantasy and fiction. C.S. Lewis's Narnia series and even Tolkienn's Middle Earth and all that are playgrounds for them to explore various issues...most involving theology and more specifically, Christianity.
What I meant to say was only that most anime don't go into a whole lot of "philosophical" depth (I put it in quotations because I realize how fucking unforgivably loosely I'm using the word). Most don't venture further than the whole "existential romantic individualist" thing that every fucking movie and TV show preaches.
The Kara no Kyoukai films explored ideas and potential ethical/moral/philosophical issues raised specifically by its own plot. Its lack of grounding in reality limits the real-world applicability of the issues it deals with simply because they are not and were never meant to have parallels or be of some symbolic or metaphorical significance to anything in the real world. The films present an entertaining story with enough depth to require its own level of "intellectual" discussion for its own sake.
You can't really compare that to things like Hobbes' Leviathan, as that was inescapably and inarguably written to be a political work outlining a political philosophy Hobbes both supported and was interested in promoting.
Works based in fiction and/or fantasy are perfectly fine mediums (and in often cases are excellent mediums) with which to explore a subject, concept, issue or idea with basis and implication in the real world. That does not necessarily entail that all fiction and/or fantasy are written to explore such topics, however...and it doesn't look like to me that the Kara no Kyoukai films sought to do such a thing. That's all I was trying to point out.

Most of it here seems to be a wording issue, as we do seem to agree. I am not honestly trying to compare rakkyo to Leviathan, that's simply the first thing that came to mind (not even a really good example as you pointed out, that title haunts me). It really comes down to a minor nitpicking concerning "real world applicability" and the significance of the parallels. When it comes down to that though further argument is rather pointless lol. We agree that the films does not appear to want to deal with such a discussion, for all practical purposes, that's all that matters in this thread.
Somewhat off topic, don't read the Leviathan. I don't know how I made through that book when I was young, rereading even parts of it in core class rather sucked -.-

Going to be 20 gigs by the end of today. (Downloading School Rumble season 2. On ep 8 or so will probably finish it by today or tomorrow). + Show Spoiler +Heard it had a horrible ending but at least the journey is nice
I think I know which ones I can delete but I dunno, I always find it terribly hard to delete even shitty animes or even ones I know I won't watch again. For instance Shana should be easy to delete for me... but yet I haven't.
In the anime folder I created there is: Haruhi Honey and Clover Kannagi Minami-ke Minami Okawari Minami Okaeri Ride Back (Never started watching. It was apparently pretty good for a short series).
Then on my desktop once I realized I'd rather just have them on my desktop than in an anime folder: [Fate-Stay Night] Air Asu no Yoichi (bad harem anime. Started out funny and retarded. But got too retarded and lost its funny). Avatar (It's not anime, but it's a good show after you get past the first season). Baccano! Bleach (I hate bleach and have deleted most episodes in this folder. Prolly only about 60 eps left in there). Bounen no Xam'd Candy Boy (haven't watched this yet.) Clannad ( =]!!!) Clannad After Story ( =]!!~!~!~!~!~!~!) Code Gaess Cowboy Bebop D.Gray-man Eden of the East EF - A tale of Melodies EF - A tale of Memories Full Metal Alchemist Gundam 00 (haven't watched this yet) Gurren Lagann (so cheesy, so epic, so good and so bad all in one). It's so bad it's good. Higurashi K-On! Kanon 06 (!!!! =] ) Kara no Kyoukai Lovely Complex Mushishi Naruto (deleted all the fillers etc) Random Anime (this is a folder full of a tonne of animes I haven't gotten around to or animes I have a hard time watching: i.e. Aria). Regios (This anime shines when it doesn't take itself too seriously. Falls flat on its face when it does. Falls.. painfully). Samurai Champloo School Rumble School Rumble 2nd term + ovas Shana Skip Beat (shhhhh it's cheesy and gay but the main character was hilarious and entertaining enough for me). Spice and Wolf (Horooooo) Toradora + Show Spoiler +what a disaster of a series. Started out promising then the last episodes were so weird / rushed / a let down. + Ryuuji had some promise but ended up gay and wasn't nearly as awesome as Okazaki or Yuiichi etc. True Tears (haven't watched this yet) Valkyrie Chronicles
Then there's an anime movies folder for things that I haven't watched yet. 5cm per second girl who leapt through time (there's more but these are two I haven't watched yet that I am going to soon).
Out of all of these I think I know which ones I would delete quite easily. But it's just hard for me to delete even something I know I won't watch again.

If I HAD to delete (Man, most of them are so good, such a waste.), then I would choose EF series, Higurashi, Bleach/Naruto, Skip Beat, Air (maybe Air is just me lol)
Yeah, Toradora! + Show Spoiler +seemed very rushed in the last few episodes, the pacing was very good until like.. the last 4-5 episodes. Bleh

Toradora spoiler: + Show Spoiler +Yeah I have a lot of problems with Toradora. Like character development. Though I understand why the others weren't so developed. They were just tools to progress the main 2. Though I would have preferred it if there were more interaction and competition among Ami/Taiga etc...

It's just you, Ef, Higurashi, and Air are all popular and high rated shows :>

Toradora spoiler: + Show Spoiler +I wish they had more development on Ami and Midorin, those two had so much potential. J.C Staff should have just made Toradora! a 52-episode series =/
