I don't see anything excessively wrong with that - it's definitely unhealthy by normal terms but nothing so catastrophic as to classify her as insane. I may be wrong because I read it a while ago, but in shiro, her letter (to neko) states that by cordoning off parts of herself, she's sacrificing a portion of her nature to preserve the truest parts of her character. hence, the parts of her left that actually express something are still valid indicators of what her preferences are. she also states that she's liked araragi even before that spring break because he's able/willing to face his own shortcomings so brazenly, a complete opposite of the way she deals with hers. I don't see why this is an invalid expression of emotion, especially because she's writing the letter as she's coming to terms with her abnormalities. That did not only apply to food. That was the basis of her worldview. It was painstakingly established through kizu and neko shiro+kuro. She didn't say anything about preserving her own character btw, the line about about how she'd keep shedding away parts of herself until she breaks. While her letter to the cat said that if she were to put a time when she started liking him during the entire affair of Kizu and went on for a bit, that letter and her talk at the end of Bake both refer to the said love as a product of seeing him with someone else. The former referred to how he would save Kisshot and the latter about his relationship with Gahara-san. She never really focuses on Araragi as she did on what he did that she couldn't. Can't help but see that as not so much romantic as it is her longing for what she couldn't be like.

Can't help but see that as not so much romantic as it is her longing for what she couldn't be like. for accuracy: + Show Spoiler + It is because I have been turning my eyes away from inconvenient truths and cutting my heart away from myself ever since my youth. [...] I turned my back on malice and misfortune. That is not self-protection, but self-sacrifice, I think — by cutting away the inconvenient ‘me’, I was preserving myself. + Show Spoiler + In the end, I have never once told him that I love him. I simply fell in love, and became lovelorn, all by myself. To be honest, it has always felt strange to me, the way I became so fascinated by him even though I had never spoken to him before spring break, and how, even now, I am still deeply, stubbornly in love with him, but I finally understand it now. He was such a radiant figure to me, because I knew of no one else who would face his own weaknesses so directly. He was so dazzling, I would be blinded if I looked straight at him. [...] The feelings I have for him are the only things I have not cut away. Even when I became you, I still deeply loved Araragi-kun. …As he tells me, he saved the dying Shinobu-chan even as he cried in fear of death. If it had been me, I probably would have saved her with a smile. Yes, that was it. If there was one moment when I truly fell in love with him, it would be when I saw him fight Shinobu-chan to the death, even as he cried. Because I have never cried before. at first I was discussing this because I thought I remembered something wrong/interpreted it wrong, but then I got annoyed and looked it up. anyhow I guess I'll chalk this up as a difference in perspective.

It reads so much more like romantic love in English lol, even when she does call it romance from time to time in JP it always felt off.

+ Show Spoiler + Was that a wound/scar on her neck that looked like her head was separated from the body at some point? From when the two girls were in the bath. Looked like she had a faint line running through her neck.

They're all minor characters. The reunion between the sisters (again) was decent enough. But the real kicker was Kurome's bit at the end of the chapter. That was particularly well done.

Way too one-dimensional with the depravity for its own sake.

I also wondered the same though torture was the first thing that came to mind. I guess she was dead after all but something healed her back up. Maybe the first part of the first episode would be a good idea to revisit to see what she was talking to?
