Still cant believe how underhyped this series is. Seems to be the true hidden gem of 2013/14.
I dunno if it's underhyped or not but I for one am greatly enjoying the series and hope there's more seasons to come. I'm pretty excited to see the battle from the first episode of season 2
Yeah it certainly is underhyped. Probably more so overshadowed by SnK, Log Horizon, KLK, Outbreak Company. Personally I dropped Log Horizon, KLK and Outbreak Company, thought they were utter rubbish. They just seemed like a whole bunch of random scenes scrambled together by a 5 year old. And while I did enjoy the more "intelligent" fighting of Log Horizon, I didn't like the fact they just jumped straight into it and the mundane fan service.
I disagree with you. What do you mean by mundane fan service? The only episode of Magi I've watched (S2?) was the MC or what appeared to be the MC (Aladin is it?) getting thrown at the boobs of another girl. If that isn't fanserve, then I don't know what is
SnK is probably overrated, but I believe it has its own merit. I doubt its a bunch of scenes scrambled by a 5 year old. The setting is dark. The universe is interesting. I'd argue though that storytelling is lacking at some points ; things are dragged on.
KLK is enjoyable (to me at least) because of how crazy it is. I had to survive through my early disgust (I hate fanservice) before it grew on me. But I can easily understand why some people would hate it.
The insistence to tie in mmorpg mechanics while trying to generate a high fantasy world is pretty mundane fan service. I don't want to read about Minori healing the hq of a trade fair, listening to that will probably be physically painful.
Unless he means the swimsuit parts, those were some uninspiring fan service for sure.

Wat.
And what is your opinion?
Just my opinion, since I enjoy sci-fi/science (or psedu science), Psycho-pass was my show of 2013. But then again, I did not watch everything, and I assume my bias

About? If you mean my favorite 2013 shows, it's probably Monogatari s2 along with Chihayafuru s2, but there were actually quite a few other really good shows.

Well, I just thought it's funny he complains about fan service in LH when there's a lot more in Magi/Kuroko.

Also, "The second best selling manga series is Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan. Thanks to the high-quality TV anime series, it sold 15,933,801 copies." hahaha, high-QUALITY anime series indeed.
Actually I dont mind fan service, just not pointless and meaningless crushes for no apparent reason. Please refer to Episode 1 - 15minutes 25 seconds in and again at 15:53. And the moment that little squirt calls the MC her master...its unbearable really. But hey, I guess some people dig that, i can understand.

I doubt it will continue. The article implied it was boosted by the anime, and I doubt SnK will be getting more anime any time soon.

I was going to be nice and just ignore you, but did you really just point to one of the most un-arousing way of being referred to and call that fan service?
I'd prefer to make a point about how that is actually a fairly important part of her character but author sucks at writing and the whole affair as described in vol 6 was amazingly trite.

Why? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's enough material for a second season.
You think so? Maybe if they pace it like they did the first season. But the first season was a production nightmare, so if they do decide to make another season, I imagine they would actually take their time and make the process flow cohesively this time.

I would call it softcore fan service. Random girls falling in love with male characters to appease the prominently male otaku audience. Regardless of it being fanservice or not, thats debatable, but its still rubbish.
I dont mind fan service as long as it has good reasoning and backstory behind it. ie: A good story told of WHY the girl is throwing herself at him. Not just for no apparent reason just to please the audience. Random harems, high schools & mecha are a thing of the past. Anime needs to be unique and compelling and not afraid to stray away from the "safe mainstream" to get back to its glory days.

why would she be role playing? They are stuck in a game? There needs to be a darker atmosphere and people filled with fear of how they got there and why they cant get out. They just jumped straight it and scrambled scenes together and added a few rainbows.
Incomplet, are you trolling? I think you must have stalked this thread and took notes about the best methods of attack, and now are putting your master plan into motion. I have a hard time believing anyone could post what you are posting and be serious about it.

Incidentally even up to the current point of the anime, there is no real romance involved.
Reasoning is fine and all, but you are wrong from the very start. Akatsuki doesn't even come close to realizing that she has romantic affections for Shiroe for quite a bit of time. For much of the anime up to this point, she is roleplaying.

Escapism is a thing too, what's wrong with using roleplay to mitigate the gravity of the situation and make it easier on yourself by concentrating on something pointless?

It's selling so much + boosting manga sales so I doubt they care. I would expect it pretty soonish. Oh on that note, the OVA was actually pretty good. And on that note, I liked the second Gargantia OVA, even though it was way too short/fast paced. Wish it had 2-3 ep.

I disagree. It's mostly about execution, most stuff has been done before. Generic != bad. Also, what were the "glory days" according to you?

The glory days of anime was probably back in the 70s when Mazinger Z was pulling 30% ratings on TV. But I guess the glory days are a thing of the past...

Generic inherently has a negative connotation though. I agree everything is about execution but if you describe something as "generic" that probably means its execution hasn't really helped it stand out from the rest of the average crowd.
Hence why people say "oh this is another generic harem anime" or something like that.
As to the best anime of 2013 discussion, I didn't watch all that much, but overall for the type of anime that came out it was a weak year for me. Kind of wish I had picked up Monogatari S2, but honestly I liked Bakemonogatari and stuff, but it was never something I would actively pick up and follow, so maybe some time down the line.
I think if I had to compare the best anime this year (Most people would probably say Shingeki no Kyojin I'm assuming) to the best anime that most people liked in the last few years (Madoka, Steins;Gate, Fate/Zero), AoT doesn't really stand up to those three despite its popularity.
Try to remember 2 years ago how you felt after Episode 1 of SAO. Now try to look back a few months and remember how you felt after episode 1 of Log Horizon. Im sure most people would agree that most people were drawn into that darker SAO atmosphere which made them lusting for more. While admittedly SAO then took a plummet for about 6 episodes, that first impression is all so important, and was likely one of the main reasons why it was overhyped as much as it was.
Now 2 years later, LH comes along and here is what the anime fanbase was thinking. We are going to get SAO 2.0, without the fuck ups. But instead we get these mundane and pointless "roleplaying" full of childish giggles and some ridiculous Loli who refers to the MC as master. Oh how sinister.
