It's hard to believe that some people wouldn't figure out things like how to cook food properly or that buildings can be bought, but his plan so far seems to make sense. Are you referring to Susukino which is supposed to have slavery not just robbery and kidnapping like in the anime or something else?
Vol 1 stuff wasn't the things that made this episode's events nonsensical, they were the things getting thrown in your face the last 2 episodes. Zone purchase, basic explanations of zones, and some other misc stuff were all dumped at you during vol 1. The cooking method thing is kind of hard to believe in but I couldn't complain because I couldn't see it coming even after all the infodump in book. In terms of how reasonable it actually is...well, eh. Source threw out some percentage at some point of players with actual manufacturing subclasses, and it was a pretty low amount. Shock of getting dumped inside a game world. Can probably pile on a lot of excuses for it, none of them particular convincing, but enough for the reasonable doubt.
They toned down on the slavery and sexual assaults from vol 1, which didn't get any detailed descriptions anyway. I thought that was somewhat lame but understandable given that it is NHK.
No, what I was annoyed with was that they skipped all of the incentives Shiroe provided as well as ignored the part with the production guilds. So at the moment it is basically pure extortion, except they proceeded as if it wasn't and went on to have a happy meeting. The preview looks like they'll just throw in some halfassed explanation afterwards too or just assume the concept to have been demonstrated already by the food booths.
Loving how log horizon is moving. Plan is pretty smart and blackmailing them, priceless. Also, so many glasses Nice to see Tohya and Minori got out of the guild they were in. I'm interested to see what happens next. Good pacing so far. I do wonder if we'll ever see them return to the real world or if this is their new life but I can wait and see lol
hmm I was originally confused but little busters is starting to make a little more sense. It's almost like memories are forgotten or something. This last episode made things a little easier to see where things are going. I am curious to know what the secret of the world is but I'm sure I'll eventually find out. Can't wait to see all the other characters eventually joining and the reformation of little busters. Kengo crying was a bit much no? Also, seeing the fast mewball was interesting lol. Seems like Rin is remembering her recent past which is making me excited :D
So much developments in this. More confirmation that Touma likes Haruki and that he likes her. Seems like there's a lot of missed interactions between the two (ones we don't know about yet). Touma being obnoxious imo to Haruki to avoid him getting closer to her and seems like she wants him to stick with Setsuna since she seems how much she loves him. I was a bit taken back that she flew out just like that and left someone else in her place but at least, there'll be major developments to look forward to next episode. On the other side, with Touma out of the picture, Setsuna and Haruka are likely to get a bit closer but still wonder whe she told neither of them (maybe she told Setsuna) about her leaving. Still, watching the episode last night, couldn't help but get a feeling of deja-vu at one point like I've seen that part of the episode before. Wonder what direction they plan to go with this.
Coming next season, I believe. Terrible name aside, might be cool.
I can't understand Japanese, but it seems kinda like future mech bro shows up to kill John Connor (MC) and the girl in his class is Arnold? Looks pretty good to me!

hs translated it as blackmail and put that term in the subtitltes a bunch.
Yes, and HS is wrong. Blackmailing would've been something like revealing the xp pot thing, except everyone already knew so there was nothing to reveal. Extortion is the threat of harm by what Shiroe is capable of now. It ticked me off a bit when I saw a mistake in the English used rather than a mistake from translating.

I know about the HS thing, which is why I bothered to make the correction in the first place.

I reread the Round Table part a bit and Shiroe does only hint at what the production guilds get out of it during the start of the meeting. In the anime the he only says "what makes you think this info is not worth 5 million" and it's the same in the light novel where it's later revealed why the production guilds don't speak at all during the meeting. I'm confident it will be explained adequately next episode the preview just doesn't show the meeting.
Earlier in the morning, before Shiroe chaired this meeting, he invited Oceanic Systems, the Rodrick Firm, and 8th District Shopping Center, the 3 major production guilds' guild masters to come, and distributed this data to them personally.
The content of the data was simple beyond description... Crescent☪Moon's new food product did not come from a new game recipe.
Lured by the prospects of getting their hands on the game recipe, the production guilds were led on by the Crescent Moon Alliance, and each lost their 1.5 million gold investment.
But Shiroe was not sorry about this.
Shiroe retorted to the 3 unhappy guild masters, "Why do you think that this data is not worth 1.5 million gold?"
"Shiroe-dono, do you have anything more to add?"
Michitaka had already accepted all of this, as he asked Shiroe with a bitter smile and an unhappy look.
"That is right, no matter how Shiroe-senpai explains, we are still in a position akin to blackmail. And humans will lose their cool if they know they are under threat. You understand this correct?"
Am I the only one that thinks Log Horizon is pretty shitty at this point? We're 9 episodes in and we know virtually nothing. There's no plot and no discernible antagonist, just random MMORPG infodumps and people pushing up glasses.

Looks like I remembered the order of events wrong, I recalled the rescue operation as something that took place a bit further into the meeting. Though it looks like I am not too wrong here, the anime did push the rescue operation's progress up a bit relative to where the meeting was up to.
That translation is pretty sketch though lol. But yeah, anime didn't show Michikata essentially giving his blessings to Shiroe after admission of providing him the funds. In all the source makes it more obvious that the three production guilds are already on Shiroe's side at this point.
EDIT - oh right, voice only but Michitaka did say the line, or was it just my copy being weird. Still, I read the source and feel like it has made a pretty good case up to this point of support guild + Soujirou's guild as being mostly in the know for Shiroe's plans and are supportive of Shiroe. Anime just hardly felt that way.

I know some people would want something easy to point at, except that isn't what the series is about. It moves more toward that direction later, but for the moment being it is just about people getting their act together. Would you look at the first couple of days Robinson Crusoe spent on an island and ask why there is no plot and no antagonist?
The writing style is quite cheesy though, if anything so far the amount of MMORPG related cheesy writing has been reduced. Unfortunately that comes at the price of a shitton more glasses pushing.

It just bothers me that we don't have any idea how or why they're trapped in the game, and there's no tension because people can't actually die in it. It all seems so SAO-lite at this point 9 episodes in.

Having never read the LN, it seems to be going at an ok pace so far. They explained the MMORPG world(prior) well enough for someone who's never played them before but didn't go over the top. I think the first couple of episodes were a bit less organized since the story started and everyone was trying to figure out what's going on(Shiroe and his group figured it out within the first episode though lol). Now there's some direction although we don't know all the details but with the latest episode, you can see or guess what he plans to do.
edit: ya, the why we are trapped here part is confusing since I would like to know the answer as well lol. I think there might be tension but they haven't done the best job of showing it to us.

There is plenty of tension in a scenario where people can't die. Losing a meaning to live and act is a problem in itself, one that's arguably worse than just being dead.
