Plus yea the constantly working is something I would have liked to know why she apparently doesn't want to have any free time. The whole baseball thing hasn't been brought out except that she obviously puts a shit ton of effort into it and she has a successful brother who plays and she mentioned very briefly in a not so serious way that she was jealous of that. Her weird metaphors when it comes to dating don't help but it seems like she bat shit scared of romance and how she "can't see it" so she tries to ignore it? Nothing really about it being a deeper issue though. Everything seems like an excuse to throw the two main leads together. With Minori, I feel that she's meant to be that odd character. The one who's energetic, kind and amazing but that she's hiding something as well. She works a ton of jobs because this is her youth or something like that. I guess she feels that she should keep busy because she's able to and keeps her optimistic. She always gave those side answers to any problems with analogies and such. It was just 'her way'.
Yes thats fine and all, but everything they "revealed" about her beneath the surface was just slap dash and rushed. She works 10000 jobs for money for college? Ok I guess but everything else her inner logic there are a few hinges loose and it all comes down to what TanKLoveR said about secondary characters being unimportant and therefore throwing a few lines against the wall and seeing what sticks for what she is thinking.
Its fine for her to be the oddball personality, it made her charming, but take that away and you have a character who was written very poorly. Its pretty much the one thing that annoys me about Toradora, they could have brought all the characters to a close better at the end. Otherwise it was a good show.
Edit: Basically what I am saying is that the show would have been even better if the secondary characters were developed and had some type of real closure rather then taking increasingly "support the main characters at all costs" role.

I thought they did a good job early to mid show (after they clearly telegraphed that the leads would end up together) of opening up the possibilities with other possible relationships. I was just disappointed in that after a promising mid-game exploring the options and relationships everyone seemed to snap into "Oh shit its near the end of the show! Time to act like we have no agency and just SUPPPPPOOOORRRRT".
Also Fuck the male lead for making his mom feel like shit for no reason in episode 24.

Time to act like we have no agency and just SUPPPPPOOOORRRRT". Also Fuck the male lead for making his mom feel like shit for no reason in episode 24. I did tell you it gets a bit wackier in an earlier post lol. ya, they could've used another episode or two at the end but maybe they had an episode limit or something so they had to rush some things due to that. It's really not that bad imo since if you consider how things were progressing, everyone was hinting big time about it but he was oblivious so eventually, something or someone was going to break and just outright say it. + Show Spoiler +Ami during christmas party and like twenty times in the show etc... Think of it this way: he heard first hand her feelings but decided not to say anything and make it seem like someone else saved her to avoid it. If Minori didn't step in then, we could have another 25+ episodes and nothing will change except more hints being dropped. By that point, Ami has dropped way too many and we've seen how Taiga was acting around him.
I think it was one of those 'heat of the moment' moments because notice what happened right after that happened with his mom. + Show Spoiler +He hesitated then stopping himself from saying more because he became aware of what he said wrong then ran away after Taiga took his hand. I think it was built up frustration on his part from all angles. No father, pressured by mom, the emotional issues(Minori or Taiga) and just general everyday stressors, not to mention that he mostly just worked a job in place of his mom so she can rest. I guess he felt that he wasn't able to do anything without everyone concerning themselves with it, not that I subscribe to that type of thinking. .

Is my point of Ami being the only character across two series that author produced that's worth any time finally getting through?

The decision to elope was kinda out of left field it seemed to me, talk about over reactions :\ and of course everyone just goes along with it helping them (Minori giving up all her money to them? Seriously?)

BigFan said it was because they had their parents breathing down their necks and they wanted to stay together but I still thought it was a stupid thing to do. Not even a kiss or an I like you but sure let's elope.

It was like: omg, they are going to split us up, no way, not gonna let it happen so we'll hide for 2 months then get married. They are young and lack experience which is why I think that happened. Also, if you finished watching: + Show Spoiler +they actually re-thought about the plan and ended up modifying it and being mature about it. It was all in the heat of the moment like when he blasted him mom for pressuring him so much. To me, that's how I saw it so while a bit bizzare and out of place, it made sense in the context of the situation.
PS you don't need to tell someone I like you if you both already know it It was kinda obvious that they both liked each other lol plus they did plan on saying I love you and ended up kissing after the fact.

Yea I know you can blame it on age and all that.
What I was more annoyed at goes back to my earlier complaint: instead of having this convoluted run around where they leave have family reunion then come back and then she leaves again they could have instead spent that time on extending the relationships and their closure with the situation in a better way.
Edit: Now that I finished it (Lol my mortuary paper ) I liked the very end but the wacky few episodes that came right before it I didn't like. Overall it was good, but it could have wandered into great territory if they did the middle-end episodes differently imo.

hmm, maybe the author wanted to add drama or thought that eloping would be a way to close of the series later? I mean take something like Clannad. + Show Spoiler +Tomoyo confesses to Nagisa and it stops there then afterstory picks it up from there. We don't know if they will eventually get married etc... so it's unknown. With Toradora, we know that they plan to do it since it was mentioned. The timing wasn't the best and I agree, that less drama there and having those episodes for development purposes would've been wiser but how much developments can you do in an episode or two though?
If you look at it from another perspective, their family issues were all fixed by the end. It wasn't the prettiest way to do it and it definitely could've been done better but then how do you get the mom to see her parents again? Since I'm being very confusing lol, I guess what I'm saying is: I think there wasn't enough time for meaningful developments since it would feel crammed due to the fact that they seemed limited on episodes (better episode management needed?) so why not end up with some drama and confirmation of what's to come. There is no Toradora afterstory to further explore things.
yes, ending was ok. As I mentioned to TanKLoveR in one of our discussions, we both thought that just another episode where everyone welcomes her back and do some 'final' activity together would've been much better closing. The ending episodes were getting bizzare and unexpected when I watched it but cmon, that's what we watch for, right? XD

+ Show Spoiler +I'm really glad they broke Iona's monotony. She just felt way too stiff in comparison to Takao or heck, to even Haruna who was starting to display some emotions and such. O.o I have a really, really bad memory. Either that or it's over-saturated. Like I read that a month ago, and when I saw the strip you posted I remembered laughing at it >.<

Her response is a lot funnier in the manga simply because she looks like she's enjoying being the boss. It's similar to when she talks to Takao about not underestimating subs a couple pages later.
Every time Iona mentions new feelings and shit in the anime, I throw up a little.

I agree. I went anime -> manga though so it wasn't as jarring for me, but I get what you mean especially with the latest episode.

Just finished watching GTO!!!!!!!
+ Show Spoiler +Absolutely loved it, reminded me so much about my boarding school days, and just how to have a good time without any bullshit egos getting in the way. Was so, the ending was kind of abrupt and felt rushed, but still so good
ONIZUKA TOO GOOD
Any similarly awesome anime out there?

Finished watching first season of Seitokai Yakuindomo. Must admit half of my enjoyment comes from lewd Mio. Was also highly amused by talk about brooms.

XD
Mmm I guess I think they should have concentrated on the people/relationships/drama they already had going without throwing in the family drama. The whole conflict with his mother and the subsequent "resolution" wasn't needed at all. You could even have left Taiga's parental issues at the side and leave it at "they have a strained relationship". That way several episodes could have been completely different and more focused and allowed for them to shore up the drama among the circle of friends. You can't tell me that they couldn't have did what they did with Ami the last portion of the season (didn't take up much time) with Minori. I don't like it when characters that are in the "main group" get reduced to simple devices to drive whatever plot or drama they wanted next. They stretched themselves thin by adding on extra mini story lines for conflicts that no one cared about (or even knew existed until Ryuji suddenly blew up on his mother and ran away).

Don't expect things to go beyond superficial stuff developing main characters for light novels. Whenever a side character does well, consider it an accident and move on. Don't hold any hopes.

High School DxD developed its secondary characters (which there are a lot more of) better then Toradora did. Sad.

Ironically those school fighting types tend to do better simply because they are somewhat more episodic/arc based and jump from one sub to another sub. Romance tends to just all in on the main from the very start, if it doesn't become a harem then sub characters probably get zero attention.
Basically, more harem and shounen writing produces better writing than Toradora.

Personally I'm a big fan of Suzu height jokes (lewd or not).
No recap this week for monogatari, I'll hope for a Kaiki OP even though it's not likely.
