If you didn't watch the ending, you probably shouldn't talk about Tatami Galaxy...

Tatami Galaxy is a much better visual experience than most of the anime you guys talk about on a daily basis. The character designs are simplistic and different from the commonplace anime character designs (guy who designed them never worked on another anime since) I guess but that's hardly a reason to dislike the various other things that Tatami Galaxy does better in the visual department.

Essentially main character is stuck in a time loop and then goes and finds himself.

What makes this show different from other SoL shows?

Well...for one it's actually good, lol. Like...really good. Top three anime imoimo

It's also a novel adaptation. If you watched Uchouten Kazoku, same author wrote Tatami Galaxy. I'm not sure how they adapted it, but from the translations that I've read it sounds like they took a lot of the monologues from the book itself because the "writing" (translations I guess) is much more eloquent and the narrator much more well spoken and varied in his vocabulary (to my pleb ears at least) than most of the anime that I come across.

Pretty sure they won't kill her off in such a underwhelming way. But yeah it was pretty much implied last episode if you put 2 and 2 together. I was just hoping that it hadn't happened yet or something so they would be saving the girls but nope that brat has had his fun apparently.

cool. I have yet to finish it since last year lol but you might like it

What's the main plot about? What makes this show different from other slice of life shows?

honestly, I don't really remember. Only thing I remember is that there was some guy who likes a girl and has a close devilish friend who got him into trouble. I think he had some curse or something as well. Rinse and repeat this for 4-5 episodes with different situations in each one lol. Not sure if it continued the trend after that or not. I believe znf watched and liked it or something so he would be able to provide more info on it

I would say art is the difference. As for the story, don't remember it enough to say, sorry.

wth its like we watched two different shows
from what i gathered it's about a dysfunctional college student with unrealistic expectations repeating his first 2-3 years of college over and over again, each time choosing a different path in an attempt to wash away the melancholy of his days in high school which he found incredibly unfulfilling. ultimately he falls short and becomes further disillusioned, yet every time he repeats this loop he finds himself unable to grasp what's already in front of him (the show actually depicts this literally and figuratively).

obviously it's a misconception because I haven't finished it, but to me so far it's pretty naive, and I feel like it panders to a college-age and older audience who are likewise disillusioned with what they've gotten out of life so far

maybe when I find the motivation to finish this all the way through I'll change my mind
If I've misinterpreted it so far, do share cause then I'd actually have a good reason to finish it

well, I never talked about the show as a whole. Only the parts that I watched and what I remember (the whole loop thing that znf mentioned).

ya, true. I was mostly talking about the previews since they showed her 'dead' but I can see them giving some random reason to her surviving (got healed in time or something). I didn't give much thought to what the purpose of the girls were in the last episode. Well, if you want to blame anyone, blame Layla. She's the leader of this whole thing.

I watched this back in October so I don't remember what specifically happens. I only wrote down what I remembered and didn't go into much details because that's all I could remember about it (ie some girl he likes, influential friend, some loop etc...).

Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru: so, I finished this. + Show Spoiler +
Even though he ended up telling Masuzu to stay with him and that they will start all over, seems like the author didn't want it to end so clear cut. I mean, he tries to make enemies from each one of the girls to draw them away from him but he fails. Tries with Himechi, only makes her more attracted to him when she realizes that she can protect him now. Tries with A-chan but accidentally signs her marriage form with his blood due to a paper cut lol. Tries with Chiwa, she ended up kissing him and he was about to 'get into it' if Masuzu didn't show up to stop them.

Based on that ending, I guess we're supposed to take away that Masuzu is winning so far but this fight isn't over at all and nothing is 100% confirmed. I mean, with something like Toradora, it was kinda obvious that Taiga won 100% especially how far they went lol but with this one, it didn't seem like that. Dunno if I think it's a good or bad ending. On the one hand, Chiwa who I was rooting for was rejected by the earlier kiss but it seems that he still has feelings for her and that ending as well etc... Anyone else thinking the same thing? Seems like this is the harem ending according to MAL. I'm really hoping for a season 2 now that the book will be out of the way. Maybe a season to develop their relationship and who knows, move away from the status quo to make things different.

Slaughter, I saw the quiz episode: + Show Spoiler +
I thought the outcome was quite interesting lol. I was hoping they'll ask more questions though. One is not enough imo and we would've seen Chiwa likely move up to first place instead of Ai-chan if that was the case On the other hand, I liked the explanations that were provided for the rating and how Ai-chan went mad, confessed to him accidentally then had to run around as usual lol.

Bigfan, you should know about the childhood friend handicap when it comes to who "wins" in a love competition. They don't win often. Which is why Nisekoi avoided that and just went a head and made everyone a childhood friend.

Edit: Oh are you at the episode where they do the compatibility quiz? One of the things I remember most about that series is that quiz rofl.

Well, + Show Spoiler +
kimikiss
had the childhood friend but she still won though I think that was an exception. ya, it's too bad though. I think they should give childhood friend a shot with the MC and not just have them fail due to being childhood friends. lol at Nisekoi's method. Brilliant

I'm at the episode where + Show Spoiler +
they wanted to go on a trip (shopping for bathing suits)
. Do you remember what this episode was? Having said that, I do feel like I've watched the compatibility test but can't remember lol.

1st Haruhi novel was solid, if a little lacking imo. It seemed so short and like it was purely a very long introduction to set up the actual story.

Edit: I knew there were multiple books but damn didn't know there were 10!.

There are 11 i think. Most of it's books are forshadowing. Don't forget there are short stories about that Tanigawa also wrote for the haruhi franchise most are quite enjoyable i guess like the "rainy days".

I like all the characters so it's hard to choose one though I'd like it if Chiwa won. I think Musuzu has some cute moments but she still feels controlling to me (a bit looser now though). Himechi's charm is in her somewhat quiet and calm nature but that's it. Her fantasies are funny to a degree. Ai-chan also has some cute moments but I still prefer Chiwa. Too bad she doesn't get as much screentime anymore :/

Ya, childhood friends winning are the exception to the rule. Normally it requires an abnormally powerful childhood friend like Sumika in order to win.

Also, Masuzu being controlling and evil are some of her good points. Her trolling the fuck out of Chiwa was great, because Chiwa is a huge, HUGE shit, and deserved every bit of it.

It's just too bad. Makes an anime predictable in those cases (and that's quite a bit lol). The controlling and trolling was a bit funny, yes, but still, Chiwa only joined the club because he was there so it was a bit disheartening to see her go along with it. If you want to look at whose shit based on that definition, then that's all of them minus Himechi who doesn't do much lol.

I wasn't really giving a definition, but every character that isn't Masuzu is shit in that anime.

But yeah, its predictable. Its because there isn't a lot of thought that actually goes into this type of stuff. If you want to know who wins, without even watching something, most of the time you just need to find out who the main girl is. And then she is gonna win. Because its uncommon for the main girl not to win. In the instances where the main girl doesn't win, its normally because no one does. And then in extremely rare instances, one of the side girls will win, but thats extremely rare. And now I just spoilered the entire genre of harem romcoms for you.

Out of curiosity, who is the anime character with the most class (say a male wearing a suit)and that can be easily recognized?

Why? I want to give cosplay a try but I want to start with something very easy to pull off. Nothing too crazy ; something that a guy with no talent like myself can do ^^
Plus, I enjoy men in suits. And since I don't get to wear them alot, that could be a great excuse ^^

I had in mind the male MC (the enforcer) in PsychoPass. Seems easy to pull off! Any other suggestions?

Just do what all the other extremely lazy cosplayers do and cosplay as L from Deathnote.

I disagree that every other character than Masuzu is shit in that anime lol but to each their own

nah, don't worry, you haven't spoiled anything for me lol. I've watched enough romcoms to see the same thing repeat over and over with the few exceptions so it's nothing new. I only wish that more anime veer away from the status quo and actually have secondary characters winning the MC's heart in the end. With that in mind, + Show Spoiler +
here's to hoping that Hinata manages to catch Naruto's heart in the end of Naruto even if it's likely that Kishi won't touch much on that subject

Nope kishi is definitely going into that direction bigfan nothing to worry. She is a more popular pair than the other one.

And add to the side character winning thing + Show Spoiler [monogatari] +
I still wishfully hope that Neko wins in the end . Not that the crab sucks. Senjougahara is amazing. Just i like the Neko to end up with arararagi more.

Telling me that it's actually good without any explanation doesn't really tell me anything lol. So far, i got unique artstyle and varied vocabulary.
I'm not really a kind of guy who cares about spoilers as i can watch shows even with massive spoilers so if you need to go to that territory, it's fine with me

What else am I supposed to say lol I already said it's a better visual experience than the shit people talk about in this thread and the monologues and the way it sounds/written is good.

If you're going to watch it, just watch it and judge it for yourself. It's not really a slice of life anyway. It's more of a drama.

agree 100% with znf. I think it's usually best to watch something for a bit since you'll likely get a different perspective than if someone told you about it in writing.

Good News: Season covered (once episode 12 is over) books 1 to 3 and there's currently 6 out.
Bad News: According to Emnjay Madhouse isn't very good at delivering season-2's in a timely manner and said we're going to have to wait like 2 years

Semi Good News: Translations on baka tsuki are making progress.

if anything, i think yui as a character serves the purpose of making both chitoge and onodera actually do something. god knows how long this would take without some pressure...
