Will probably pick up the novels too. If you are just looking for character interaction, sure, except there are better stuff out there anyway. Then there is the technical aspect of it that's kind of rage inducing in how bad it is, so author stops bothering with it at some point according to ragz. There are definitely things where the process and the character interaction carries the day and makes the whole thing good, spicy wolf isn't one of those. If all you want is moe furry flirting with Fukujun though, then you can watch basically where Koshimizu and Fukujun have roles that interact and get pretty much the same thing. At which point I suggest you just learn JP and listen to radio shows, because that's a lot better talking there and no need to try to fit in some subpar plot. All with nothing happening. novels are awful they go nowhere no closure and no relation development beyond what we already saw in the two anime seasons on the plus side korbo isn't anywhere near dangerously furry levels I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or you actually bit the bullet and read. Just saw the first episode of Glasslip.
+ Show Spoiler [Glasslip - 1] +This is a much slower start than Nagi no Asukara, and it already looks like it won't be as impressive unless they introduce a conflict greater than the petty love triangles. The ending of the episode and the preview for the next episode aren't exciting, either. It seems they're going for a characterization-based show, which is odd because they chose such boring/overused characters to highlight. The enthusiastic and stubborn main character; the cool and collected transfer student who challenges the views of the circle; the over-endearing, jealous, ignored guy; the jealous, obvious second; etc. And the entire group is aggressive and gives off the vibe that some inevitable shouting contests and overly dramatic conflicts (spanning about 3 or 4 episodes) will be a part of the journey.
The characters have all been done before - by the same studio - and need a lot of work to avoid just being another of "those" shows. At this point, there is no overarching story beyond "romance," and the show is entirely reliant on the unknown transfer student to move the show. Disappointing, to say the least, because it's entirely nothing new. I will be surprised if the show takes a better turn, and expect the show to be like Nagi no Asukara at best (and it's certainly not on the right track). Maybe I'm too quick to judge, but I'll take that criticism gladly.
Basically, the show has good visuals (the vignette is kind of cool), potentially interesting (yet currently very unimpressive) characters, and decent music. Those were my exact thoughts about Tari Tari and Nagi no Asukara, too; however, those had plots to go with them (of varying success), and with a bad or nonexistent plot, I'm expecting a more annoying version of Tari Tari. Here's hoping that it's just the first episode that's mediocre.

I don't think the kuudere is worse than the dutchwife was in ALO. Dutchwife was just a damsel in distress in ALO. But putting all that aside, I felt GGO was better because Kirito actually struggled somewhat in it, despite still being a "brings knife to gun fight and still wins". The level of God-mode stuff Kirito pulled off in ALO was sickening.

Might as well as judge arcs in the series solely on how shounen it can get and on the quality of the harem members being focused on. You can't stop mmojesus from being jesus anyway, pretending as if he stopped being a god doesn't change how he will still godmode everything in the end. With no meaningful process to explain it too.
Ironically Alicization probably had the best run in bringing Kirito to human levels, only for him to go doubly as god later on anyway.

if you aren't watching SAO for kirito being a god and the harem girls, why are you watching it?

I liked Alicization the most anyway, actually. If we discount the period of time when SAO was only 1 vol to me and the rest didn't exist.
I read vol 1 and was like neat, read vol 2 because supposedly short stories. At least that had a lot better emo in text form than in anime. Then I went on to read ALO because I was curious how they can keep continuing off that end. After that point I might as well as keep reading, so I read GGO and more side stories and it was all meh. Gave Alicization a try and it turned out to be refreshing, probably just because of how bad everything inbetween vol 1 and alicization was.
So we really were to look for a reason...umm, bad handling of sunk costs and curiosity made me read SAO.

How does one keep their sanity by focusing solely on how bad SAO can get? Because the harem and how god-mode Kirito can get are like the very reasons why the series turns to shit. When hes not actually stomping his way through the strongest players in the game on day 1 and shit like that, its bearable, but otherwise....

I don't mind the show but it annoys me how dam popular it is. Why does borderline garbage always manage to do so well. First Transformers and now SAO. Sigh not a good month.
|
I mean, if you want to think in those terms, there is zero reason to proceed beyond vol 1 except to torture yourself. Might as well as find some other metric for judgment.
Also GGO is where Kirito learned how to godmode the fastest. SAO he had beta experience, ALO was based off SAO and his difficulties lied mostly in learning the stuff that wasn't present in SAO. GGO was something that's supposed to actually be a bit different that he picked up and started owning people in like a week. Alicization...well, is alicization.

The concept and setting drew most people in, and the disappointment caused by the first/second volumes led people to continue reading solely to see if it were salvageable. Other than that, shounen.

First vol was definitely not a disappointment. I can hate on SAO for a lot of things, but vol 1 wasn't one of them. Not by itself.
Knowing that the series continued from there on the other hand~

SAOII: + Show Spoiler +felt weird to see Kirito and Asuna again since it's been ages since I watched SAO lol. ok episode so far. Wonder what the reason for the stopped heart attacks actually is though I can guess on that. Can't wait to see what kind of fights are planned out and the direction that they take with this :D Also, inb4 Kirito becomes rich off GGO.
Toad, I think I finally understand what you wrote about SAOII in IRC earlier today lol.
